Trust 'TRST'

With nostalgia for the sake of nostalgia becoming increasingly common and oh-so irritating, I should really hate this. But I don't. All the best bits of 80s synth-pop with a splash of pure cool makes for something pretty damn good. Just don't look at that COVER.

 

I originally rejected this but an Aeroche-driven revival made me re-listen and god am I THANKFUL. Starting to make a habit out of doing that. Bad Chris.

Spirit Spine 'Atlantic Downs'

Pavel HEY. A failed UP entrant with an album full of wonders, this combined with VS//YOUTHCLUB pretty much dominated the cold, post-5pm darkness of this year's early months with their gloomy electronica and droning lyrics. The perfect mix of uplifting rhythms and self-indulgent dark plodding was pretty much exactly what i needed and man did this deliver. I think it's time for a REVIVAL.

Is this just an albums countdown? Cos I can't really comment if so sozzz!

Beach House 'Bloom'

Despite almost always giving in and turning over to Teen Dream halfway through this, it is still exactly what Beach House do best and it can't REALLY be called a disappointment. Different enough to stand on it's own but still extremely loyal to their sound. Why improve on perfection eh?

Stubborn Heart 'Stubborn Heart'

Rough trade album of the month discovery with some sexy album artwork and man am I glad I checked this out. Heartbreak emoted over dark, atmospheric beats in songs able to stand up with the most popular electronic tunes of the year mixed seamlessly with ballads packed full of emotion. A fusion of the best parts of previous albums from Perfume Genius and The Irrepressibles with tiny hints of Katy B instrumentals if you will WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE?
