Posted February 11, 201312 yr Robbie Williams: Now it’s take the Croon By GORDON SMART, Showbiz Editor FEBRUARY 10TH ROBBIE WILLIAMS reunited with one band in 2010. Now he’s planning on getting back together with another — but this lot won’t all fit on TAKE THAT’s giant robot Om that the singer kept from their last tour. Robbie will record his second big band album once he completes his upcoming solo tour. His first Rat Pack-style album, Swing When You’re Winning, was a No1 in 2001. A source said: “Robbie can’t sit still, he always wants to do something different from the previous album. “He’s currently weighing up which swing classics to record. There are so many, so it’s going to be a tough choice. “He loved Swing When You’re Winning and is looking forward to playing with a big band again.” Robbie starts his Take The Crown tour on June 18 in Manchester, after performing warm-up gigs between September and November last year. His last album, which featured No1 single Candy, reverted back to his classic pop sound after various experimental releases. Despite his return to a winning formula, Robbie’s thirst for mixing it up clearly hasn’t gone away — and his new release could feature more special guests. Swing When You’re Winning contained a number of duets, including tracks with Robbie’s mate JONATHAN WILKES and Hollywood A-lister NICOLE KIDMAN. Now they’re best pals again, you can’t rule out a big band duet with GARY BARLOW — which would be well up the Take That frontman’s street. And Robbie clearly has the confidence to start experimenting once more. During the promotion of his upcoming tour he laid down the gauntlet to his pop rivals. He’s even starting to sound like a WWE wrestler. Robbie said: “There’s nobody that’s come along and said I deserve to be in stadiums. This is my domain, I own this s*** and I think that’s me.” Thankfully he stopped short of ripping apart his vest. The SUN UK Edited February 11, 201312 yr by Sydney
February 11, 201312 yr It will probably do very well, his first swing album remains his biggest selling album ( i hope that is correct). It is not a style of album i would purchase though.
February 11, 201312 yr I can't say I'm overly excited by this announcement. I know he loves swing music but in my opinion it's a case of 'been there, done that, move on'. -_-
February 11, 201312 yr I can see him doing another Royal Albert Hall gig to promote it. I'm not keen on swing music, although I do like Robbie singing Mr Bojangles, he does that so well
February 11, 201312 yr I don't think it will sell very well. The last Swing album had novelty value. By now every singer and his granny has released a swing album. Even Pestlife -_-
February 11, 201312 yr Jups  Do you remember what we both said and thought about Candy when it came out?
February 11, 201312 yr No. You are wrong. I always thought Candy would do well. Ear-worm I said. Remember? ^_^
February 11, 201312 yr No. You are wrong. I always thought Candy would do well. Ear-worm I said. Remember? ^_^ It took you a long while before you said that, alot of swearing beforehand if I remember rightly. :P The summer wind?
February 11, 201312 yr I didn't like it very much. But I always thought it was a good choice for a single. :P
February 12, 201312 yr I can't say I'm overly excited by this announcement. I know he loves swing music but in my opinion it's a case of 'been there, done that, move on'. -_- Exactly my thoughts. I didn't see this coming, especially after what he said a couple of years ago: British singer ROBBIE WILLIAMS is pleased MICHAEL BUBLE "wasn't around" when he released his swing album in the early 2000s - because he's convinced the Canadian star now rules the genre. The Angels hitmaker covered classics including Mr. Bojangles and MACk the Knife for 2001's Swing When You're Winning, but he's sure his efforts would have been overlooked by fans if Buble had been present in the charts at the same time. He tells Britain's Magic 105.4 radio station, "My dad's record collection is full of swing stuff - Ella Fitzgerald, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr. - so I've been brought up on swing really and Michael Buble wasn't around to ruin it for everybody at the time, because he's the real deal. "Harry Connick, Jr., Michael Buble - they're kind of the only guys who have been doing it in the last 15 years and doing it very, very well. "Fortunately Harry Connick, Jr. was on a break and Michael Buble wasn't around so there was a void and I filled that before Michael Buble showed how to do it properly." http://www.contactmusic.com/news/williams-...-talent_1167082 It'll be interesting if he goes up against TT at Christmas. Doubt he will though. I still think he'll be involved in some shape or form in their new album, even if it's just a bonus track at the end
February 13, 201312 yr Maybe there will be a Robbie/Mr Bubble duet on the album? I believe they are quite friendly. ^_^
February 22, 201312 yr We always knew this was coming  I really can't see him doing an actual follow up to SwingWYW ie. another covers album with the songs that didn't fit in. If he is working with Guy again I am expecting an original album in a Swing style with maybe a couple of covers at the most. Although having said that Xmas is the time for a Swing album and I can't see him going up against TT (whether he appears on their album or not). Hopefully him and Guy are writing shit loads of tracks and he releases the follow up to Escapology - a big pop/rock album this summer right after the tour :D
February 24, 201312 yr I don't think he'll release anything close to Escapology any time soon because he said before Take the Crown came out that it was the follow up to Escapology, which is what we all want(ed). I'd be happy with another swing album  he's excellent at that!
February 24, 201312 yr Maybe there will be a Robbie/Mr Bubble duet on the album? I believe they are quite friendly. ^_^ Now that would be truly amazing!! I like to watch the DVD Live at the Albert because it's Robbie at his best! I never play the CD Swing WYW though, definitely prefer his other albums for a listen.
February 25, 201312 yr I never play SWWYW either. Maybe we're going to get Singin' in the Rain on the new album since he sung that on Ant N Dec on Saturday. Does that count as Swing? That duvet cover is beyond hideous btw. I'd refuse to sleep in a bed with that thing on it. By 'thing' I mean the duvet cover, not Robbie obv. -_-
