Which retro pop albums are really good ? (Before 90s)

Please, something not very well-known (without ABBA, Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Blondie, Bucks Fizz).

Pet Shop Boys - Actually

I heard it before.

Their duet with Dusty Springfield will be my # 1 in retro charts.

For all PSB fans : One my Internet friend did his HUGE personal Pet Shop Boys countdown:

http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=93257

He wrote it in the first post :

I just had to. Could not resist any longer. This is my new project. Man, this was not an easy decision. Their catalogue is vast. I'm a long-time fan and I'm still discovering, still not done after all these years. There are about 270 distinct songs. ...and then there are the different versions, extended versions, mixes, dubs. So many!! At the moment, I have 358 PSB tracks in my music collection BUT I KNOW that there are MORE THAN 600 out there. I have to restrain, retain, hold back, but I can't. Doing the Björk countdown was easier, much. But yeah, let's do this. Maybe this will never actually happen but my intentions were sincere. Coming soon...

To rank songs I compare each with each song because I believe this is the most intuitive way to do it. 36,856 comparisons, maybe a few less because I already think of an abbreviation.

In your opening post you didn't exclude males or compilations and many people consider Queen to be pop. ;)

Must explain more :

1. I heard most singles from UK charts, especially from 70s and early 80s, and want to know more about albums tracks.

2. About male artists : I'm not a huge fan of any male artists, but this thread is for everybody, who wants to find nice pop albums, not only for me.

3. Compilations = singles collections for most albums.

About Queen :

Wikipedia : Queen are a British rock band formed in London in 1970. Queen's earliest works were influenced by progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal, but the band gradually ventured into more conventional and radio-friendly works, incorporating more diverse and innovative styles in their music.

Blondie is a pop group for me, so I can understand, if Queen is a pop group for anybody.

Yes but pop is short for popular and Queen was very popular in the 70s and 80s, also you didn't read further down to the Musical Style section. ;)

Musical style

The band drew artistic influence from many other British rock acts at the time, such as The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Who, Black Sabbath, Slade, Deep Purple and David Bowie.[212] Queen composed music that drew inspiration from many different genres of music, often with a tongue-in-cheek attitude.[213] The genres they have been associated with include progressive rock,[212] glam rock,[212] hard rock,[212] heavy metal,[212] pop rock,[212] psychedelic rock,[214] blues rock and dance/disco.[215] Queen also wrote songs that were inspired by genres that are not typically associated with rock, such as ragtime, opera, gospel, vaudeville, and folk.

Queen are clearly not a pop act in the way that AlexRange means. It's obvious from reading his threads what he means by pop and what he likes.
