1989: Easter Sunday 26th March

The entire top 5 stayed put this week. Soul II Soul ft Caron Wheeler were number 5 with Keep On Movin', Paul Abdul was at 4 with Straight Up and Donna Summer was at number 3 with This Time I Know It's For Real. Number 2 for the second of three weeks, after two at the topspot, was Neighbours heart throb Jason Donovan with Too Many Broken Hearts. Number 1 was Madonna's controversial single Like A Prayer, with a deliberately provocative video featuring homicide, stigmata and, near the end, burning crosses.

In a new entry at number 4, Bryan Adams was asking Have You Ever Really Loved A Woman. The top 3 stayed put, with Bobby Brown's Two Can Play That Game at 3, and the Outhere Brothers at 2 with Don't Stop (Wiggle, Wiggle). Number One for a second easter running, were Take That with Back For Good.

Take That had split in February, and there last ever single was on it's way down, so they wouldn't be making it 3 easter number ones in a row, so who was gonna do it? Mark Morrison's Return Of The Mack climbed one place to number 3 and Mark Snow's X-Files theme was staying put at 2. Staying put at the top spot was another rather controversial charttopper, about as far removed from chocolate eggs and fluffy bunnies as you could get, The Prodigy's Firstarter.

I can't find an ad-free version of the actual video or of a contemporary performance (I'm guessing they didn't actually perform it in 1998, being as it was a remix of a song from 1984), so I present for you instead a similar video of various people dancing, including a certain moonwalker
