December 31, 201212 yr Emmylou! My favourite BJSC discovery of the year (even though I kinda knew it before it was only through the contest I began to love it) - only gave it 10 points as well. Didn't expect to see it so high on anyone else's chart. Will always have time for it, it's so so beautiful.
December 31, 201212 yr Author Next up is my favourite BJSC discovery that wasn't sent by myself! http://seasweetie.files.wordpress.com/2010/12/free-pictures-winter-ice-crystals-yeimaya.jpg  BJSC XLIII hasn't been that well represented in this chart so far, it was generally a very weak contest, but it had its highs...and this was definitely one of them. I do of course love instrumentals and this is just perfect - The solemn strings begin before kicking and building up to a great height, before soaring over a dubstep beat...yep you heard that right. It moves along at a wonderful pace and combining a traditional folk instrument with a modern day beat is just such an innovative concept in this day and age. A great shame that this seems like yet another track in my top 10 that looks likely to fall under the radar to most. -x- The top 3 consists of one more BJSC related entry and two hits that you may hear/have heard later today if you're listening to the right radio and will almost certainly hear tonight.
December 31, 201212 yr Author http://tobysproject.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Youngpeople490.jpg    In all truth, This isn't quite as amazing as that little period I was obsessed with it had me believe, after the dreaded omen that is overplay, but it was leading my chart for most of the year, and it certainly hasn't got any worse in that time, so proudly stands in exactly the same position as it probably will be in the official chart of the year. Its rare to see a band of their ilk getting this much commercial success, but this screaming for it right from the start. The rather big mouthed lead singer has a rather odd way of singing, but its very endearing, and I think his vocals add to the songs charm. Of course, the main appeal is THAT chorus, sounding so anthemic and demanding a singalong, the subject matter is simple - that of an anthem of modern day youth, with the lyrics personifying the drunk but still 'buzzing' (adopted that word from uni, oops) teen excellently, 'the moon is on my side' & 'My friends are in the bathroom getting higher than the Empire state' a particular favourite. Even Janelle has a decent feature here, even if her feature ranks as possibly one of the most useless ever and you could be forgiven for thinking she wasn't there at all over the chants of the children. Overplayed it may be, but still very much a favourite of the year.
December 31, 201212 yr Author http://ih0.redbubble.net/image.6110677.5068/flat,550x550,075,f.jpg   And my favourite BJSC related entry is (shockingly) one of my own. A song I sent in XLIII with doubts about how successful it would be. So I was rather overjoyed ( :basil: ) when it reached the final. It remains, so far, my second best performing BJSC entry ever, finished in an AMAZING last place, I am of course sad but considering this beauty could've missed out on a placing in the final, I was a bit relieved. The band, Bastille have come on a real journey and have now entered the public conciousness, and I think I can see big things happening for them next year (Just remember that I loved this when the video was pushing 80k views [/totesindie]). I don't think subsequent releases from them were anywhere near as powerful as this. I've used the word gorgeous quite a lot in this countdown but it really is the appropriate word here. The production is the key to this being as beautiful, backed with a soft, sad rock backing with burst of electronica, the end of the song when that solo kicks in is just... The singers voice works excellently here too, providing exactly the sad, soothing voice for a track like this. Everything about this track is simply spellbinding, its just a shame they've had more success with their next singles, I can only hope that this gets a re-release at some point. So, what will be my number 1? All will be revealed soon.   Â
December 31, 201212 yr Author http://imgc.artprintimages.com/images/art-print/james-forte-rear-view-of-a-family-with-one-child-walking-on-a-beach-at-sunset_i-G-38-3869-5R8JF00Z.jpg                   Yeah I lied earlier. Coming in right at the last minute of the year, I was sceptical to put this at number 1, but I don't think any song feels more defining of the year. Swedish House Mafia have done some absolute class dance tunes over the years they've been active, of course, this was the swan song of the trio and they simply could not have gotten it any more spot on. Everything about this is so poignant - the lyrics reflecting on moving on in life and looking back on faded memories are perfect, the vocals of John Martin feel perfect for this song and are packed with emotion, but don't over emote to take away from the emotion of the track (and I found him quite annoying on Save The World) , and the instrumental (typically for them it must be said) is so strong with even the simple keyboard sounds feeling emotive and reflective. A few of these songs are very personal as they are specific to a feeling or experience from within the year - this is no exception in possibly the same way as them, It feels so reflective of a year that I feel that a lot of things have changed for me and that I really moving into the adult phase of my life. There will doubtless be more challenges (and goodbyes for that matter) that I will face in 2013, I guess this song feels so appropriate on New Years Eve just reminds me (and really the listener in general) that things move on, but not to worry. Heaven's got a plan for you...that lyric is just perfect and sums up the song and the emotions generated so well. All in all, It is the track that marks a change and I couldn't think of a better song to make my number 1 of 2012. (and yes I did begin typing this when it was playing on radio 1 in hope of posting it when it came. Unfortunately I waffle a bit too much) So, ladies & gents, that is my chart of the year completed, a full list and footnotes will follow imminently (alas I've lost my word document that its all on :drama:)

December 31, 201212 yr Considering I like most of what is in here, I need to provide you with one of these discoveries sooner or later. Crystallize is one of my favourite BJSC entries of the year too, can't believe I only gave it 4 points originally (it was a strong contest for me but still). Â Excellent #1 as well, so much love for it. Dance tune of the year. Â Overjoyed is fairly good as well, all of that contest still reminds me of my holiday in Tenerife so pretty much all the songs from there are fairly special to me.

Crystallize is one of my favourite BJSC entries of the year too, can't believe I only gave it 4 points originally (it was a strong contest for me but still).  Excellent #1 as well, so much love for it. Dance tune of the year.  Overjoyed is fairly good as well, all of that contest still reminds me of my holiday in Tenerife so pretty much all the songs from there are fairly special to me. I'm quite surprised that I've not really connected with your BJSC entries for the most part considering our tastes (and sometimes votes) are very similar, I guess I tend to lead towards the slightly more indie side of the spectrum there. I do really like Water To Ice, Love Stuck & both of your UP entries though. Thanks for keeping me company in here btw :P
January 3, 201312 yr Author I feel this may have got slightly lost in the new year's rush so I'll bump it up and see what happens :P could I please get at least one more comment
January 4, 201312 yr I feel this may have got slightly lost in the new year's rush so I'll bump it up and see what happens :P could I please get at least one more comment  Go on then. :P 1. Swedish House Mafia feat. John Martin - Don't You Worry Child I agree 100% with your commentary, you explain it brilliantly. It's rare to see a dance track where there is a genuine feel of emotion and is lyrically spot on. Hopefully 2013 will have dance tracks like this, and less of such nonsense bollocks like 'Don't Stop The Party' by Pitbull. I love dance music, but even I'm tiring of the constant "in the club, getting drunk" dance tracks that have no real meaning to them. 3. Fun. feat. Janelle Monae - We Are Young If a song can last 5 weeks (or more) at #1 in my chart then it's clearly had quite an impact. 'We Are Young' managed to succeed in getting those 5 weeks at the top and it was great to finally see this top the UK charts. The Wanted 'Chasing The Sun' really wouldn't have been a great chart topper had it got there instead, so well done UK! :D 7. Woodkid - Run Boy Run I don't think I'll ever get tired of hearing this song. I guess what I liked so much about this track is that it's so unique and different yet it manages this in a beautiful and interesting way. The bongs, the drums, the lyrics, the vocals, the instrumental climax. It appears to have taken on a life of its own on Buzzjack and all the better for it. It's ended up in most other End of Year Top 10s and it's excellent to see. 9. Underworld - Caliban's Dream Like I posted in Jester's chart, Underworld did an incredible job producing the music for the opening ceremony. Both this and 'And I Will Kiss' are outstanding pieces of music. They definitely did themselves proud with these productions. The legacy of the London Olympics shall go on for a long time. 2012 really was a brilliant year thanks to all these big events that happened. Other tracks that made my top 10 throughout the year: 16. Swedish House Mafia - Greyhound 22. Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe 28. Lana Del Rey - Born To Die 30. Alex Clare - Too Close 37. Rudimental feat. John Newman - Feel The Love 38. PSY - Gangnam Style 39. Marina & The Diamonds - Primadonna 40. Of Monsters & Men - Little Talks 41. DJ Fresh feat. Rita Ora - Hot Right Now 44. Florence & The Machine - Spectrum 45. Kelly Clarkson - What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger) 48. Little Mix - Wings 50. M83 - Midnight City 52. Loreen - Euphoria 57. Cover Drive - Twilight I hope I'm able to introduce you to a track that could be good enough to make your end of year chart for 2013. :D
