Mark Kamins, the dj that launched Madonna's carrer in 1982 by playing her demos at Danceteria and introducing her to Sire Record boss Seymour Stein, has died of a heart attack.

Mark also produced Madonna's first single "Everybody", the most popular version of the song we all know and that ended up on her first album.

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Madonna writes: "I'm very sorry to hear about Marks death. I haven't seen him for years but if it weren't for him, I might not have had a singing career. He was the first DJ to play my demos before I had a record deal. He believed in me before anyone else did. I owe him a lot. May he Rest in Peace."

Here's a video (6 mins) about Mark and others talking about Madonna's early days. This doco was done in 2001.

Thank god for Mark, if he never helped Madonna maybe she might never have got to where she has become.

On the plus side its a good excuse to play Everybody today ;).

Thanks for posting that video Madonna specials in late 90s early 2000 were so special

Those kinda things don't happen these days. When I became a proper fan in the late 90s they used to be loads of docos on Madonna on the music channels now there's nothing.
