African Well Fund Launches 11th Annual Build a Well for Bono's Birthday Fundraiser

 

 

 

Campaign honoring U2 lead singer will fund a water, sanitation and hygiene project for schoolchildren in Mali.

The African Well Fund will host the 11th Annual Build a Well for Bono's Birthday fundraiser April 15–May 31. African Well Fund aims to raise $10,000 through this year's fundraiser to fully fund the Mali Dibaro School WASH Project, a $50,000 project to be implemented by Africare that will benefit over 1,800 schoolchildren and community members.

 

 

In addition to accepting donations online , African Well Fund will also be raising money for Build a Well for Bono's Birthday by auctioning a custom snare drum donated by District Drum Co. The fundraiser will also be the beneficiary of a screening of the film "Meet Me in the Sound" and an after party featuring Unforgettable Fire during the 2013 U2

 

 

Donors are invited to submit their birthday messages to the African Well Fund web page which will be included in a card that will be sent to Bono in care of Principle Management.

Between 2003 and 2012, U2 fans donated more than $220,000 in Bono's honor to fund the construction of clean water and sanitation projects, implemented in Africare, that are benefiting more than 56,000 people in Angola, Benin, Burkina Faso, Liberia, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

 

"It's incredible to realize that we have a decade of support for this fundraiser now," said Diane Yoder, African Well Fund board vice chairman and treasurer. "I am so grateful to all the fans who support this fundraiser year after year. I hope they realize what a significant impact their contributions have had on so many lives."

The African Well Fund is a registered 501©(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the mission of funding clean water and sanitation projects in sub-Saharan Africa. Since its founding in 2002, the organization has raised more than $1 million to fund 32 projects in 15 countries, benefiting more than 350,000 people.

I expected this to be a story about his wife buying him a wishing well for their back garden. I should have known. All very noble etc etc.
