What happened to Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men? I'm pretty sure it should have appeared by now but can't remember seeing it

Edit: Sorry, found it, I was expecting it to be higher but realised sales only go up to 2012, ignore me

27. FROM PARIS TO BERLIN- Infernal (348,000)

http://img301.imageshack.us/img301/483/parisnx0.jpg

RELEASED: 2006

PEAK POSITION: 2

WKS ON CHART: 23

Plugging away in their homeland since 1997 they hadn’t troubled the UK until this track in 2006 which was only denied the top spot by Gnarls Barkley. Some sales were generated by an “alternative” version of the song for the World Cup that year entitled “From London to Berlin”, less successful was their follow up “Self Control” a cover of a track taken to the top 10 by Laura Branigan in 1984.

I was interning at their UK label at the time this came out, and we were having a conversation about how important "the plot" is for Europop records released in the UK. They said how you needed to bend the truth a bit about how well it had done in Europe, e.g. say it was #1 in 12 countries when it had only been #1 in 3 or 4. I pointed out it hadn't actually been #1 anywhere and they had to check and they were quite shocked to see how it hadn't really done that well at all!

Freestyler seemed to come out of nowhere for me, I bought an album called Fresh Hits Vol.1 and it was on there about a week before it was released on single and I thought 'what on earth is this, are they expecting it to be a hit?', and then next week it smashed in at #2

Loving From Paris To Berlin too, pretty impressive sales for the appalling sales era of 2006, especially for a non #1.

Freestyler was and still is pretty good. 7 Seconds is wonderful. I much preferred Self Control to From Paris to Berlin.
Freestyler just takes me back to the summer of 2000 instantly :D Remember loving it from the moment I heard it, no idea it was Finnish at the time though, I assumed it was some British guy as it sounded almost-but-not-quite like a 2-step garage song which were everywhere back then.

23. MIAMI 2 IBIZA- Swedish House Mafia Featuring Tinie Tempah (407,600)

YEAR: 2010

PEAK POSITION: 4

WKS ON CHART: 20

Such was the great year that Tinie Tempah had had in 2010 that this was became his lowest charting single from four releases. Not so for SHF who went three places higher than debut hit “One” and actually outsold that track.

22. LOVEFOOL- The Cardigans (418,000)

RELEASED: 1996/97

PEAK POSITION: 2

WKS ON CHART: 17

Having finally dented the top 30 with “Rise & Shine” in early 96 the Cardigans returned with a third album later that year with this as the lead single which entered at no 21 but then dropped like a stone. They knew they had a good track though and the vital push occurred by its inclusion in the Baz Luhrmann film “Romeo + Juliet” which saw the re-issue and eventual peak in the runners up position.

'Freestyler' was massive across Europe. Probably the biggest hit across Europe for the whole of 2000 I'd reckon. No surprise that Bomfunk MC's are pretty much one hit wonders. Back then, we still had the old Sky TV channels including many German channels. VIVA (Germany's answer to MTV) played most of their other tracks too but then again Bomfunk MC's seemed to be fairly popular there.

21. THE SUN ALWAYS SHINES ON TV- A-ha (432,000)

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_uB-0D-gV8mY/SYSDZIGp60I/AAAAAAAATG4/DSeQU9RYbag/s400/a-ha.jpg

RELEASED: 1986

PEAK POSITION: 1

WKS ON CHART: 12

As the title implies it’s a song about the power of television to inspire and to influence people’s lives, it also became the only UK No 1 single for A-ha. With a promo which followed on directly from the “Take On Me” video it was actually filmed in St Alban’s Cathedral here in good old blighty.

In a way it's a shame 'Take On Me' missed out on #1 whilst 'TSASOTV' benefitted from being released off the back of a massive UK hit, and also being released in the dry patch for new releases better known as January.

That said, it stills sounds solid with the big drums and synths. A-Ha were ahead of their time, it's one of those songs that wouldn't have been out of place in 2009.

"The Sun Always Shines On TV" & "Lovefool" = classic.

"Miami 2 Ibiza" doesn't deserve to be that high... I always seemed to be the only one who hated it when people raved on about it 3 years ago.

"Freestyler" was absolutely MASSIVE that summer in Europe. I was in Austria earlier that summer and remember it being #1 for about 5 or 6 weeks. I played it way too much that summer and it was one of the first songs to spend 5 weeks at #1 on my personal chart. :P

That said, it stills sounds solid with the big drums and synths. A-Ha were ahead of their time, it's one of those songs that wouldn't have been out of place in 2009.

Hurts' earlier singles sounded like a mix of A-Ha with Johnny Hates Jazz yet they sounded like nothing else out at the time.

The Sun Always Shines is such a monumental song - prefiguring the huge It's a Sin from PSB. As amazing as Take On Me is. I prefer TSASOTV.
.. and the famous Matt Morgan quote about TSASOTV, was that he thought that the song was literally written about that annoying thing where the sun rays at a certain time of day shine onto the television so that you can't see whats on. :D

Another act who has recently returned with new material, this track is of course by some stretch his biggest hit. He does however outsell anything his half sister put her voice to.

19. IT MUST HAVE BEEN LOVE- Roxette (450,000)

http://i43.tinypic.com/qsnpnd.jpg

RELEASED: 1990/93

PEAK POSITION: 3

WKS ON CHART: 22

A song that started off with the parenthesis “Christmas For The Broken Hearted”, it was written for the German market of 1987 but wasn’t released in the end apart from in their native Sweden where it went top 5. In 1990 the group were contacted for a track to appear on the “Pretty Woman” soundtrack, busy touring they hadn’t the time to write anything new so they altered the lyrics slightly and gave this song to them- another US No 1 single it was a top 10 all over again in 1993 following the terrestrial premiere of the film in the UK.
