Portugal has pulled out of the Eurovision Song Contest, blaming the economic crisis.

It follows Poland’s decision last week not to take part again.

Both countries said the financial situation meant they could not afford to join in next year’s event in Malmo, Sweden.

Portugal had sent everything there, good songs bad songs amazing ones and tried even with rubbish ones because other countries have won with those, and Portugal never won so why wasting money on this? Why insisting? It was a good decision, Eurovision is a fake, should be called EastEurovision instead.

Those countries are east or north east from Portugal Spain France Uk Ireland, sorry if you don't know geography. Portugal did and sent shit? Yes but not always, and it isn't with shit that countries win the contest? Of course it is.

What you know about Portugal entries? nothing, because you seem to be a newbie on this matter, you follow the sheeple so you listen to what the sheeple listen.

Uh oh. Shit gon' go down.

Oh, only countries to the east of the most WESTERN country in Europe won Eurovision therefore it MUST be biased towards the east? :manson: FANTASTIC logic there.

And taste is subjective, so if you honestly think that 'shit' is what wins the contest then fair play, but you'd have to be pretty closed minded to dislike EVERY winner. Really I find it difficult to see anything in any of the pretty much run-of-the-mill Portuguese entries that would qualify any of them as deserving winners.

And I seem to be a newbie on the matter because I think your country mainly produces TOTAL CRAP when it comes to this contest? NAH, sorry mate. I've got every Eurovision song ever recorded on my hard drive. SADLY that includes the Portuguese entries, only a few of which I've got any time for. Good riddance.

"Portugal has given more points to the UK over the years than any other country. So, next year we’ll be “douze points” down. And seeing as we finished in 25th place this year with, um, twelve points, that’s pretty worrying." Ahahah

...of which none came from Portugal...

...and never will from now.

Portugal's failure hasn't exactly started recently though has it? They've only sent one entry that I can genuinely say I liked, and that was their 2008 entry. Pretty sure that did ok as well didn't it? One of the most forgettable Eurovision countries unfortunately, and they won't be missed by many.

Yeah it's really annoying when a country never sung in English so it can be a forgettable one, the ones who sing in English are the best and can't be missed.

Portugal failure started when joined in this contest.

Yeah, it's the LANGUAGE that explains why Portuguese entries are forgettable. Nothing to do with most of them being MoR as hell of course.
Neither Portugal or Poland are a real loss. Their entries are usually OK at best (Vidha Minha was quite good though), although I loved Jestem and For Life from Poland.

I love how this nutcase is taking Tirren on.

GOOD LUCK SON

Actual LMAO.

To be fair, Portugal sent a few amazing songs. There was nothing that made them stand out VISUALLY though. Plus there's got to be that OOMPH stage factor which Senhora Do Mar, serving as the example of the latest amazing Portuguese entry, lacked.

Yeap, an I have seen really worse passing through finals and even winning the contest, amazing.

I thought 2009 was quite nice visually (but then everything was on that stage). My favourite Portuguese entry as well.

Neither Poland or Portugal have had songs that i can say i have loved. But its understandable they are leaving, but who knows they may return someday again.Portugal especially have a very deep financial crisis so its totally understandable they dont have the money. Also Portugal have been in the contest for years and have never came close to winning olet alone win so thats frustrating too im sure.

Somehow and i hope im wrong i dont think these will be the only ones to withdraw in coming years and all mainly down to the economic crisis some countries are experiencing, i do hope Ireland never withdraww, i know financially the country is screwed but i i think us irish are very proud of eurovision so hopefully that dreaded withdraw never comes.
