August 18, 200618 yr Ive mssed out a few that could add avant garde--Yoko Ono (Altough ive only got one of her albums, Fly) Heavy metal-ish stuff-- Rob zombie--Living dead girl 9I dont like any more of his stuff) emo/rock (I think this band are emo/rock?)--MCR (I dont like them but jet set life was listeneble) see, you cant get more varied than that   That's a pretty laughable claim If your idea of Avant Garde is Yoko Ono, then I suggest you listen to people like Glenn Branca, early Sonic Youth, Merzbow, Brian Eno, etc... Rob Zombie is more Industrial/Horror Rock. When I talk of Metal I mean Slayer, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Fear Factory, Sepultura, Emperor, Cradle of Filth.... As for My Chemical Romance.. That's just Pop/Rock on a par with stuff like The Rasmus or Blink 182.... Just cos they dress in black and have bad eyeliner don't make them 'emo' or whatever.... Emo used to mean "Emotional Hardcore" and it was applied to bands such as Weezer, Sebadoh, etc....

August 19, 200618 yr how is ringo not classicle/metal??? havent you herd "Stop And Take The Time To Smell The Roses"??? As a Beatles fan (FYI, a great Beatles forum is Shabby Road), I have heard parts of the Ringo Starr album from 1981 featuring a "classical music" arrangement of former Brian Wilson/Beach Boys cohort Van Dyke Parks on it. It is not an enjoyable listen. As well as some of Grimly Fiendish's excellent recommendations...I'd also recommend Frank Zappa (try his best of "Strictly Commercial" a 1995 Rykodisc release for starters) - for a variety of different musical landscapes. I agree this thread has gone off topic, so apologises to anyone concerned but I'm going to close the thread. If you want to talk about different non generic type music - as this thread has gone on to, then I would recommend starting a thread in our Music:Culture forum HERE On topic: As for my opinion on the Darkness - They are an unfunny Bad News tribute act who made a pretty good debut album, but the joke has expired long ago since Justin Hawkins believes his own hype & people realised that he was not being ironic with his behaviour. As for the Darkness belonging in the Punk Rock & Metal Forum - if you regard acts that appear in Kerrang - then they do belong here (albeit they are about as popular as W******* in the Pop Forum). If you regard this forum for just covering acts that appear in Metal Hammer (or in the specialist HMV/Virgin Metal/EMO racks) - then they don't, but neither would superior Heavier Blues/Rock acts like AC/DC, Guns'N'Roses or retro acts like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath or Aerosmith. John - it might be a good idea to open up & clarify in a thread exactly the definition of acts you think should be posted in the Punk Rock & Metal forum as it appears to be strongly towards the latter? Cheers thisispop (Richard)
