Posted August 17, 200618 yr Don't you think they should have left it another year to give the other acts a chance to release their material first? It feels way too soon to be doing another series. Many of the acts from last year have only just started releasing material like Maria for instance. Also, many of last year's acts havent done great. Only Shane has had moderate success and I wouldnt say he has done brilliant. Not even sure if he will be around in another year. Maybe they need to change the formulae? It seems to me all it is about is making a quick fix of money by releasing cover versions and not very original material. Not many of the acts seem to last very long or have a substained period of success apart from Will Young, Girls Aloud and Lemar.
August 17, 200618 yr Author Yes, its been a year but I still think its way too soon. Some of the acts from last year havent even released anything yet. They will end up killing the whole thing in the end!!
August 17, 200618 yr It is getting a bit old now. They just have'nt got a clue how to make an act succesful. They need to give Shayne upbeat songs and stop giving him Westlife songs :puke2: It will be the same this year but i will still watch for entertainment value  Sharon and Simon  Louis :puke:
August 17, 200618 yr I think it's time to end them PERSONALLY, they're getting repetitive and X Factor isn't even about finding the best 'new talent' anymore, it's about which judge 'wins' and then their winner is SO GOOD that they release a load of ballads for him to mime to and the others do a load of covers in order to sell as many albums as possible on the back of the show -_- Shayne will probably be gone within a year and the winner of this one will probably face the same fate, I don't think we'll get another Will Young out of this again as they want to rush everything now and so the winner won't get ANY say on their material AT ALL. They have seen that the only way for manufactured artists to sell anything is to target the pensioner/house wife market as these shows (and Busted) have made the younger generation turn their back on manufactured pop in favour of artists needing to be more 'credible' nowadays bar a few excpetions. I used to be a big fan of these shows but they just annoy me now as much as the first few episodes make great TV.
August 17, 200618 yr I think the public are fed up with the seemingly endless run of talent shows on tv, it was so different 5 years ago, it was new and fresh and it was actually about finding a talented singer that would endure and go the distance. Now it's about how funny the freaks are for nearly half the series and which judge can get more airtime on camera, I think people have overdosed on these shows now and lets face it, even well established acts are struggling to hang on to their careers at the moment, let alone another set of winners and losers flooding the market.
August 17, 200618 yr money is the answer, all format these days try for the vote, the phone in .. that is all that guides the shows. as long as the GBP dutifully dial those premuim numbers night in night out the quicker they make the shows! if people had the nonce to decide not to phone in - the shows would die on their feet, does anyone seriously think they give one jot about new talent or anything other than making bucketfuls of cash
August 17, 200618 yr What I want to happen is.... That sharon wins this year. If her act wins this year, judging by sharon I dont think we would get one ballad from her act
August 17, 200618 yr I only voted in the 1st pop idol because i knew i would be interested in buying the winners album when it was eventually released [ depending of course on the standard of the music] I have never voted since because i have not seen anyone who caught my attention enough that i would be willing to pay for the phone vote

They're just interested in advertising revenues from the programme and the money they get from our votes. I am now completely cynical! So I will definitely not vote again, as anyone's career success doesn't have anything to do with winning (see Lemar). If I end up having any favourites this year, I will hope that they don't win. As far back as PI1 (final 3), somebody wise called winning "a poisoned chalice" and I think he's been proved right a few times since. Edited August 17, 200618 yr by Toni
August 17, 200618 yr It's all about money, the show creates money and ratings, but not music artists. All the show producers want is the money.

PI1 was the only one of these shows I voted in. (For Gareth needless to say) I don't understand anyone going through the process of voting for someone if they have no intention of supporting them once they release music. If the fans don't support their favourites during the initial period after these shows, what chance do they have of hanging around long enough to progress on to something better.
August 17, 200618 yr what they need this year is a girl to win coz it seems that only men are eligible for finals (except for michelle mcmanus) it needs to be sharons act, about 20 years old, she needs pop songs, someone like pink-girls aloud-kelly clarkson esque (is that the right word?) then get simon to get kelly clarkson to help right her first album, she can do a couple of collabirations with her, then she will be worldwide, that's all they need to do, but it will end up like last year, the only one with a chance of a career getting booted of in the 4th week and then we end up with all the housewives favourites in the final
August 17, 200618 yr Why do we need a British version of Kelly Clarkson or Pink? Part of Shayne's blurb last year was that he could be the UK's answer to Justin Timberlake. All of these US stars are global, we've got them over here, why do we need clones of 'em? If they really really want to have a genuine winner, then they should be looking for a unque talent, anything else, and it's the poor mans version of Stars in their Eyes.

August 17, 200618 yr The thing is though it should really only be the winner that gets to release so why should they delay the show another year just so the people who aparntly dont have the x factor (Maria, Chico, Journey South, Andy) can release more stuff and become established.

Why should only the winner get the chance to release music. If there are several contestant that have talent they should all be given a chance. After all there can only be one winner, but that doesn't mean only one has talent. That's like saying only the winning team or player in the World Cup or at Wimbledon should be able to enter more tournaments
August 17, 200618 yr I just realised the why i said it, i didnt mean to say these artists shouldnt be able to release I am just saying that people are saying there shouldnt be a show this year they should wait till this year as artists such as Maria are just releasing now, but the thing is Maria didn't win so the producers don't really don't care that she is just releasing they just want the next lot of people in.
August 17, 200618 yr Simon Fuller made a decision to give Pop Idol a rest before running it again in the UK as he didn't want the public to get bored, and to give the talent pool a chance to replenish itself. Even though most people seem to agree that it needs a rest between series, ITV didn't want to go for a year without a certain ratings winner with fantastic phone-line revenue, and a certain Simon Cowell had no qualms whatsoever of taking advantage of the gap. Going back to the World Cup analogy. People get so excited about it because it's only on once every four years. People need the chance to build up some anticipation between shows, but personally, each of these shows has become less and less interesting. It's less and less about having open, televised auditions to give everyone and not just those with uncles in the business a chance. Now it's more and more about making a reality tv show that pulls out all the stops to get the big ratings, and doesn't care about the longer term effects on the people involved. I remember the first Pop Idol and Nicky Chapman explaining that when the final 5 went to the film premiere of Black Hawk Down it was the first chance the press had to get any kind of proper access to them, and even then it was restricted. This was so that they didn't peak too soon, and I'm sure helped to keep them all interesting beyond the end of the series. On X Factor, the individual judges are so obsessed with winning, and the producers are so obsessed with ratings that they have all their contestants doing the full promotional circuit week in and week out.
August 17, 200618 yr The show is all about big ratings & making money out of the phone-lines votes. Finding a future popstar comes a distant third in the list of priorities.
