YES. I definitely compared Montenegro's entry to DJ Fresh's "Louder" when I first heard it. It could so be a hit here...if it was sung in English I guess. Either way, I expect it to qualify, probably the best entry to attempt a dubstep type sound this year (and LORD KNOWS there have been enough of those this year)

My ideal qualifiers would be:

01 Austria: Natália Kelly - Shine

03 Slovenia: Hannah - Straight Into Love

05 Denmark: Emmelie de Forest - Only Teardrops

06 Russia: Dina Garipova - What If

07 Ukraine: Zlata Ognevich - Gravity

08 Netherlands: Anouk - Birds

09 Montenegro: Who See, Nina Žižić - Igranka

11 Belarus: Alyona Lanskaya - Solayoh

12 Moldova: Aliona Moon - O mie

15 Belgium: Roberto Bellarosa - Love Kills

What I THINK (I have no idea) will qualify:

02 Estonia: Birgit - Et uus saaks alguse

04 Croatia: Klapa s Mora - Mižerja

05 Denmark: Emmelie de Forest - Only Teardrops

06 Russia: Dina Garipova - What If

07 Ukraine: Zlata Ognevich - Gravity

08 Netherlands: Anouk - Birds

09 Montenegro: Who See, Nina Žižić - Igranka

11 Belarus: Alyona Lanskaya - Solayoh

12 Moldova: Aliona Moon - O mie

16 Serbia: Moje 3 - Ljubav je svuda

The only major loss there from my ideals will be Slovenia, but I've resigned myself to the fact they won't qualify.

Good choice! :cheer:

Who I want to qualify based on my Buzzvision top 10! The only songs I wouldn't want to qualify though are Lithuania and Croatia.

Surely the juries will eat the Netherlands' entry up that even if the televotes are low they'll still sail through.

I really cannot see how the Netherlands could fail to go through with the juries on hand.

First, a qualifier: this is probably the most difficult semi to call beyond the obvious qualifiers in quite a while. I think we're definitely in for a shock or two tonight, and the new voting system plays a big part in that. Whether it'll mean the most inoffensive entries get an advantage (after all, scoring big with either the juries or the televoters now means basically nothing if you finish bottom with the other half, whereas before it would've typically at least guaranteed marks of 8 or above) or whether the effects of it have been overstated we don't know yet, but I'd be willing to bet we'll get a big shock at some point in the next few days because of it.

Anyway, onto the contestants. I'll start with the obvious ones: there's no way in hell Denmark isn't qualifying, and if you seem to think it'll miss out then you either haven't been following Eurovision for very long or you're looking for attention. The same goes for the Netherlands - in a pre-50/50 age, I could've possibly seen it DNQing, but I reckon this type of music has got enough of a voting base to send it through along with inevitably huge jury marks (this is one of three contenders for the jury victor in this semi in my books, along with Denmark). Ukraine is big, mad, and stands out hugely, and I think it's through easily - but it's one of two potential big shocks in this semi. I could see a scenario where the juries turn against this. Moldova is incredibly effectively performed and I can't see a situation under which this doesn't qualify unless everything gets turned upside down by the voting change (I have it as the third jury victory contender.)

Russia I've put in very likely, as I can see it qualifying but also being the most likely 'shock exit' in this semi. Why? It's performed well, yes, but I could see its very clichéd nature potentially holding it back under the new voting system. In a semi flooded with ballads, this is the most paint-by-colours one of them all, and come the end of it I think there's a chance the juries and televoters of Europe would be more likely to go for another one than this. Not to say I don't think it will qualify - it's in Very Likely for a reason - but keep your eye on this one. I think it's a shoo-in for a 'shock' bottom ten result on Saturday if it gets through anyway.

Ireland is incredibly current and chart friendly, performed near the end with a memorable setting and backing dancers, and I can't see it having many troubles unless the juries turn.

Onto the borderlines. Serbia is a mess, lacks a strong hook, and isn't exactly accessible to non-Balkan ears, but the demographics of this semi favour it possibly more than any other country (maybe Russia aside). Belarus has a massive disco ball to stick in the mind, has an entry with a big accessible hook, and would ordinarily be a shoo-in were it not so dated. I think it'd be through on televotes pretty easily, but it's a matter of how the juries take to it. Belgium's just a pretty simple pop song performed straight up near the end - and don't underestimate the value of that sometimes. I think it could stand out before the dog's dinner of a performance from Serbia a lot, and it has a lot of the things going for it that Lithuania did last year, an entry similarly underpredicted. Add in that he had his best performance of the week in his second jury performance after technical difficulties in the first and I find it difficult to rule this out. Croatia is pretty inaccessible to non-Balkan ears, but unlike Serbia is pretty much total catnip for those Balkan ears of the semi, being a local genre which plays specifically on cultural advantage. In a very Balkan-heavy semi, reliable big votes from everyone in the Balkans and the odd vote from outside could be enough to get it over the finish line. The same applies for Montenegro - already a big hit in the Balkans and with astronaut suits to stick in the mind for the audience at home, I've ordinarily thought of this as a certainty for qualification, but the voting system could take this out: if the juries hate this (a big likelihood), it's a goner.

Onto the unlikelies. Cyprus and Estonia: dull and duller. Estonia's on early, in a native language, and people after a ballad will not be lost for alternative options more memorably presented. Cyprus is on late, in a native language, and people after a ballad will not be lost for alternative options more memorably presented (not to mention not presented at a point by which the genre of 'white female ballad' will have been overkilled for all viewers. I exaggerate, but only just.). Slovenia could've been a potential televote pick, being quite current, but the jury performance for this went terribly and I can see it being an easy DNQ.

Austria is dull and was nervously performed in the jury final last night. There's so little about it to make it stand out, from a country with very few generous neighbours, that I really cannot see where the votes would come from. Lithuania could be a jury pick, but ultimately it's The Highest Heights all over again - it's presented in a very dull, underwhelming way, in the middle where it could easily get lost.

Pre-semi prediction:

01 Denmark

02 Ukraine

03 Netherlands

04 Russia

05 Moldova

06 Ireland

07 Montenegro

08 Belgium

09 Serbia

10 Croatia

-

11 Belarus

12 Cyprus

13 Estonia

14 Lithuania

15 Slovenia

16 Austria

I have an each way bet on Belgium and got odds of 200/1 so i want them to qualify and to a complete shocker and come top 4 in the final. I do think the juries winner will be the Netherlands but televoting will let it down, Denmark on the other hand i can see doing well from both the public and juries.

Ireland is very chart friendly and current but i think the staging of the song will determine if it will go through or not as performances i have seen have been vocally strong but missing something in presentation.

Russia will also got through i am certain of that as will Ukraine.

Will probably watch this tonight, don't think anything else is on until The Valleys at 10pm - so I'll squeeze this in. I don't have high hopes, usually like about 6 in each semi

I'm gonna say these 10 before seeing them live:

Croatia

Denmark

Russia

Ukraine

Netherlands

Montenegro

Lithuania (I'd much rather it be Belarus but I'm going with worst case scenario).

Moldova

Ireland

Serbia

I'm really hoping for a Belarus qualifier, the song really is great

Also it's likely to recieve high points from Russia, Lithuania, Estonia and possibly Serbia & Montenegro

My final PREDICTIÓNES

01 Ukraine

02 Moldova

03 Denmark

04 Netherlands

05 Russia

06 Montenegro

07 Ireland

08 Croatia

09 Estonia

10 Serbia

-

11 Belgium

12 Belarus

13 Slovenia

14 Austria

15 Cyprus

16 Lithuania

Final predictions:

01 Denmark

02 Ukraine

03 Moldova

04 Netherlands

05 Russia

06 Montenegro

07 Ireland

08 Serbia

09 Belarus

10 Croatia

-

11 Belgium

12 Estonia

13 Lithuania

14 Slovenia

15 Austria

16 Cyprus

I will probably be voting for Moldova, Ukraine, Montenegro and maybe Estonia tonight, without having seen any of the performances - if any of them are proper standout then that may sway me too.

I'm throwing a vote to Belarus
