May 18, 201312 yr I just can't believe Ireland came last... I don't really know what kind of song we should send next year. Should it be like a simple catchy pop song with an infectious melody? Or some kind of electronic ballad? Or maybe something really unique like what Albania (I think it was them) sent last year with the woman singing "SHAAAAI!" :P That was so weird and yet ended up doing well, I think it came fourth or fifth or something. It had a certain charm. Edited May 18, 201312 yr by Mattias

It had a certain charm. To be honest I think we should just throw it all out there and go heavy metal for next year. Seriously though I do think we should try to broaden our horizons genre wise. Some kind of electropop or even some kind of song like Malta's Tomorrow would be interesting. We should probably send a female soloist next year.
May 18, 201312 yr Author I was quite surprised it qualified in the first place, and it was one of my least favourites in the final. His vocals constantly sounded quite strained and it does sort of sounds like 2 songs combined into one. I'm glad Ireland qualified though and I think that should be seen as a success!
May 18, 201312 yr RTÉ need to just spend a bit of money. They make money by airing Eurovision so it's at least worth the investment. Didn't we have like PROPER Eurosong selections in the 90s? A different era, I know, but when we put the effort in we usually do rather well.
May 19, 201312 yr This was the song I most enjoyed last night. Great looking guy, cracking voice, catchy tune. Should have worked and I still can't work out why it didn't. Such a shame as it's a great song. Well worth the purchase!!
May 20, 201312 yr His drummer/dancers were fitter. I hope you're not talking about that thing (was it with HORNS or some shit?!) but yeah the dancers were FAB *.*
May 20, 201312 yr Reminding me of 2009. The entire bottom 2 performed last and it didn't even matter.
May 20, 201312 yr The begrudgers are out in their DROVES. "It's all political anyway!!!!!!!!! Pull out now it costs too much!! farce!!!!!" I heard on the news this morning that apparently Linda Martin is SHOCKED/HORRIFIED/DISGUSTED with Petra calling her a drag queen.
May 20, 201312 yr http://www.independent.ie/irish-news/past-...e-29279420.html "Ms Martin was unavailable for comment." It was one of the best jokes of the night. Even if she WAS offended, she should GET A GRIP.
May 20, 201312 yr Indeed! She also needs to be taken off the Irish delegation. Need some nu blood in here. RTÉ got huge ratings for Saturday night. Well over 1m tuned in! Thankfully this means that we won't get any ideas of pulling out. It's funny how like the UK we are now. Our broadcaster basically ignores the abundance of talent out there. We should send Heathers, LeGalaxie or some other act that's young and GOOD.
May 20, 201312 yr Omfg, just going through the old national finals we had in the 90s and early 00s and I'm genuinely mortified for everyone involved.
May 20, 201312 yr I hope you're not talking about that thing (was it with HORNS or some shit?!) but yeah the dancers were FAB *.* Of course I'm not talking about the horned thing. I was talking about the dancers which had some kind of musical instrument also, and all the tribal tattoos.

I read on the rte website that Ireland have confirmed they are taking part next year, ratings peaked at 1.8 million for the final and almost 1.1 million watched the full thing, the semi finals also had big ratings there. Eurovision is huge in Ireland as to my knowledge ratings like that are magnificent for Ireland.
May 24, 201312 yr ^ Yeah, people here mock it but they secretly love it. Thankfully Linda Martin is GONE from the Irish delegation so hopefully we can send something current. Like, I honestly don't understand why RTÉ are going out of their way to send dated songs. They've said they want to host Eurovision again, so it's not a case of sending crap songs so we don't win. They need to take the plunge and have a national final with acts like , , , , , and the abundance of other talent this country possesses. I will not be satisfied until this happens. :P

I could have seen Ryan Dolan beating most of the top 10 from this year's Eurovision on that horrid Eurosong.
