Regardless of who your FAVES ordinarily are, we as Euroloons all owe a BOND OF FEALTY to a certain MS VAL in this semi, as the only remaining connection with our COMMON HERITAGE. I should HOPE anybody residing in the following countries (or Germany/France/Spain) KNOWS WHAT TO DO. May 16, 201312 yr Author IDEALLY 01 Latvia: PeR - Here We Go 02 San Marino: Valentina Monetta - Crisalide (Volá) 03 Macedonia: Esma & Lozano - Pred da se razdeni 04 Azerbaijan: Farid Mammadov - Hold Me 05 Finland: Krista Siegfrids - Marry Me 06 Malta: Gianluca - Tomorrow 07 Bulgaria: Elitsa and Stoyan - Samo shampioni 08 Iceland: Eyþór Ingi - Ég á lif 09 Greece: Koza Mostra & Agathon Iakovidis - Alcohol Is Free 10 Israel: Moran Mazor - Rak bishvilo 11 Armenia: Dorians - Lonely Planet 12 Hungary: ByeAlex - Kedvesem (Zoohacker Remix) 13 Norway: Margaret Berger - I Feed You My Love 14 Albania: Adrian & Bledar - Identitet 15 Georgia: Nodi & Sophie - Waterfall 16 Switzerland: Takasa - You and Me 17 Romania: Cezar - It's My Life But that's not happening really, is it.
May 16, 201312 yr Author And for my CUSTOMARY OVERANALYSIS DEFINITES Azerbaijan Georgia Greece Norway VERY LIKELY Malta Switzerland LIKELY Finland Israel BORDERLINE Bulgaria Hungary (less likely) Iceland Romania UNLIKELY Albania Armenia San Marino DEAD ON ARRIVAL Latvia Macedonia -x- Well Azerbaijan have a 100% record, and with an easily accessible Western ballad with a simple and effective hook and the most effective staging of the evening, they aren't about to stop now. Norway's been critically acclaimed outside of Eurovision circles, and I think that even if there was the slightest risk that it wouldn't cross over to viewers at home that the juries would still be there to save it. Georgia copies straight from the Running Scared playbook, and with an enormoballad that somehow manages to bring the most overblown staging of the year I don't see any way this isn't sailing through. And Greece...it's my least favourite entry of the year that's in with a shout, and much as I'd love a scenario under which this didn't qualify, the idiot on the street appeal is just too strong for there to be a chance of that isn't there? And to the bottom. If relatives couldn't save Serbia and Montenegro in the most Balkan weighted semi in a while, then Macedonia's clunky overwrought mess (which I adore) isn't going through. And Latvia...no neighbours, a dated style executed poorly, and opening the night? A fifth year rotting in the semis beckons. Armenia and Albania suffer from the same issue - bringing a style of genre which hasn't ever really succeeded to a huge degree when presented in the way these both do. To get ahead in Eurovision, rock either has to be anthemic, dramatic, or bring a big, memorable stage performance, and neither of these do it - Albania will suffer from having its thunder stolen by Switzerland just two later, which does the genre in a rousing way accessible to Western tastes, while Albania pigeonholes itself through being in Albanian and toning down its big guitar hook from its original form, which it could've done well out of. And Armenia...well, being able to namedrop a songwriter rarely matters if the song is utter cack, and a whine about how the planet's dying over a rock dirge isn't going to be going very far. Turkey 2011 showed you can't rely on a diaspora when you haven't got the tune to back it up, and having just Georgia and France to call on in this semi-final doesn't bode well for Dorians. And so we come to Val. I hope to my core that Crisalide can go through, but from where I'm standing, Valentina's going down in a last hurrah for this genre at Eurovision. The only people I can see this easily appealing to are Eurovision fans, and entries in the past aimed pretty unashamedly at us (Your Je ne sais quois, your What About My Dreams) have at least had contemporary elements chucked in there too to make them sound like they were composed in the last decade and to win over voters outside of us loons. Now, don't get me wrong - that it is entirely uncontemporary is a big part of the appeal of Crisalide. But let's not kid ourselves. This is really going to struggle to appeal to a voting audience. If Valentina can't win over the juries - and that's a big ask, though I've no doubt she'll put on a show to be proud of in trying - then she's history, and San Marino's going down with her. Back up top. I cannot for the life of me understand why so many people are predicting Malta to not go through - it's a simple, sweet song effectively performed, and this sort of thing has a big track record of doing well in at least getting out of semis (not so much on doing well in the final itself, but that's besides the point here). Malta proved last year a lack of neighbours isn't always enough of an obstacle either, and I can see this doing well with juries and televoters - unfortunately at the expense of Iceland a couple of songs later, who go for the whole sweet rousing thing as well. I think both can and will make it through, but if one's going to miss out I think it'll be Iceland in a slightly less accessible package - Ég á lif is one of my big favourites this year, but I reckon the native language could hold it back a little and it'll possibly need the juries. Finland has the only big full-on pop anthem in here with a track that sounds a little like Katy Perry or Pink at their most novelty - big pop tends to do surprisingly decently well with juries in the semis, contrary to how you'd expect (Eleftheria/Ukraine 2012, Sweden and Estonia 2011, Jedward in both), and in a package as memorable as this I reckon Krista should be through, though there is the potential this could be divisive enough to lose out with some juries (and don't bank on her to do well if she actually gets to the final either). Israel has the only big female ballad in this semi (not counting Val for obvious reasons), but will probably be relying more on jury support than televoting as with Milim in 2010. I wouldn't be surprised if this went out, but I reckon it's more likely that she'll get through as this is really well performed - after all, if Estonia could, what's to stop this? The borderlines are a little more difficult. Though I don't think most people watching have a long enough memory to recall that Elitsa and Stoyan are basically doing Voda redux here, I don't think the juries would've taken to them quite as well as the televoters did had they been about in 2007, and in a more competitive semi-final in terms of variety I think this could leave enough juries cold under the new voting system to possibly lose out narrowly. Hungary's track is very much the sort of thing that will either finish bottom or take off in a big way tonight, but it's not the most accessible of tracks and I reckon it's a bit too subtle to get through. And Romania? Well, big and mad late on isn't a guarantee of getting through - just ask Serbia and Montenegro. I think this will end up being very, very divisive when it comes down to it, but it's very either way, and whatever the result I won't be surprised by how this does. There are just as many examples for either side for the whole countertenor popera fusion thing doing well or badly at the semi-final stage - I'm A Joker and Illusion on the failure side, Cvet z juga and La voix on the success side (although you could of course fairly point out that the latter two being done by women made that sort of thing far more culturally tasteful to most viewers). When it comes down to it, I reckon the last two spots will be a dogfight between Iceland, Romania and Bulgaria, with Israel possibly losing out as a result. 01 Georgia 02 Norway 03 Azerbaijan 04 Greece 05 Switzerland 06 Malta 07 Israel 08 Iceland 09 Finland 10 Romania - 11 Bulgaria 12 San Marino 13 Armenia 14 Macedonia 15 Albania 16 Hungary 17 Latvia

May 16, 201312 yr For me I'm hoping for: 01 Latvia: PeR - Here We Go 02 San Marino: Valentina Monetta - Crisalide (Volá) 03 Macedonia: Esma & Lozano - Pred da se razdeni 04 Azerbaijan: Farid Mammadov - Hold Me 05 Finland: Krista Siegfrids - Marry Me 06 Malta: Gianluca - Tomorrow 07 Bulgaria: Elitsa and Stoyan - Samo shampioni 08 Iceland: Eyþór Ingi - Ég á lif 09 Greece: Koza Mostra & Agathon Iakovidis - Alcohol Is Free 10 Israel: Moran Mazor - Rak bishvilo 11 Armenia: Dorians - Lonely Planet 12 Hungary: ByeAlex - Kedvesem (Zoohacker Remix) 13 Norway: Margaret Berger - I Feed You My Love 14 Albania: Adrian & Bledar - Identitet 15 Georgia: Nodi & Sophie - Waterfall 16 Switzerland: Takasa - You and Me 17 Romania: Cezar - It's My Life Azerbaijan or Georgia for a shock exit please.
May 16, 201312 yr I gotta say that if Krista kisses a woman on stage I am going to vote for her even if the song is super crappy.

May 16, 201312 yr I gotta say that if Krista kisses a woman on stage I am going to vote for her even if the song is super crappy. The performance will be super amazing. She's a personality but doesn't try too hard.

I can see Latvia doing a Lithuania in a shock qualification. And I still hope Romania fails. Malta and Iceland remain borderline. Also, people are going crazy for Bonnie Tyler (of course). Last night the Big 5 performed at the Eurovision Village and everyone chanted "BONNIE BONNIE BONNIE!". Hopefully there's a repeat on Saturday night and the UK wins **daydreaming** :w00t: Edited May 16, 201312 yr by Vülker
May 16, 201312 yr I want: 01 Latvia: PeR - Here We Go 02 San Marino: Valentina Monetta - Crisalide (Vola) 03 Macedonia: Esma & Lozano - Pred da se razdeni 04 Azerbaijan: Farid Mammadov - Hold Me 05 Finland: Krista Siegfrids - Marry Me 06 Malta: Gianluca - Tomorrow 07 Bulgaria: Elitsa and Stoyan - Samo shampioni 08 Iceland: Eyþór Ingi - Ég á líf 09 Greece: Koza Mostra & Agathon Iakovidis - Alcohol Is Free 10 Israel: Moran Mazor - Rak bishvilo 11 Armenia: Dorians - Lonely Planet 12 Hungary: ByeAlex - Kedvesem (Zoohacker Remix) 13 Norway: Margaret Berger - I Feed You My Love 14 Albania: Adrian & Bledar - Identitet 15 Georgia: Nodi & Sophie - Waterfall 16 Switzerland: Takasa - You and Me 17 Romania: Cezar - It's My Life Albania and Iceland would be great as well, this is a good semi. Even Latvia I wouldn't mind that much (don't look at me like that). Only one I really don't want getting through is Romania. I think this will happen: 01 Latvia: PeR - Here We Go 02 San Marino: Valentina Monetta - Crisalide (Vola) 03 Macedonia: Esma & Lozano - Pred da se razdeni 04 Azerbaijan: Farid Mammadov - Hold Me 05 Finland: Krista Siegfrids - Marry Me 06 Malta: Gianluca - Tomorrow 07 Bulgaria: Elitsa and Stoyan - Samo shampioni 08 Iceland: Eyþór Ingi - Ég á líf 09 Greece: Koza Mostra & Agathon Iakovidis - Alcohol Is Free 10 Israel: Moran Mazor - Rak bishvilo 11 Armenia: Dorians - Lonely Planet 12 Hungary: ByeAlex - Kedvesem (Zoohacker Remix) 13 Norway: Margaret Berger - I Feed You My Love 14 Albania: Adrian & Bledar - Identitet 15 Georgia: Nodi & Sophie - Waterfall 16 Switzerland: Takasa - You and Me 17 Romania: Cezar - It's My Life Starting to get fully prepared for Valentina to miss out, actually. It would be a shame if she does but whether it can cross over to enough people I don't know.
May 16, 201312 yr I'm most likely going as well if Emmelie wins YAY official Buzzjack meet-up #2. I just bought her album in the shop :P there were loads of posters outside the shop advertising it too! They also had Bonnie Tyler's new album! my best purchase was 15kr for Freja Loeb's album, that's like £1.50!
May 16, 201312 yr I gotta say that if Krista kisses a woman on stage I am going to vote for her even if the song is super crappy. Russia are not voting in Semi 2 AWKS. :(
May 16, 201312 yr Realistically, only Macedonia is dead in the water here. San Marino & Romania will have a really mismatched vote on the jury/public split and under the new system that'll pull them down to 11th and 12th. (I'll be sad for San Marino but if it means Bulgaria & Iceland go through, then that's for the best!)
May 16, 201312 yr These are the ones I want to qualify: 01 Latvia: PeR - Here We Go 02 San Marino: Valentina Monetta - Crisalide (Volá) 04 Azerbaijan: Farid Mammadov - Hold Me 05 Finland: Krista Siegfrids - Marry Me 06 Malta: Gianluca - Tomorrow 08 Iceland: Eyþór Ingi - Ég á lif 10 Israel: Moran Mazor - Rak bishvilo 13 Norway: Margaret Berger - I Feed You My Love 15 Georgia: Nodi & Sophie - Waterfall 12 Hungary: ByeAlex - Kedvesem (Zoohacker Remix) Past Norway, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Finland I'm not really fussed about this semi. San Marino and Malta would be nice, but I can take or leave them. This is what I think will qualify: 01 Latvia: PeR - Here We Go 04 Azerbaijan: Farid Mammadov - Hold Me 05 Finland: Krista Siegfrids - Marry Me 06 Malta: Gianluca - Tomorrow 07 Bulgaria: Elitsa and Stoyan - Samo shampioni 09 Greece: Koza Mostra & Agathon Iakovidis - Alcohol Is Free 10 Israel: Moran Mazor - Rak bishvilo 13 Norway: Margaret Berger - I Feed You My Love 15 Georgia: Nodi & Sophie - Waterfall 16 Switzerland: Takasa - You and Me
May 16, 201312 yr SO difficult, these are those I THINK will go through... 01 Latvia: PeR - Here We Go 02 San Marino: Valentina Monetta - Crisalide (Volá) 03 F.Y.R. Macedonia: Esma & Lozano - Pred da se razdeni 04 Azerbaijan: Farid Mammadov - Hold Me 05 Finland: Krista Siegfrids - Marry Me 06 Malta: Gianluca - Tomorrow 07 Bulgaria: Elitsa and Stoyan - Samo shampioni 08 Iceland: Eyþór Ingi - Ég á lif 09 Greece: Koza Mostra & Agathon Iakovidis - Alcohol Is Free 10 Israel: Moran Mazor - Rak bishvilo 11 Armenia: Dorians - Lonely Planet 12 Hungary: ByeAlex - Kedvesem (Zoohacker Remix) 13 Norway: Margaret Berger - I Feed You My Love 14 Albania: Adrian & Bledar - Identitet 15 Georgia: Nodi & Sophie - Waterfall 16 Switzerland: Takasa - You and Me 17 Romania: Cezar - It's My Life I think San Marino will do well with the juries, and will barley scrape through. I'm very unsure about FYR Macedonia, Bulgaria and Iceland, I think any of those could easly be replaced by someone else. Greece might take a Turkey and flop, I do hope so! I would love to see Iceland and Finland through, and I think they will. I am 99% sure that Norway, Georgia and Switzerland will go sailing through. But this is Eurovision, anything can happen. I will be really nervous when the results are in, I know how Norway can be favorites but total FAIL... Tooji, Stella Mwangi, Didrik Solli-Tangen...
May 16, 201312 yr WANT 01 Latvia: PeR - Here We Go 02 San Marino: Valentina Monetta - Crisalide (Volá) 03 Macedonia: Esma & Lozano - Pred da se razdeni 04 Azerbaijan: Farid Mammadov - Hold Me 05 Finland: Krista Siegfrids - Marry Me 06 Malta: Gianluca - Tomorrow 07 Bulgaria: Elitsa and Stoyan - Samo shampioni 08 Iceland: Eyþór Ingi - Ég á lif 09 Greece: Koza Mostra & Agathon Iakovidis - Alcohol Is Free 10 Israel: Moran Mazor - Rak bishvilo 11 Armenia: Dorians - Lonely Planet 12 Hungary: ByeAlex - Kedvesem (Zoohacker Remix) 13 Norway: Margaret Berger - I Feed You My Love 14 Albania: Adrian & Bledar - Identitet 15 Georgia: Nodi & Sophie - Waterfall 16 Switzerland: Takasa - You and Me 17 Romania: Cezar - It's My Life Any chance of the jury slaughtering Greece? No? OK. :(
