Posted May 19, 201312 yr Daft Punk really get lucky with a 4th week at #1 There is just no shifting the French dance duo Daft Punk from #1 as their huge smash hit Get Lucky remains at #1. The track has now sold over 100k copies for all of those 4 weeks, the last track to stay at #1 for 4 weeks was Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen (selling just under 100k in week #4). Daft Punk’s new album is due for release this week so a 5th week is extremely likely. This track features Pharrell Williams, as does forthcoming release Blurred Lines by Robin Thicke. That track is looking likely to go to #1 when released, meaning Pharrell may well replace himself at #1. Some distance behind but still on the rise is Passenger’s Let Her Go, climbing to #2 this week. Demi Lovato - Heart Attack enters at #3 This week’s highest new entry in at #3 comes from 20 year old US singer and actress Demi Lovato. In 2008, Demi first came to prominence as an actress / cast member of Camp Rock. From the soundtrack came her first hit single This Is Me, which made the US top 10 but only #33 in the UK. In the following years, Demi managed another 2 minor UK top 40 hits – La La Land (#35) and Skyscraper (#32). Now she scores her first major hit single with Heart Attack as it debuts at #3, taken from her forthcoming album entitled Demi. Wretch 32 feat Shakka – Blackout enters at #6 28 year old London rapper Jermaine Scott Sinclair blacks out with the excitement of getting another top 10 hit as Wretch 32. After a few underground grime hits and remixes, Wretch first broke through when he was in the BBC Sound Of 2011. If was in 2011 that he released his debut mainstream single Traktor which made #5. This was followed by a #2 single Unorthodox, alongside fellow UK rapper Example, which sampled Fools Gold by the Stone Roses. Then also in 2011 came Wretch’s first #1 Don’t Go, featuring vocalist Josh Kumra. 2 further minor hits followed – Forgiveness and Hush Little Baby (featuring Ed Sheeran). Now Blackout enters at #6, as the lead single from his upcoming third album and 4th top 10 hit. Sub Focus feat Alex Clare – Endorphins enters at #10 UK record producer Nick Douwma has been making music since 2003 under the name of Sub Focus, and this week gets his first UK top 10 hit. He didn’t get his first UK top 40 hit until 2009 when Rock It / Follow The Light made #38. This was followed by 2 #41 singles Could This Be Real (yes it could be) and Splash (which didn’t). Then last year Out Of The Blue got him to #23, featuring vocals from London singer songwriter Alice Gold. Then he made #12 with Tidal Wave, which features London duo Alpines. Now he hits #10 with Endorphins alongside Alex Clare, who scored a huge #4 hit in 2011 with Too Close. Stooshe – Slip enters at #12 UK girl group Stooshe get a fourth hit single as they slip in at #12 this week with their new single. The girls first came on the scene last year with top 5 debut Love Me, which was quick to drop out. However #3 hit Black Heart had rather more staying power and proved to be a big seller for the girls. That was followed up with a rather poorly received cover of TLC’s Waterfalls, which only limped in at #21. This week they enter at #11 with Slip, taken from their much delayed forthcoming debut album. Olly Murs – Dear Darlin' enters at #18 UK singer Oliver Stanley Murs first came to our attention when he came second in 2010’s X-Factor competition. The following year, he hit #1 with debut single Please Don’t Let Me Go and #4 with Thinking Of Me. 2 minor hits followed from his debut self titled album. Then came his 2 huge #1s Heart Skips A Beat and Dance With Me Tonight, followed by #13 Oh My Goodness. Last year, he released his third album and scored another huge #1 single with Troublemaker. The #12 peaking Army Of Two was his last singles chart appearance, peaking just 9 weeks ago. Dear Darlin’ now becomes Olly’s 9th top 20 hit out of 10 releases to date. Not bad for a runner up! Mariah Carey feat Miguel - #Beautiful climbs to #27 US superstar singer songwriter Mariah Carey gets another top 30 hit in the UK this week, as Beautiful climbs to #27. The 43 year old superstar debuted back in 1990 with the first of her 24 UK top 10 hits, Vision Of Love. These hits include 2 #1s Without You and Against All Odds (with Westlife), as well as the likes of I’ll Be There, Dreamlover, Hero, Fantasy, Always Be My Baby, Through The Rain and We Belong Together. Last seen in the top 40 in 2009 with her #19 cover of I Want To Know What Love Is, she is back with #Beautiful. This heavily features US songwriter and producer Miguel who has his very first UK top 40 hit with this. Rod Stewart tops the album chart Leading a group of 4 major new entries in this week’s album chart is 68 year Rod Stewart with Time. He becomes the oldest singer to get a #1 album with original material, his first original album since 1998 and first #1 album since 1979. Behind Rod at #1 is the debut album from Gabrielle Aplin entitled English Rain, featuring #1 hit The Power Of Love, Please Don’t Say You Love Me and Panic Cord. Alternative indie band Vampire Weekend come in at #3 with their 3rd album entitled Modern Vampires Of The City. ABBA of course famously won the Eurovision song contest with Waterloo, now Agnetha Falskogg gets her first solo top 10 album entitled A, in at #6. Scots rockers Primal Scream make their comeback this week as their new album More Light enters at #12. Well I wonder who will have next week's #1 album ... Daft Punk or Daft Punk! Opinion I am very happy to see Daft Punk get another week at #1 and actually have some staying power at the top rather than the usual 1 or 2 weekers. I love Get Lucky, whilst not being a fan of Daft Punk's previous work. I'm not that keen on Demi Lovato's new song nor Wretch 32's, however both are far better than their respective previous output (that's not saying much). Endorphins is not bad really, just quite average to my ears like most of the work of Sub Focus. Stooshe's Slip is not nearly as good as Black Heart but far better than that awful TLC cover and the equally awful Love Me. Olly Murs new song on the other hand is brilliant and easily one of his best, not quite on par with Army Of Two and Troublemaker though, I do like most of his 3 albums so far. Tich's Dumb is just that and Birdy's dull version of People Help The People can just fly away and make way for the great Cherry Ghost original. Good to see Rod get another #1 album, Caro Emerald's and Gabrielle Aplin's albums are great, however Agnetha's is absolutely brilliant and should have been #1.
May 19, 201312 yr Agnetha's Album, is not only her 1st UK Top 10 Solo Album, but it also stops ABBA from getting a 458th Week in the Top 75. Gold has to be content to be at No.76, this Week. (It will likely be in the Top 75 next Week). It is The Number Of The Beast, for ABBA, this Week - Gold's 666th Top 100 Week..... QUESTION - It has taken Agnetha almost 30 Years to have a Top 10 Solo Album, in the UK. (Her first UK Solo Album, Wrap Your Arms Around Me, entered the Charts in June 1983). Can anyone tell me which Act has taken as long - or longer - between their first Hit Album, & their first Top 10 Album? MAINSTREAM FEMALE SINGERS WITH THE MOST UK TOP 10 ALBUM WEEKS By entering at No.6, Agnetha instantly becomes the Mainstream Female Singer, with the Most UK Top 10 Album Weeks. In October 1976, his previous No.1 Studio Album - A Night On The Town - replaced ABBA's Greatest Hits at No.1. In December 1979, his previous No.1 Album - Greatest Hits - replaced ABBA's Greatest Hits Vol.2 at No.1 The ABBA Album then returned to No.1 - displacing Rod - on W/E 12th January 1980. So, until this Week, - W/E 25th May 2013 - Rod has not been at No.1, in the UK Album Chart, since W/E 5th January 1980. Edited May 20, 201312 yr by zeus555
