I've been looking to put together a new website based on the UK indie scene pre-Britpop for some time now and I've finally got round to registering the domain name independia.co.uk for it.

 

I'm looking to put together a huge encyclopedia of pretty much every single UK indie single from The Smiths' Hand in Glove to Oasis' Some Might Say. A lot of content I can pick up automatically from various sources e.g. Youtube video but I will need good content about each single, at least a paragraph of well-written background on each. Anyone fancy getting involved? If even just to write about certain groups?

 

Ok, it'd be a bit much to do every single single, but let's do the main ones...

Is this strictly indie?- I'm not sure my knowledge would be up to it but I'd be happy to dissect New Order/The Cure.

Yes, I kinda need to set some boundaries, so it's strictly indie releases.

 

That means New Order up until the end of Factory and The Cure from when Fiction was independent - which probably covers the best times for each band!

Are you setting musical boundaries as well? After all, Steps qualified for the Indie Chart :cry:

Ha ha...yeah. I guess it'd be mainly guitar music with notable exceptions in, say, The KLF, The Shamen or Nitzer Ebb. I'd include Erasure but not Kylie. It's pretty open, just let me know what you'd like to cover and if I think it fits then it's in!
