That Lene album was simply brilliant - I think there was only one song I didn't like - I think it was the final track. Maybe I'll Go was stunning.

In 1981, Alan Jones, (in 'Record Mirror'), called the 12" 'Lay All Your Love On Me', poor value for money. It

was really just a 7" Single, (version), on expensive 12" Vinyl. The Book of 'NME' Singles Charts says it was

extended, but it wasn't.

Alan Jones predicted that its price, & poor value, would stop it being as big a Hit as it would have been on 7"

He was right. It stalled at No.7. It deserved to get a lot higher than that. But, the format was pointless, & the

Single was twice the price of every other Hit in the Charts. ABBA did not want it to be a Single, anyhow. Which

is why they never made a Video for it.

The Single was only released in few Countries. Just as in May 1978, several Countries got 'Eagle' as a Single, and

the UK & Ireland, just had a long gap, between 'Take A Chance On Me', & 'Summer Night City' - no 'Eagle' inbetween.

I didn't know that was only a 12" single and regarded as 'poor value for money'. I always thought that it did badly (by their standards) because it felt very different from the normal ABBA sound and probably scared away many of their regular fans. I must admit sales of 208k for a track that went 17-{7}-9-14-24-28-66->7 (yes, copied from Polyhex!) seems incredibly high.

Includes downloads as well but yes sales in the early 80s were notoriously good.

I'd forgotten about downloads, was merely thinking of sales 'at the time'. That said, this is hardly one of ABBA's better known tracks, in fact I think it's relatively obscure. I wonder how many downloads it's sold.

The early 80s were good for sales, a lot better than the late 80s, but the late 70s (78/79) were surely a lot better.

Yes I believe that 79 was the peak year for singles sales (89 million) until the current digital era when downloads saw sales annually over 100 million

41. FASCINATION- Alphabeat (254,000)

YEAR: 2008

PEAK POSITION: 6

WKS ON CHART: 30

One of only 4 tracks to spend 30+ weeks on the chart debuting at a lowly No 64 position. Used in a coke ad in some EU countries certainly didn’t harm, a trick that might helped with the poor performance of the second album if they had been able to get the gig a second time around.

PEAK POSITION: 3

WKS ON CHART: 17

Spending its first 9 weeks in the top 10 was a rare feat in the fast charts of 2003 and rarer still for a record which didn’t make the top 2. The duo split in 2008 having only contributed one further hit to the charts but “Move Your Feet” remains one of the tunes of 03!

'Move Your Feet'

Would definitely rank inside my top 10 singles of 2003 if I ever got round to compiling such a list.

The highest placed hit on this countdown NOT to make the top 10. A song created to promote a new “Absolute ” drink there’s a nice healthy slice of promo in the video itself.

Deserved a MUCH higher peak than #13.

Greyhound  It finished 2nd in my end of year countdown of 2012, admittedly since then it's gone down in my rankings of 2012 songs but still a fab tune.

Move Your Feet was one of my favourite songs at the time, hasn't aged too well though - I'm surprised it's so well liked on this forum.

'Greyhound' in the top 40 :cheer:

'Move Your Feet' is fantastic as well.

Greyhound and Move Your Feet!

'Lay All Your Love On Me' had sold 21,000 UK Downloads by May 2010. In 1980, I knew many ABBA

Fans who thought it was one of the best Tracks on 'Super Trouper'. But, when it came out as an

expensive 12" Single in 1981 - not even extended - several ABBA Fans, I knew refused to buy it.

It really was regarded as a rip off. (One ABBA Fan, I knew, went to buy it in her lunch hour, &

came back without it. She called it a 'con job', & no way was she paying double the price of a normal

Single for it, when it was not even extended. So ABBA really shot themselves in the foot, with the

stupid way they released that Single!).

So, the Track itself was fine. It was how it was released that put a lot of people off buying it.

ABBA never did understand such matters. In 1980, Epic Records had tried to stop Bowie's 'Ashes To Ashes'

rising from 4 to 1, & knocking 'The Winner Takes It All' off the top spot. They rush released a 12" version

of 'TWTIA', in a Gatefold Sleeve. But, they wanted £3 for it, & it was not even remixed or extended. It was

even more of a con than the 12" 'LAYLOM' in 1981. Needless to say, Bowie went to No.1, & the poor value

ABBA 12" did not stop 'Winner' falling from No.1 to No.2.....

Three INCREDIBLE songs in a row there! Move Your Feet is quite a nostalgic song and it could easily still be a hit today. I loved Fascination so much at the time, it was so quirky, bright and not really something I expected to be a hit. Shame nothing else they did had the same charm to it.

I think I've grown to prefer Greyhound to Don't You Worry Child. It sounds amazing on a workout.

I like the track but it always did strike me as being rather 'un-ABBA like'.

£3 is the equivalent of £10.91 today, that's outrageous for a single!

But if the regular price of a 7" single was £1.50 back then that's still over a fiver in today's money.

Makes you think just how cheap our 99p downloads are.

I never pay even that much - try 79p on Amazon as standard...
