.... i just dont get this genre... its supposed to be 'emotional' is it not?.. but it just is no different to hundereds of other rock based songs and is nowhere near as emotional as 'soul'.

so wtf is it all about? weedy guys crying?

to me (an oldie) it smacks of a unimaginative attempt by some feeble minded kids who are desperately trying to forge their own identity.... as far as im concerned, they failed. older people i know just laugh at the patheticness of it, as we have seen better 'emotional' music, these dim kids just havnt a clue...

I agree there. No offense to any emos like </3 but it all started off as an attempt to seperate yourselves from goths and.now.you.often.write.like.this.x and the i.heart.name stuff is really quite tiresome.

Emos will be gone in a few years. :smoke:

Oh yeah I wholeheartedly agree. I'm only 16 and even I have heard more 'emotional' songs than the current emo wave.

But yeah it's just like many of these trends that come in and out, they start off trying to segregate themselves and make a name for themselves but then they catch on and in the end they're not original at all as there are thousands of people all portraying the same image. It's extremely silly.

I well miss old proper old Emo music, but now it's all "Funeral For A Friieeeend" and they're about as Emo as I am Jim Davidson =[...or something.

It's all about Sindie nowadays B).

whats 'proper' emo music? ive never heard anything that can compare with the blues as portrayed by the likes of hendrix, clapton, mayall...etc, then theres soul before it went all caberet... stevie wonders singing 'i was made to love her' is possibly the most emotional track ever...

Like, Sunny Day..., The Promise Ring and early Jimmy Eat World was where it was at!

And I agree with Lucy obv. Haha. But yeah nowaday's this Emo lark is more about the distorted rhythm or something.

"Emo" started out in the early/mid 90s actually and was a shorthand for "Emotional Hardcore", kinda stemming off from bands like Fugazi and earlier Boston underground bands like Husker Du/Bob Mould. Jimmy Eat World is a fairly good example of what an Emo band originally was about, At The Drive In are good as well. See also stuff like Weezer, Sebadoh, etc.... The likes of Robert Smith are a huge influence and an inspiration to many in the original Emo scene

Emo as it is now is just a load of Pop Rockers dressing up in black and wearing smudged make up and moaning about how their girlfriend doesnt understand them.... We'd probably be calling the likes of sodding Busted or McFly Emo if they dressed in black....

im not impressed by weezer, i cant recall much of the other bands mentioned, how do these 'emotional hardcore' bands stand up against 60's blues bands like john mayalls bluesbreakers? or hendrix?

The Darkness, Lost Prophets now this? EMO SUCKS DICK!

songs like SOAD's "Roulette", Stone Sour's "Bother", Metallica's "Fade To Black" etc etc are alot more emotional than this bucket of cat $h!t.

load of girls screaming down a mike that nobody cares for them, well i dopn't give a ****. :)

what a great place to vent some anger ^_^

Cant argue with the sentiments there mate... Emo as it exists now is the most pathetic, whiny bucket of pish that has emerged from the whole "Alternative" umbrella scene, and for all the bands' talk about how people like Robert Smith are such an 'important influence' on them, well, they seem to have totally missed the point of what Bob was trying to do...

But in a way I'm glad Emo exists, because now at least everyone's calling those tragic little 14/15-year old 'My Chemical Romance'-type cases who hang around Camden Market on a Saturday afternoon Emo Kids now and not Goths like they very much mistakingly used to.... It got to the point when I was just plain embarrassed to be a Goth because of these bloody silly little kids...

McFly don't scream or shout though do they? So even if they were wearing black they're still just pop.

Why exactly do emos like McFly?

The older stuff like At The Drive In and JEW was better by a mile than the newer stuff but theres still some new ones that are sexual.

so wtf is it all about? weedy guys crying?

Oh and that statement is pretty ignorant for someone thats was always defending goths when I go on about their stereotypes

Well, they dont really. The "Emotional Hardcore" music stems from a love of US Hardcore Punk (Black Flag, Bad Brains, Anti-Flag, NOFX, Dead Kennedys, etc) and British Indie bands like The Smiths, The Fall or The Cure and trying to fuse the two things together. Et voila, you get Husker Du, Jimmy Eat World, AFI or At The Drive-In when it's at its best, not buckets of whiny, kiddie pish like MCR, Tokio Hotel and their ilk.....

I think you misinterpreted Rob, he was merely asking a question, not really making stereotypes....

I think it's pretty obvious it's not about 'weedy guys crying.'

It's about nobends all trying to look the same with the same generic haircut and spray on jeans, quite frankly 90% of emos are c**ts and they're not even emo, most of them are just scene kids who are going to abandon it when the next new craze comes along.
