Expect A New U2 Record, Says Manager Paul McGuinness

New U2 album on the way. Bring it on boys!

Word continues to spread about a new U2 album for 2013.

U2 threw a lavis christmas party last week in Dublin for staff and the Irish Independent asked U2 manager Paul McGuinness when the band would be releasing a new album.

"2012 has been very busy. There's always activity, so certainly expect a new record," said U2's manager.

This will be the band's 13th studio album and the first since 2009's No Line On The Horizon.

U2's record label over in the UK, Mercury Records, has put the Irish supergroup in their release schedule for 2013.

Now we'll just add caution that when push comes to shove, U2 are the ones who decide when they're ready to put out a new album, not the record company, but it's looking good for next year.

The band have been working their arses off in the studio with a number of producers including Danger Mouse and Will.I.Am, resulting in material which U2 insider Gavin Friday has described as "really very, very different".

In an interview with RTE Radio One's Weekend On One program in the UK just last weekend, Gavin said: "I've heard a bit of... Danger Mouse is producing it, so it's quite different."

This backs up what Bono said earlier in the year during an interview on The Late Show on Irish TV.

"We've had the best three weeks in the studio since 1979. I think they [the other band members] are very aware that U2 have to do something very special to have a reason to exist right now," he said.

Of course, there have been loads of rumours about a new album to follow-up 2009's No Line On The Horizon. In fact, U2 have gone on record saying that they had made another record called Songs Of Ascent during the No Line On The Horizon sessions.

Also, they debuted some new songs on the U2 360 Tour including "Return of the Stingray Guitar", which was an instrumental rock track that was the opening song on the European leg in 2010 and "Glastonbury" - which they wrote shortly after the end of the 2009 U2 360 tour and planned to premiere at the Glastonbury Festival in June 2010.

KFIX Rock News: Bono Reveals Possible Title For New U2 Album

It seems as though U2 has been working on their new album for years, though their manager has said that they will release it at some point in 2013.

Now, Bono has revealed that the album has a working title, which may or may not be a joke.

In a radio interview with Irish journalist Amanda Brunker, Bono said that he and the rest of U2 have been working in the studio, and are in “fine fettle.”

Speaking about the new album, Bono revealed, “Within the band, we’ve been calling it 10 Reasons to Exist, but I will tell you, we might have six of them.”

Praising the band for their dedication to making the best music possible, Bono said, “There’s no sense of entitlement with this band. They really want to make a record and until they do…they don’t care if it take 10 years; they don’t care if never happens again.”

As for what the new music sounds like, Bono joked, “We have some tunes that you can hear through very thick walls.”

U2′s last album, No Line on the Horizon, came out in 2009.

Thursday 10 January 2013

In an interview with RTÉ 2fm's Dave Fanning, Larry Mullen revealed that U2 are hoping to "have something released by September".

Larry Mullen with RTÉ 2fm's Dave Fanning

Speaking about his band's first album since No Line on the Horizon four years ago, he said: "I'd say we will be finished by the summer - and hopefully we will have something released by September.

"Hopefully what we will be able to do is release September this year and shortly afterwards, release again. That's what we want to do.

:yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

"We are working with [producer] Brian Burton at the moment of Dangermouse, no will.i.am is not there, just Mister Mouse!

"We have been working for the last couple of years mostly in Ireland which has been great, we have been here for a long period of time. There's lots of music which is great."

Mullen also spoke about own personal projects, outside of being the drummer of one of the world's biggest bands: "I have spent 30 years sitting behind something...looking at men's arses!

"I've enjoyed it and it's been great but I looked at Bono and Edge in particular when he went to Broadway, I kind of felt you know I'm not punching high enough.

"I need to actually move out of this place and actually do other things, and have different conversations and sit at different tables, because everybody else was, except me."

Mullen also spoke to Fanning about how he embarked on an acting career. In 2011 he filmed the remake of Man on a Train alongside Donald Sutherland, which will be screened in the IFI tomorrow night, Friday, January 11.

He said: "I just took the ball and ran with it.

"I met Donald Sutherland the day before and at 6am the next morning and there we were doing it.

"Failure wasn't an option."

On working the legendary actor, Sutherland, he said: "You are standing there and this is the guy from Don't Look [Now], Klute and M*A*S*H. I just threw myself into it"

Mullen will also appear alongside Maria Doyle Kennedy in the new film A Thousand Times Good Night and he also has a wish list of directors he would like to work with: "When I see the Coen Brothers films, and I don't say this in an arrogant way, but I always think I know I could work with these guys, I know they'd get me, they do something that I really like.

"I'd love to work with Danny Boyle and I'd love to work with Quentin Tarantino but that's a pretty high aspiration but that's what I'd like to do."

Finally some new U2 music from Bono and the boys

Posted on Sunday, May 12

The drum beats in the press and the headwinds out of Dublin would lead us to believe that new U2 music might be seeing the light of day very soon.

A U2 fan has posted what he claims is material capturing the band in rehearsal for the new album they've been assembling over the last few years.

"Leaked U2 Jam Session (2010-2013)" is something you can easily put into your YouTube search engine and hear for yourself. The band have been working on this album in various locations for at least two years with a number of producers, including Danger Mouse and Will.I.Am.

Early this year, Bono revealed to Dublin radio station, Sunshine 106.8FM, the working title for what will be their 13th studio album.

“Within the band we've been calling it 10 Reasons to Exist – but I will tell you we might have at least six of them," Bono said.

The band tried out new material during their last world tour, including "Boy Falls From the Sky" that was originally done for the Spider-Man Broadway musical, and the track "North Star" that was featured in the Transformers movies.

Two other songs that are rumored to possibly be part of the new album are "Soon" and "Winter." "Winter" was featured in two movies, Brothers and Linear, while "Soon" was used as an intro to concerts in 2010.

"U2 is on the verge of irrelevancy," Bono told Fashion and Style magazine recently. "We have to do something on this next album that is very, very special in order to have a reason to exist.”

“U2 has been beating the odds of being irrelevant for close to 20 years, since Rattle and Hum, and we had to find ways to keep ourselves fresh yet loyal to our fans which we love so much. We are still hungry and not ready to give up our spot as the biggest and best band in the world because we feel like we have much to offer...we are still as cool as we were in 2004 and even 1994."

I wish they would just get on with it. I'm losing the will to live :(

U2's New Album Is 'Amazing' And 'Big' According To Daniel Lanois

The Huffington Post Canada | By Jason MacNeil

Acclaimed producer Daniel Lanois seems to be sitting out the current studio work U2 is undertaking towards their new album, but he's listened to the album and seems quite impressed.

Lanois was interviewed by Globe and Mail music journalist Brad Wheeler who tweeted some of the information gleaned from Lanois Wednesday evening.

Lanois tells me Bono dropped by his house in LA, and that the new U2 album sounds "amazing" and "big," with some Achtung Baby adventurism.

Lanois is apparently fine about not working with the band this round.

The reporter also said when asked about U2 working with Danger Mouse as producer, "Lanois smiled and said 'It'll be a character-building experiment for him.'"

There's no word when U2 will release the followup to 2009's "No Line On The Horizon."

Daniel Lanois Says Upcoming U2 Album Sounds "Amazing" and "Big"

1:35PM Saturday

June 1, 2013

Some interesting new information is emerging about U2's upcoming studio album, courtesy of the band's longtime producer, Daniel Lanois, and via Globe and Mail music reporter Brad Wheeler. In a series of Twitter messages, the journalist has been revealing some details Lanois recently shared with him about the project.

Wheeler says that Lanois, who isn't overseeing U2's next album, tells him that Bono recently visited at his home in Los Angeles and treated him to a preview of some of the new tracks. According to Brad, Lanois says the album "sounds 'amazing' and 'big,' with some Achtung Baby adventurism."

As for his feelings about not working on the record himself, Lanois tells Wheeler he didn't mind, noting, "I don't know if I'd survive the experiment."

Behind the board for this U2 album is Gnarls Barkley/Broken Bells member Danger Mouse. Lanois tells Wheeler he thinks working on the project will "be a character-building experiment for him."

Lanois also reports that Bono's voice is sounding strong and beautiful on the new material, adding, "He makes me jealous. Those barrel-chested Irish tenors."

In addition, Lanois reveals to the writer that a couple of the songs are updated versions of tracks on which he initially collaborated. The new album will be a follow-up to the band's 2009 release, No Line on the Horizon.

In other U2-related news, Bono and guitarist The Edge were on hand Wednesday for the 1,000th performance of the Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, for which they wrote the score. As fan-filmed video shows, the rockers hit the stage at New York City's Foxwoods Theatre during the curtain call and took turns talking to the cast members and the audience.

Chris Martin Working on U2 Album?

Posted by Andru Edwards

Chris Martin is rumored to be helping U2 with their new album.

The Coldplay frontman reportedly joined the Irish rockers - Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. - at Electric Lady Studios in New York City, where they have been working on their 13th album with producer Danger Mouse. According to fan site atu2.com, "Our reporter saw Coldplay's Chris Martin arrive, followed by Larry Mullen Jr. about two minutes later. Shortly after that, a van arrived with three guitars - each with a white label that said 'U2/Edge' - and our reporter actually helped bring the gear into the studio. He saw Larry and Chris Martin together in another room before heading back outside."

The site says when Chris was later approached, he denied he had been in the studio.

The singer is a good friend of Bono and a long time fan of U2, previously saying of the group, "We respect any musician, particularly ones who have kept going and not changed line-up and have always been good."

U2 Sighting In New York City Sparks Album Release Rumors

June 4, 2013 2:16 PM

U2 made waves in New York City last week after all four band members were seen at Electric Lady Studios. Sparking rumors that the band’s long awaited album will be out by the end of this year.

According to Rolling Stone, Danger Mouse, who’s previously worked with Jack White and Cee Lo Green, joined the band in the studio to finish mixing the album, which has been in the works since U2′s 2009-2011 world tour. Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was also reportedly seen at the studio, though there is no word yet whether it was for work or for play.

While no official release date has been given for the band’s upcoming release, their first since 2009′s No Line On The Horizon, bassist Adam Clayton told fansite, @U2 that they hope to put the album out by the end of this year. “September, October, November that kind of time,” he said. Clayton added that they’re working hard to make the “best” record they possible can.

“We’re working with Danger Mouse, who’s a smart guy. He’s on it; he’s excited. It’s a great team and feels very liberating at the moment – anything goes,” Clayton said in the interview. ”We have an abundance of riches, we could make three or four different records and justify that to ourselves, but to make the best record you can, you have to steer away from the ones you can make easily. We’re really trying to get into territory that we’re not comfortable in. If that makes sense.”

After hearing snippets of the new album, Bono’s pal, producer Daniel Lenois told Canadian newspaper The Globe And Mail that ”it sounded amazing.”

“Very, very big and powerful-sounding,” he told the paper. “Some of it was adventurous. There were shades of Achtung Baby.”

While in New York, U2 also took to the studio’s roof to record an acoustic video of “Sunday Bloody Sunday” for global art project Inside Out.
