December 21, 200717 yr To me Emo is just another media 'label'. No different to labelling some bands 'punk' and others 'metal' or 'grunge' or whatever. I actually rate some of the bands that are labelled as Emo. Jimmy Eat World are a fantastic sounding band who just seem to play good ole' rock n' roll. My Chemical Romance are likewise an excellent band and Black Parade sounds more like 'Iron Maiden' than any other 'Emo' band I've heard. Merry Christmas !

December 22, 200717 yr It's sad what emo is being used for nowadays. =/ It used to be short for emotive hardcore way back when and used to describe amazing bands like Rites of Spring. It's completely changed now.
December 22, 200717 yr Music that is classed as 'emo' nowadays is not emo at all...I haven't read this whole thread but I am sure somebody agrees with me. The oldschool emo music was actually quite good, but the $h!t that is put out now is just....BLAH.

The oldschool emo music was actually quite good, but the $h!t that is put out now is just....BLAH. think its like all the modern American Punk bands - (disneypunk??? dumbasspunk???) from reading parts of some books about the punk scene in the 1970s - its looks like even tho they might have the image - they have missed the point of why punk is imporant - and just distilling it down to some dumb pub-rock-metal. however was good to see in the great punk tunes book - this bunch of arnacist-squat dwelling skanking types listed as one of the essential tunes. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/54/Scrittimercury.jpg
February 8, 200817 yr I thought Emo was just a way of people expressing themselves. Personally i don't see the problem, if its going to help misunderstood teens get through some hard times then whats the problem? Its just a type of fashion, the clothes, make up, bands, its no different to any other trend, so why do people choose to insult emo's because they are something different?
February 18, 200817 yr emo whatever. its like when alanis morrisette and oasis turned alternative music from being not on the radio into a certain sound of music. thats what emo is. it is supposed to mean emotional like alternative was supposed to mean alternative to radio. its jsut a word that we use to describe things that are similar because we need to catogorize things.. all music is emotional.. doesnt mean all music is emo
February 26, 200817 yr I hate stereotyping so much. Why does it matter what type of music you are into? Or how you dress? Why do people feel the need to judge other people, and just brand them with a label whether it's goth, emo etc. It just irritates me, and what is it with saying all Emos cut themselves? Oh come give me a break! That is so lame. Bit off-topic but that's my opinion.

The same thing with some of these so called 'Indie' bands <_<
