Ok. I'm going to try to explain as best I can why I'm perturbed tonight. And you can all shoot me down in flames if you like. But it's how I feel. I think.

It's the new album. In fact, it's the new Robbie.

I've been reading the interview with him a few posts ago where he says something like 'I'm 8 albums in and I'm now going to record the songs that I like' or words to that effect. He then says something like he doesn't need to be a populist any more and wants to do 'wonky pop'.

Don't get me wrong, I can't wait for the new album. But I kind of assumed it was some sort of side adventure ( a bit like Swing WYW) and normal Robbie service would then resume. Populist Robbie in fact. Because I like populist Robbie damn it. I like big sing along stadium rock anthems. I want Come Undones, Feels and Angels. I don't want Rudeboxes. Sorry but it's the truth. I don't.

But from reading the above I don't think this new electro pop album is a sideline. I think it's actually him changing direction for good. And I'm scared I don't like the new direction. I'm not keen on Rudebox. I like Lovelight. But I don't like it in a 'Feel/Come Undone' way. It's not going to make the soundtrack to my life.

All Robbie's songs up till now have meant so much to me. I kind of assumed he himself loved these songs and sang them from the heart. But now he says he wants to start recording the music he actually likes. So what has he been recording up till now? Songs he hasn't liked? Has it all been a fraud? Just populist Robbie churning out stuff that the public likes ( but he actually doesn't)?

I love innovation. I love Tripping. But I don't want him to go so leftfield that I can't relate to the songs any more.

I know I'm probably worrying for nothing. In all probability I'm going to love the new album.

And I know artists should record what makes they themselves happy, not just what their fans want.

But I kind of assumed up till now that the music Robbie loved was also the music I loved. The fact that may not be the case is what has perturbed me.

And him giving an interview to her hasn't helped my humour tonight. A very shrewd business move but it doesn't say much for his integrity.

There. Ramble over. I feel better now. And I still love him. ;)

I agree Jups and sometimes it scares me aswell but I just can't believe that he didn't mean Feel or Come Undone....sorry Robbie but I'm not buying that so....knowing Robbie it probably will be just a side thingy....I hope

I know what you mean Jupiter, we all love Come Undone, Angels Feel etc..and so does he, he's written them and is singing them and very proud of them too, but he's trying something different out, he has to change to a degree or become stale and out of date. Everyone goes through slumps in their careers, he knows that, but he has the guts to try to keep a head of the game and he is prepared to fall by it too.

We have in Robbie an artist that nobody would support at one time, and many other hopefuls would like to have that extra something that makes Robbie Robbie. Rudebox is just that.

You will relate to his new songs Jupiter, even VN said that in one track his voice gave her the shivers down her spine, and it will you too. You wait and see and just maybe by doing this even if we are not sure we are going to like it, ensures that we will have Robbie around doing what he does the best rather longer than if he didn't experiment. He needs to do this to stop becoming bored and us along with him. One thing Robbie never is and that is boring.

And we will still love him regardless.

And there's five cover versions on it

Robbie Williams will be backed by a host of guest stars on his new album 'Rudebox'.

The record, out on October 23, sees the star collaborating with a host of his musical heroes, including the Pet Shop Boys and producers William Orbit and Joey Negro.

There are five cover versions featured - and on his version of Manu Chao's 'King Of The Bongo', current chart sensation Lily Allen provides backing vocals.

The title track of the album is released as a single on September 4.

The full tracklisting is:

'Rudebox'

'Viva Life On Mars'

'Lovelight' (Lewis Taylor cover)

'King Of The Bongo' (Manu Chao cover)

'She's Madonna'

'Keep On'

'Good Doctor'

'The Actor'

'Never Touch That Switch'

'Louise' (Human League cover)

'We're The Pet Shop Boys' (My Robot Friend cover)

'Burslem Normals'

'Kiss Me' (Stephen 'Tin Tin' Duffy - cover)

'The 80s'

'The 90s'

'Summertime'

'Dickhead'

Robbie Williams is currently on his 'Close Encounters' world tour, which hits the UK in September.

Souce: NME ^_^

Wonder if the NME will slate it as normal....

WOW. What amazing write-ups....and VN approves. :yahoo:

I can understand people being apprehensive but as Susie said he needs to keep re-inventing himself and his music. We are always going to have those classics...he's not taking them away from us. He is just taking us on another exciting journey, and thats just one of the reasons I love him so dearly.

Roll on October and thanks for all the reviews guys. It's been a brilliant morning of reading

No one takes NME seriously anymore

I do wonder what "Q" will say though

NME have already reported on it and on the whole they liked it.

I don't understand why people are worried they won't like the new album. It's ok not to like something that he does.

If it turns out that you don't like it, listen to some different music, and wait to see what he comes up with next, it won't kill you.

Jupiter, I wouldn't be so worried. First of all, you don't even know yet if you won't like the album.

The other thing is with Rob that sometimes he changes his mind as often as his underwear (that's how I see it) and we also know that he always is very enthusiastic about his current album and then rubbishes a previous one. When he released Intensive Care he was exactly the same and I don't think he always means it, or probably he means it for the moment but not forever. Besides, when you read stuff in print only and don't see him talking you always have to be careful, it won't come with a warning like *Robbie-being-ironic- or-funny-here*

NOW this is the music he wants to make and is passionate about, but it could be different again in 3 or 5 years or whatever time and we might get another album like his classics.

And about the interview he gave VN : jupiter, you think it doesn't say much for his integrity -

I think by doing this he showed that he is not as childish and vindictive as she assumed he would be and that's very positive to me

He said he wouldn't publish his album if he thought it was bad, or worse then the previous...I'm scared but sure it will be

I wasn't intending on it killing me. ;)

Here's some my opinion... -_- I like more 1974 for name of the album, or even Rudebox74. Don't like name Rudebox... <_< In fact I always hate that thing when artists called theirs albums same like the name of some song from that album. It's without any imagination... <_< Like all names of Robbie's albums, but Rudebox I don't like. -_-

I totally agree with Jupiter's text and Robbieca.

Just one question:

When double single from IC A Place to Crash / Ghost should be out????????

Is that mean two more new videos from Rob? It's strange if last single from IC came out after first from Rudebox, isn't it?  Also, don't you all think this is too much job for Rob? I mean, tour, new album, two more videos...

So, what's the truth? When this double single come out and also what's with two more new spot?

Edited by Nada

Nada I don;t think there will be a double single out of APTC/Ghosts. :)
How not?  Isn't that was a plan? <_< :o
But anyway just three single from IC... :(

There won't be new singles from IC ! Rudebox is not a side album or something. It's a poper new Robbie album. So the IC era is over. :( :( :( A place to crash had to be released :(

LifeLight

:( Its a real shame there wasn't any other songs released from IC album, there were so many good ones on there that I think may of been more of a hit than the ones that were released first, but everyone has their own opinions and tastes.

I'm going to reserve judgement on Robbies new album until I've heard it, I don't see the point worrying about how it will do until then.

Robbie Williams' 'Rudebox' Inspired By PJ & Duncan

And their rapping technique...

By: Lowri Williams on 8/23/2006

http://usera.imagecave.com/jackie1/CC/rudebox2-copy.jpg

TV presenter Ant & Dec are set to appear in the new Robbie Williams video.

Robbie is said to be desperate for the Geordie boys to feature in the new video for his cover of the Human League song ‘Louise’.

He is hoping that Ant & Dec will appear as the schoolboys that were so popular in their SMTV sketches years ago.

A source said: “It’s Robbie’s idea that the video be set in a school – with him, Ant, Dec and also his mate Jonathan Wilkes dressed up as school boys.â€

Robbie is big friends with the Geordie lads and admits that his new track ‘Rudebox’ was inspired by hits from PJ & Duncan - as Ant & Dec were previously known, and his rapping style on the new single attempts to emulate hit’s like ‘Let’s Get Ready To Rumble’.

He said: “I have always wanted to be a rapper. I’ve always been jealous of rappers because of how comfy they are and how cool they look. I want to be a rapper – but the world won’t let me.â€

There’s a reason Robbie…stick to the singing pet.
