December 29, 201212 yr Author I can only assure you there is plenty of Cheryl/GA to come in my songs countdown, even if not at the VERY top!
December 29, 201212 yr Author SONGS NOW. I'll go through 100-51 tonight (hopefully), and then after that it's all a bit up in the air. But let's get started: #100: One Direction – Little Things [20-15-23-24-25-27-36] The second single from the second One Direction album, ‘Little Things’ was written by Ed Sheeran and was thus a recipe for disaster. But somehow it grew on me, presumably because my inner teen girl decided I needed to be told I was fat but I’m gr8 anyway. #99: Cheryl Cole – Ghetto Baby [8-9-16-27-39-35-36] And now our first and (I think?) last Cheryl album track, it’s the Lana Del Rey-penned ‘Ghetto Baby’. It’s brash and loud and exactly the sort of stuff that Lana should have put on Born To Die. As disappointed as I am that Lana insists on shying away from uptempo material, it's nice to see it come out in some form and Cheryl does a fine job of it. #98: Rita Ora – Radioactive [1-2-1] (still charting) Rita Ora is the single worst new artist of 2012. But she also made a 10/10 song. Very odd woman. #97: Shy’m – Elle [11-13-19-25-30-33-40-39] I feel a bit ridiculous putting this so low after going on and on about it in my Caméléon comment, but album tracks generally suffer on my chart due to having very little exposure beyond listening to the album. ‘Elle’ also suffered due to me not being THAT obsessed with Shy’m at the time I first heard the album. 11/10 song though, and a huge smash in waiting if it’s chosen to be a single. #96: Lazy Rich & Hirshee - Damage Control (ft. Amba Shepherd) [17-17-13-19-26-34] The first properly random song in here, ‘Damage Control’ was a random dancey song that I discovered sometime before I entered Charli XCX to BJSC. I haven’t heard this in an age but I may re-listen because I seem to remember it being fab. If you’re reading this Thermo, check this out! #95: Carly Rae Jepsen – This Kiss [13-11-12-20-30-39] Carly Rae Jepsen’s iconic flop single, ‘This Kiss’ was hugely underrated. It charted for me when released as a promo single before the album, but unfortunately its bombing upon release meant I never really felt like re-charting it. Carly is still to come with at least ‘Good Time’, have no idea if ‘Call Me Maybe’ is here. #94: Ivi Adamou – La La Love [30-28-20-13-14-23-38] The first of quite a few Eurovision songs to come here, Ivi Adamou’s ‘La La Love’ was quite fun for a few weeks. Now I find it difficult to listen to but alas, point systems care not. #93: Ellie Goulding – Bittersweet [4-6-14-23-35] Ellie’s Skrillex collab is her first song here. Released as a track on the Twilight soundtrack (iirc), I only listened to it a few times for the first couple of weeks and then never again. It was really rather good though. #92: Ellie Goulding – Ritual [2-10-19-22-30-39] Another album track that’s far better than its position here would suggest, ‘Ritual’ is a proper 11/10 moment. I find it hard to believe it wasn’t considered good enough to be a proper album track on Halcyon, so I can only assume Ellie didn’t think it fit in with the rest of the songs (which admittedly it doesn’t, lyrically at least). #91: Rona Nishliu – Suus [15-12-12-20-26-37] The second Eurovision song, and one I’m sure any audience out there is happy to see. ‘Suus’ is insane, but the performance in the semis was just a showstopper and while the final performance didn’t have quite as much impact, the studio is more than good enough to give this some longevity for me. Very good, doubt Albania will deliver anything anywhere near as good as this any time soon. Edited December 29, 201212 yr by Umi
December 29, 201212 yr Woo 1D just sneaking in. But below Rita (and one of her weaker efforts at that)? http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_me0p53rlKe1r0je5p.gif
December 29, 201212 yr Author #90: Girls Aloud – Beautiful Cause You Love Me [14-9-11-18-28] (still charting) I really don’t like this song very much, I thought it OK on first listen and the video is pretty and well that’s about it. ‘On The Metro’ should have been single #2. #89: David Guetta – She Wolf (Falling To Pieces) [feat. Sia] [5-9-16-28-27-36] Released in a low sales period, ‘She Wolf’ was a top 5 hit despite not really being all that. My relationship with it deteriorated rapidly when my sister decided she wanted to hear nothing but this and Taylor Swift’s ‘We Are etc’ for days on end and it’s now borderline unlistenable. #88: Bertine Zetlitz – Electric Feet (feat. Samsaya) [5-9-17-30-29-34-38] My first ever 12 pointer in BJSC, ‘Electric Feet’ had a criminal chart run due to me not downloading mp3 packs at the time. It’s still one of my fave entries of the year, but the point system was unfortunately not kind to it. #87: Lana Del Rey – Cola [5-5-12-22-33] Another random album track, ‘Cola’ is the second single from the Paradise EP but nothing has really happened with that so for now it’s stuck with this somewhat shoddy chart run. Next year things should improve massively though, when the video is inevitably incred it will spike back up. #86: The Storm – Raver [19-23-30-28-32-34-23-27-30-37-40] Another example of the points system screwing me over royally, ‘Raver’ should be much, much higher than this. John’s very best entry of the year (and it had a lot of competition!), I still listen to it so much and it’s as good as it ever was. Should have won its month. #85: Lykke Li – I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix) [7-10-15-22-28-36-40] I have no idea how old this song is, but I know I was insanely late when I charted it back in October or whatever. But it’s not my fault – Irish radio started bumming this like there was no tomorrow and I couldn’t not chart it. Amazing song. #84: TAL – Le sens de la vie [11-14-13-18-24-36] TAL’s breakout single and best song, this was treated rather harshly on my chart. The song is just adorable really, her vocal which is so often as plain as it gets really suits the song, and the video really helps matters too. TAL hasn’t released anywhere near as good as this yet (though she’s still to come with another song but shush) but I have faith she will grow into something brilliant over time. #83: Katy B – Got Paid [2-4-10-13] (still charting) Katy B’s comeback EP thingy this year was rather good, but this track stands head and shoulders above the rest. Not sure how an album of this sort of stuff will stand up to her wonderful début but as of right now, I’m happy. #82: Roses Gabor – Stars [10-10-15-20-24-32] (still charting) A random song Bré forced on me recently, ‘Stars’ is really rather fabulous. Not sure what can really be said about it but that chorus is just heavenly. #81: Tone Damli – Imagine (feat. Eric Saade) [7-14-23-30-x(4)-21-30-34-36-39] A duet between a random Scandinavian woman and Eric Saade always sounded like a recipe for success, and it was. ‘Imagine’ got quite boring quite soon (until the video release caused it to re-enter, that is) but it’s still rather good.
December 29, 201212 yr Author #80: Girls’ Generation – Flower Power [25-18-23-17-17-21-30] The follow up to SNSD’s smash ‘Paparazzi’ (still to come) was highly anticipated by me, but unfortunately didn’t quite live up to the expectations. It’s still a fine song, but it’s too disjointed and the chorus is far too.. shouty for my liking. Never need to hear 9 women shouting about butterflies and spiders again. The album is pretty gr8 though. #79: Trentemøller / Ane Trolle – Moan [12-11-12-17-26-32-39] The first of many Aeroche BJSC wins, ‘Moan’ is possibly my favourite. So good that I even got over it narrowly beating Charli to the post (and I suppose at least it blocked the at the time horrendous ‘Bomb’), I do believe it’s my favourite winner of the year. #78: Unicorn Kid – Need U [13-15-13-17-21-31-38] This is Leww’s second winner to appear here (unfortunately also the last – Trust finished the year 137th). ‘Need U’ isn’t quite as good as ‘Moan’ but I wasn’t complaining when it won (a bit of NOT AGAIN moaning aside!). Not that I wasn’t happy when Alpines flopped (but they were shite). #77: Icona Pop – I Love It [8-11-15-16-27-32-38] More BJSC entries here (it’s a recurring theme), and now we have one of the most controversial entries of the year. Ramrynia have been at the centre of many a cheapness scandal but none worse than this. ‘I Love It’ passing the veto caused arguments so large they shook BJSC to its very core and threatened to tear BuzzJack apart. But then we all decided it was rather good anyway and it came 3rd. Hurrah. #76: pennybirdrabbit – treehouse [6-11-16-24-22-28-39] Another random BJSC potensh of mine appears now – ‘treehouse’ was discovered in my trawls during the month I sent FAYE and she bombed horribly. In retrospect I probably should have sent this, it’s vaguely similar to that Saint Lou Lou thing which did OK, but alas. #75: Khia – Pay Yo Pussy Bill [20-16-15-14-19-27-34] I had completely forgotten I loved this song! It’s actually such a jam, Khia never fails to deliver. I wish she’d score another hit, the world needs to hear her music. #74: Amelia Lily – You Bring Me Joy [29-23-26-17-15-19-29-36-35-37] Much like ‘Raver’, the chart run of this makes it look like it should have charted much higher. But unlike ‘Raver’, I don’t regret how low this is. I never listen to it these days, and ‘Shut Up’ is really much better. Not that that’s charting any better than this, but it’s not my fault Amelia has such drawn out releases. #73: T-ara – Sexy Love [6-8-13-16-26-32-39] The first of two T-ara songs to appear here, ‘Sexy Love’ was unsurprisingly introduced to me by Oricon. After dismissing it as trash on first listen, it somehow grew on me and got a vaguely impressive chart run. Still not a fan of T-ara, they appear to be rather EVIL and one of them has horrid green hair in the video for this, but they know how to make a good song. #72: Valentina Monetta – The Social Network Song [14-14-16-13-17-27-36] There is nothing in life better than a song that is so terrible it’s amazing. ‘The Social Network Song’ was the best of its genre in 2012. Needless to say, it should have performed miles better in Eurovision, but I think the fact that Val gave a competent performance really worked against her. #71: C2C – Down The Road [7-13-19-19-23-26-27] (still charting) I only checked C2C out because of their rather kwl album cover, but this single is excellent. This was a #1 smash in France this year, and I think it has potential to be a huge worldwide hit in 2013.
December 29, 201212 yr #98: Rita Ora – Radioactive [1-2-1] (still charting) Rita Ora is the single worst new artist of 2012. But she also made a 10/10 song. Very odd woman. Nope. R.I.P. is a 10/10 song. Radioactive is a 3/10 song. :kink: http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_me0p53rlKe1r0je5p.gif :cheer: Edited December 29, 201212 yr by ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★
December 29, 201212 yr #76: pennybirdrabbit – treehouse [6-11-16-24-22-28-39] Another random BJSC potensh of mine appears now – ‘treehouse’ was discovered in my trawls during the month I sent FAYE and she bombed horribly. In retrospect I probably should have sent this, it’s vaguely similar to that Saint Lou Lou thing which did OK, but alas. Didn't I randomly champion this quite a bit? Should've listened to Jáhq. Weeping for the likes of Amelia & Val going out so soon. And "Beautiful Cause You Love Me" >>>>> "Something New"
December 29, 201212 yr Author #70: T-ara – I Go Crazy Because of You [9-7-10-14-11] (still charting) T-ara’s second (and so far, biggest) Umiirukan hit bows out now, unfortunately. This is a really good song, and I hope I give it a properly long chart run. It has everything I love in a K-Pop song - it's bizarre, it's aggressive, and the production (especially on the vocals) is fabulous. #69: Christina Aguilera – Your Body [16-7-10-15-21-29-35] The international smash comeback that never was, ‘Your Body’ took off in precisely one country (that being the rather no1curr place that is Canada). It was far bigger on BuzzJack, and I imagine compared to most charts here, #7 is a fairly modest peak. It’s an excellent song, but I think her vocals were just that bit too grating for the general public to really latch onto it. #68: One Direction – Live While We’re Young [6-9-14-19-19-26-39] Somewhat more instant than ‘Little Things’, ‘Live While We’re Young’ also wore off faster. It’s no surprise it was so instant when it’s a template they now threaten to run into the ground, but it’s as good as any other song they’ve made in this vein. I was surprised with how this performed, but I suppose it’s good that the public let them know they can’t get by with the same formula forever. #67: Baron Von Luxxury – That Disco Beat (feat. Little Boots) [7-12-13-18-22-28-34-39] My first BJSC entry and a massive flop, I first heard this song about a year before I sent it to the contest when it leaked online. It was soon taken down by the Baron’s surprisingly aggressive management, but officially premiered a few months before the BJSC contest in which I sent it. The chart run here is much worse than I’d have liked, but had I had a chart when it premiered it would surely have been a huge #1. One of the best of my own entries, only Charli XCX and Shy’m beat it. Random note: every BJSC entry of mine made the YE top 100 with the exception of Aubrey O' Day, who finished in a horrendous 151st. #66: Florrie – To The End [10-11-12-15-23-30-34-37] John’s second and final entry here, ‘To The End’ is one of Florrie’s best songs. Tirren described the chorus as a “pop rocket” once and I must say I agree, 5th place was a criminal result for this. Especially as this was the contest where Woodkid won. And that song is so old. #65: Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe [16-18-23-14-15-21-30-40-37-40] Despite my chart starting at a time when this already felt a tad old, ‘Call Me Maybe’ managed a very respectable chart run and now a very respectable YE position. This song is of course rather iconic, and a deserving huge smash for her. Just a pity the album didn’t do the same. #64: Rebecca Stella – Give Me That O [25-20-17-10-9-17-30-40] Daehun’s desperate grab for BJSC success ‘Give Me That O’ went down very well in Umiiruka, receiving our 10 points and becoming the biggest hit of the contest on my chart (in comparison, our 12 pointer peaked at #35). Obviously as you can see from the chart run, the song didn’t hold up particularly well in the longrun. But if I ever listen to it again, I assume I will still think it’s a jam. #63: Urban Cone – Kings & Queens [4-11-11-14-19-27-37] Another song that didn’t hold up particularly well in the longrun, Urban Cone’s ‘Kings & Queens’ was on first listen INCRED and is by now virtually unlistenable. Still, the best Bignian entry by a long way. #62: Nicki Minaj – Pound The Alarm [4-16-21-32-35-x(4)-29-26-25-31-33-34] The only Nicki song to appear in what was a rather awful year for her, ‘Pound The Alarm’ charted for me upon the album release, and as you can see was just a bit frontloaded. It being released as a single saved it for a while but it never truly took off, unfortunately. #61: Jolie Cherie – Insomnie [9-9-12-18-18-23-32] Another random BJSC potensh, I was considering this for January but I do believe it’s out of the running now. Still a lovely song, discovered when looking at related artists to Trust on last.fm!
December 29, 201212 yr #63: Urban Cone – Kings & Queens [4-11-11-14-19-27-37] Another song that didn’t hold up particularly well in the longrun, Urban Cone’s ‘Kings & Queens’ was on first listen INCRED and is by now virtually unlistenable. Still, the best Bignian entry by a long way. I really don't know how to take this. But it's a honour to beat out so many greats (by that I mean Florrie). What an amazing section. Quite a fitting song for #69.
December 29, 201212 yr #65: Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe [16-18-23-14-15-21-30-40-37-40] Despite my chart starting at a time when this already felt a tad old, ‘Call Me Maybe’ managed a very respectable chart run and now a very respectable YE position. Just a pity the album didn’t do the same. http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lnytxxQ4Uu1qfo135.gif :( #62: Nicki Minaj – Pound The Alarm [4-16-21-32-35-x(4)-29-26-25-31-33-34] The only Nicki song to appear in what was a rather awful year for her, ‘Pound The Alarm’ charted for me upon the album release, and as you can see was just a bit frontloaded. December 29, 201212 yr Author #60: Rustie – After Light (feat. AlunaGeorge) [2-6-8-14-20-30-37] A song that got much higher than it deserved during a low sales period, I do nonetheless still really like this. Was going to send this to BJSC and smash all over the shop but then Radio 1 had to be annoying and playlist it. #59: Little Dragon – Sunshine [14-10-8-11-18-20-24-30] And yet another BJSC potensh of mine, I do believe this is from the month I sent MS MR. In retrospect this isn’t really AMAZING, but it is still quite lovely song and I think Little Dragon have loads of potential. Their singer is very pretty, too. #58: Kyary Pamyu Pamyu – CANDY CANDY [4-6-7-11-20-29-36] The first of three Kyary songs on this countdown, ‘CANDY CANDY’ is a wonderful song. Elevated (as always with Kyary) by its incredible video, ‘CANDY CANDY’ is as sugary as its title suggests. Everyone should love Kyary, she is the definition of an 11/10 artist (when using Yu’s ranking system). #57: Selah Sue – Fade Away [11-5-10-13-18-24-32-39] The début American single by Belgian singer Selah Sue did absolutely nothing in America, but I was a huge fan of it. It’s not exactly my type of music but ‘Fade Away’ sounds like a very good Amy Winehouse song (well, kinda) and therefore did quite well on my chart. #56: Lana Del Rey – Ghetto Baby (Demo) [2-4-9-11-20-27-37] Lana’s demo of this leaked a while after Cheryl’s version came out, and while it is of course a demo, it’s just as good as the original. It seems a bit faster and Lana’s vocal is difficult to beat, hence the chart run. Of course with this not being a single or anything, it was destined to fall down my chart swiftly, but it’s still a very good song. #55: Paloma Faith – Picking Up The Pieces [13-19-28-26-28-33-35-26-21-20-28-37] The lead single to Paloma’s second album was of course, lovely, and that’s reflected in this chart run. In retrospect it probably should have gotten a better peak than #13 but the longevity makes up for it. It’s by far her best performing single here, as while all the other singles from the album have charted for me, none have done particularly well bar this. #54: Elen Levon – Dancing To The Same Song [7-9-11-17-18-24-29-33-40] Another Ramrynia BJSC entry here, and one that outperformed ‘I Love It’ both in my chart and in the contest. ‘DTTSS’ was as instant as it gets, and is still perfectly listenable. Had I bothered watching a video or anything, I’m sure it would have had much better longevity. #53: Oceana – Endless Summer [6-6-9-13-15-23-34] This time it’s a Batidas entry, and also the theme song of Euro 2012! I was surprised at this song being let in considering how much exposure it got, but I suppose as a forum we’re not particularly inclined to be watching a football tournament. In any case, this song is wonderful and was a deserving European hit. It’s just a pity it never crossed over to the UK. #52: Dasha Luks – Diskoteka [23-20-25-25-25-28-23-28-36-x(4)-18-25-34] (still charting) Third BJSC entry in a row (yes I do love charting BJSC entries) and this time we go to Eledan. This is possibly my personal favourite entry of theirs (though ‘play’ is still to come) and has had a rather immense chart run, but its peak it quite ridiculous for a song I love so much. #51: Wild At Heart – Darling [12-11-11-10-15-22-30-35] Yet another BJSC entry and this time from the lovely Tinnmark, ‘Darling’ was my 12 pointer and I certainly don’t regret it. For a male vocal to get my 12 is very rare, but this is a beautiful song and totally deserving.
December 29, 201212 yr Author I really don't know how to take this. But it's a honour to beat out so many greats (by that I mean Florrie). Basically, I still think it's really good, but 'cute' songs (especially ones with male vocals!) very rarely have any longevity with me! And with that last result I'm finished for the night, see y'all again for 50-21 on Monday and 20-1 on Tuesday! :D
December 29, 201212 yr #67: Baron Von Luxxury – That Disco Beat (feat. One of the best of my own entries, only Charli XCX and Shy’m beat it. Random note: every BJSC entry of mine made the YE top 100 with the exception of Aubrey O' Day, who finished in a What an amazingly underrated song. Still the best of your entries as far as I'm concerned so good to see it high up enough. A lot of rather excellent stuff so far, Darling is also rather wonderful (it did hit me eventually). Poor unloved Aubrey O'Day
December 29, 201212 yr #90: Girls Aloud – Beautiful Cause You Love Me [14-9-11-18-28] (still charting) I really don’t like this song very much, I thought it OK on first listen and the video is pretty and well that’s about it. ‘On The Metro’ should have been single #2. http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lwhm8yLCac1qc0snu.gif #75: Khia – Pay Yo Pussy Bill [20-16-15-14-19-27-34] I had completely forgotten I loved this song! It’s actually such a jam, Khia never fails to deliver. Sia] [5-9-16-28-27-36] #87: Lana Del Rey – Cola [5-5-12-22-33] #74: Amelia Lily – You Bring Me Joy [29-23-26-17-15-19-29-36-35-37] #69: Christina Aguilera – Your Body [16-7-10-15-21-29-35] #68: One Direction – Live While We’re Young [6-9-14-19-19-26-39] #65: Carly Rae Jepsen – Call Me Maybe [16-18-23-14-15-21-30-40-37-40] #62: Nicki Minaj – Pound The Alarm [4-16-21-32-35-x(4)-29-26-25-31-33-34] #56: Lana Del Rey – Ghetto Baby (Demo) [2-4-9-11-20-27-37] #55: Paloma Faith – Picking Up The Pieces [13-19-28-26-28-33-35-26-21-20-28-37] As per usual I'm being ignorant (having only heard the above songs), but I approve of these chart friendly choices! :D
December 29, 201212 yr You better keep your promise and give T-ara's song a good chart run. :D Kyarypamyupamyu IS 11/10 (and when I say that, it's using everyone else's ranking system instead).
December 31, 201212 yr Author 50-21 now let's do this thing. #50: Lana Del Rey – Summertime Sadness [10-8-8-12-17-25-31-33-40] Quelle surprise, Lana has popped up again. She still has three songs left, but this song impacted my chart during the summer due to its stunning video. This really should have been a UK single, seeing as it outdid ‘National Anthem’ most everywhere, but as long as it gets a video I don’t really mind. #49: Foxes – Echo [8-4-6-9-17-24-33-40] Another of my BJSC entries, ‘Echo’ is my least favourite of them and I was quite pissed after my supercheap vaguely good song failed to ignite. Still don’t quite understand what happened there, but it certainly thought me my lesson with not sending my favourite song of the month. #48: Mylène Farmer – Oui Mais... Non [8-8-13-16-22-21-26-33-35-40] (still charting) One of a few non-2012 singles to pop up here, Mylène Farmer’s ‘Oui Mais... Non’ was released in 2010. However, I only just discovered it this year on a whim. Since then, I’ve fallen quite in love with the woman behind it, and she has a further entry to come. #47: Marina & The Diamonds – Power & Control [21-16-18-17-21-28-28-29-28-33-31-35-40] ‘Power & Control’, the """second""" single released from Marina’s sophomore effort Electra Heart, was a massive flop for everyone’s favourite simultaneous hipster/sell out. Personally I think this is actually a very good song, but it grew just that bit too slowly to ever really take off, not only in my chart but in those """real world""" charts we talk about so much. #46: Professor Green – Remedy (feat. Ruth Anne) [20-15-12-9-11-15-22-36] The third single from Professor Green’s second album was comfortably the best, ‘Remedy’ ranks among his best songs (though I don’t feel it quite surpasses the fabulous ‘Just Be Good To Green’). This song should have been much bigger than it was, I can never understand why Professor Green does so badly in comparison to say, Tinie Tempah. #45: Kyary Pamyu Pamyu – PONPONPON [8-13-7-12-16-21-27-34-40] Kyary’s second last song bows out now. ‘PONPONPON’ was a viral internet hit due to its incredible video, and was sent to BJSC by Oricon this year. Unsurprisingly, I discovered it due to this, and instantly fell in love with Kyary. If you haven’t watched the video for this, watch it now! #44: PSY – Gangnam Style [3-3-7-11-15-23-29-38] PSY’s international megahit was brought to me by... well, you know who. The song had a surprisingly short run on my chart but I still think the song is good, and the video if of course still amazing. #43: Eleftheria Eleftheriou – Aphrodisiac [18-15-3-5-10-15-26-35] The Greek Eurovision entry of 2012 and the first of theirs to interest me since 2008, I have an unhealthy love for Helena rip offs. ‘Aphrodisiac’ is no ‘My Number One’ or ‘My Secret Combination’ but it was still very good, I felt so bad for Eleftheria when I found out she was a laughing stock in Greece for flopping. #42: Nordpolen – När mitt blod pumpar i dig [9-5-7-11-18-23-29-26-37] Espen’s entry to BJSC 48, Nordpolen’s ‘När mitt blod pumpar i dig’ was by far Espen’s best entry of the year. Robbed of victory, it came home in a mere 6th place. However, I like to think it’s one of the best remembered entries of the month. Probably my favourite ‘indie’ entry of the year. #41: will.i.am – Scream & Shout (feat. Britney Spears) [5-2-4-7-7-9] (still charting) If this were a Nicki Minaj song, I’d be ripping her to shreds for making it. As this is Britney, I’ve long since given up on her having artistic involvement. So why bother criticising. Amaze song even if it is artistically bankrupt.
December 31, 201212 yr Author #40: Rihanna – Where Have You Been [10-4-6-5-11-14-26-38] The only Rihanna song in the countdown, the 4th single from her 25th album is by far her biggest hit in Umiiruka. Reaching #4 but with only minor longevity, I do nonetheless still really like the song. The video is among her best, and this should have been a bigger hit. #39: Cheryl Cole – Under The Sun [5-4-6-10-13-18-21-35] The second single from Cheryl’s third album, ‘Under The Sun’ was a disappointing single choice to me. It wasn’t an immediate album favourite and didn’t last all that long in my affections upon single release. Still, for a good while, I really liked it, and therefore it scrapes into the top 40 here. #38: Shy’m – Et Si [1-3-6-8-8-1] (still charting) The third single from Caméléon, ‘Et Si’ was not a favourite upon album release. However, the single version is a huge improvement on said album version and comes with an excellent video (as with the other singles from this album). Not as good as either of the two remaining Shy’m singles, but still very good. #37: Faye – Come To Me [10-6-12-12-12-14-19-28-36] My own entry for BJSC 48, ‘Come To Me’ is one of my less loved entries. And also my very biggest flop! I still do think the song is rather great, don’t know what is wrong with you lot. #36: Parralox – Sharper Than A Knife (Pete Hammond Remix) [4-2-4-8-15-18-23-32-40] My single greatest regret in life is not entering this to BJSC 49. Sigh. #35: Nelly Furtado – Big Hoops (Bigger The Better) [8-6-4-7-8-17-20-31] Most undeserving flop of the year, I reckon had this been Nelly’s comeback single in say, 2009, it would have smashed. But alas, in 2012, nobody was here for this barring a few internet gays. And Bré. #34: KARA – Pandora [3-5-5-7-9-15-22-34] The 4th highest K-Pop song on this countdown, KARA’s ‘Pandora’ made them the first Korean group to have two chart hits (previous single ‘Speed Up’ hit #21). Accompanied by a fabulous video and excellently produced, ‘Pandora’ is entirely deserving of its place here. Goo Hara is so fabulous. #33: Electrovamp – I Don’t Like The Vibe In The VIP [14-5-5-6-8-14-20-28-35-38] A Skall BJSC entry, this song is ancient but only came to my attention then. It’s amazing, don’t know what is wrong with pop voters who don’t recognise this as a jam. #32: Marina & The Diamonds – How To Be A Heartbreaker [3-6-10-10-16-22-31-37-34-x(2)-19-27-39] The third single from Marina’s sophomore, this song didn’t last overly long in my affections after initially being massive. However, the ‘AT LEAST I THINK I DO’ bit in the post-chorus is incred and the video has grown on me loads. For some reason. #31: Little Boots – Every Night I Say A Prayer [1-3-9-10-13-19-19-25-32-37] I do believe this is the lowest #1 in this countdown, and also the shortest running in my top 40 (spending a mere 10 weeks on chart). A frontloaded stanbase #1 perhaps, but a decent song. Boots is still to come with the far superior Boots single of 2012, however.
December 31, 201212 yr So much of "what is wrong with us, what is wrong with us people and what is wrong with that". Nothing is wrong with us at all! HA at your least favourite songs in BJSC being your flops entry wise. Should just send French pop each time to impress instead of random indie nonsense. :D
