Rudebox The Album - Number 1 again in European Album Sales ( per Nov 24th ) still going great

Good to hear that it's still doing so well in Europe.

To be honest I was expecting him to lose the top spot this week, so I'm extra happy. :cheer:

I thought George Michael would've knocked him off myself :o

However next week will be tough. U2 or Oasis will definatly knock him off. -_-

I am hoping it will hang in there for another week or two at the top in Europe - it's still holding its own after a month. Rudebox is a great Album & I think it will do well over Xmas. It takes some time to really find out how well an Album is selling as not all sales are included in the charts - CDWow & Play.com - not included as far as I know.

THE Fab Four, a cricket fan, Italian stallions and Australia's own showgirl princess.

They're better known as The Beatles, The 12th Man, Il Divo and Kylie Minogue. And they're just some of the artists fighting to claim the No. 1 spot on the ARIA album chart this Christmas.

While the title of Australia's best-selling CD is hotly contested all year, it takes on extra significance in the silly season, not least because a No. 1 slot can translate into serious dollars.

"There are plenty of people who only buy CDs at Christmas because music is one of the easiest gifts to give," SonyBMG Adelaide promotions manager Simon Saunders said. "Generally, the once-a-year shoppers go immediately to the ARIA chart and look at what's No. 1, or at least in the Top 10, and choose from there.

"I also think shoppers are looking for CDs that have a proven history, with three or four hits on the one disc rather than one-hit wonders.

"That's why established acts usually do so well."

Mark Raphael, general manager of the Muses music chain, said the most successful Christmas CDs were "anything that appeals to the mass market". He is predicting either Human Nature or U2 will go all the way, although he also is backing Robbie Williams, who will bring his Close Encounters tour to AAMI Stadium on December 5.

"I think he'll do well because he's around, he's in the country and that (CD Rudebox) is a successful one," Mr Raphael said. "But it's always good to see Australian artists doing well – like Guy Sebastian or Human Nature."

Mr Saunders – who watched SonyBMG act Il Divo storm the festive charts in 2005 with its self-titled CD – said there was also the prestige factor.

"Having the No. 1 CD at Christmas time is also important as the chart closes off for a few weeks, so that final No. 1 gets to stay there for a while," he said. "And having a No. 1 right through our busiest trading period is just the icing on the cake."

The sentiment is shared by Universal Music Australian southern region manager Paul Barker.

"Once you have the No. 1 spot, the album is positioned in all stores, in their prime position, therefore generating even more sales," he said. "It is not only about the prestige, though. With a band like U2 it is also about due recognition for some of the best music of the last 20 years."

Noticed that Robbie Williams is leading the Calendar Sales for 2007 but they mention despite poor sales of the Album RUDEBOX - Are these guys totally blind to the fact that RUDEBOX is NUMBER 1 in The European Sales Charts for 4 weeks now - I would not call that poor sales - are they Twits or what -Agh --------------------

TessaT, obviously they talk about UK sales, only they don't mention that.

It's always the same - if someone is big in the UK they are hailed as the best thing since sliced bread, even if they have no success whatsoever in the rest of Europe/the world (Girls Aloud or Westlife would come to mind for example...). But if someone like Rob has really good sales worldwide but not so much in the UK, then they are considered a flop. At least that's the way I understand their logic. -_-

Monsoon

If that is the case & based on the number of units he sold in the UK that were counted as part of the Official Charts then everyone else's sales are rubbish as well - units are way down for nearly everyone since last year. I do not think that the charts are correct as they do not count sales via cdwow, & other sites - after all Rudebox was number 1 for weeks in the prechart sales - makes me very suspicious.

Anyway , does it really matter - his album is doing just great & by the way i dont think they know what the word logic means.

That's another point, Tessa. What are good sales figures for other artists are a flop when it comes to Rob.

Strangely with him, people or the press feel they have to comment on his "failure" whereas I read no such things about other artists who don't sell anymore than him. -_-

Holy c**p, Rudebox has slipped down to #20 in the UK album chart :o :o

This could'nt possibly get any worse

Oh and Pest$h!te are #1 in the albums chart. I rest my case. Just proves how diabolical people's taste is these says :arrr:

Good point - I would love to know who put the negative reviews on the Amazon site when the rudebox album was first released , it put people off. All the reviews after that were excellent up to last week when they have got negative again - someone up to no good I think.

Nearly all of the bad reviews appeared BEFORE the album was released and people were only judging by the single I think. Amazon should'nt have posted reviews up before the album. It most definatly did put people off, but it now has 4 stars ^_^

Oh btw, When it was announced Westlifw were #1 Radio 1 refused to play a song from the album

I never thought I'd see the day when a Westlife covers album had UK first week sales well in excess of a Robbie album. It truly is disheartening. The public gets what the public wants as they say.

It's simply astonishing the public have done this :( Especially with a bloody cover album <_<

All the publicity Vicky gave it probebly encouraged more houswives to buy the bloody thing

Oasis were only 6k behind Pest$h!te in the end  Bloody hell

Male voice choir hits the charts

A male voice choir is rubbing shoulders with the likes of Oasis and The Beatles in the album charts.

Froncysyllte Male Voice Choir, based near Llangollen, Denbighshire, saw its debut CD Voices of the Valley break into the charts at number 13.

It is also second in the classical charts after selling 37,000 copies.

The 60-year-old choir was signed to a major label after being spotted at a wedding by Daniel Glatman, manager of boy band Blue.

The choir, with an average age of 66, outsold Justin Timberlake and Robbie Williams and its CD went gold within three days of being on sale.

It is the next highest entry behind the major releases by Oasis, The Beatles, U2 and Westlife, whose pre-Christmas "blockbuster" albums all went on sale last week.

The shame of it.

Maybe it's the choir from the White Christmas sketch. :o
