Watch U2′s Bono and Damien Rice Duet

APRIL 6, 2013

We’ve always wondered when the Bono, Damien Rice, Glen Hansard, and others’ annual Christmas Eve busk might lead to an onstage collaboration, but now it’s finally happened: the U2 frontman and fellow Irish songwriter joined forces in support of former political prisoner Aung San Suu Kyi for last year’s Electric Burma concert last year. Their song selection was rather appropriate, given not only the pair’s past Grafton Street jams but also Rice’s solo take on “One,” which remains a standout off the Achtung Baby tribute set released not long prior. Supposedly the Edge was due to perform, as well, but was forced to sit out due to his mother \ away just days before the show.

In any event, official footage from the concert just surfaced online, and we’d be remiss not pointing out this excellent pair of performances. Is it a sign that the U2 singer might guest on Damien Rice’s forthcoming album (rumored to be in the works with Rick Rubin producing)? Perhaps, but either way here’s a post-Grafton Street busking duo taking the spotlight in a fine moment for the ages:
