81. PROPER EDUCATION- Eric Prydz Vs Floyd (122,000)

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/_/223672/Eric%20Prydz%20vs%20Floyd.jpg

YEAR: 2006

PEAK POSITION: 2

WKS ON CHART: 10

Having plundered the 80s for his last hit it was the turn of the 70s for Prydz who overhauled Pink Floyd’s 1979 chart topper “Another Brick In The Wall” for a No 2 hit. The original meaning of the song (highlighting the rigours of the education system) was turned on its head for the video where it’s those pesky kids who are in the know and educated the adults.

80. SEEK BROMANCE- Tim Berg (122,000)

YEAR: 2010

PEAK POSITION: 13

WKS ON CHART: 9

Before taking his stage name of Avicii, Tim Berg had a hit under his own name and followed in Prydz’s footsteps by segueing together a couple of tracks for this hit. His own instrumental track “Bromance” was combined with the vocals of Amanda Wilson who had performed on some Freemasons hits of the mid 00s and went on to record “Love U Seek” with DJ Samuele Sartini.

The (incredible) Safri Duo song was part of the Eurovision 2001 medley in Copenhagen where they performed it with Aqua. Only in Denmark.

Can't wait to see what they come up with for next year's interval!

That trio of dance songs  Especially Seek Bromance.

Proper Education is by far my least favourite of the three big Prydz hits, so great to see that Pjanoo (and obviously Call On Me) are higher than it.

I absolutely detest Proper Education but, that aside, it's been a good run over the past couple of page. Be Mine! and Dancing On My Own are obviously highlights for me but really like Safri Duo, A-Ha's I've Been Losing You and Play Dead too.

79. CRYING AT THE DISCOTHEQUE- Alcazar (123,000)

Taking some 18 months to cross the North Sea to the UK this has to be the campest tune that 2001 had to offer (not easy in a year when Geri Halliwell did “It’s Rainin Men”). Based extensively on Sheila & B Devotion’s 1979 track “Spacer” which was produced and written by Rodgers/ Edwards the guys behind Chic.

78. ALMOST UNREAL- Roxette (124,000)

Penned originally for the film “Hocus Pocus” (hence the lyrics) it wasn’t used on that soundtrack only to end up on the “Super Mario Brothers” film much to Roxette’s displeasure. It still did the trick chart wise becoming their last top 10 (bar a re-issue of “It Must Have Been Love”).

77. STAY ON THESE ROADS- A-ha (125,000)

From Roxette’s last stop 10 hit to A-ha’s last top 10 hit....for 18 years anyway. This was the eponymous track to their third album and looked a sure fire No 1 when it sprinted from 18-5 in its second week only to retreat thereafter, the album made it three out of three No 2 placements upon release.

As much as I love 'Almost Unreal' I don't think the song suits 'Hocus Pocus' at all, just because they say hocus pocus in the chorus -_-

Debuting at No 1 in Denmark and spending 11 wks there in total it’s safe to say they made quite an impression with this track. Another track held back for a January release it wasn’t quite such a big hit here and truth told I’d forgotten about this until this rundown but it’s bloody great!

This make people go mental in a club and rightly so. I played it on Friday in my first ever DJ set.

"Crying At The Discotheque" is still marvelous... showstopping Swedish pop at its' finest.

"Stay On These Roads" is a hauntingly beautiful song too... "Almost Unreal" is good too, much better than the film it's associated with.

Another lead track here, this time from Aqua’s second album “Aquarius”. It became the biggest selling single of 2000 in their native Denmark (narrowly beating DJ Aligator (No 87)) but overall the second album failed to launch in the UK and by the end of that year the groups chart days were behind them.

Drawing inspiration from such classics as “Star Wars” and “2001: A Space Odyssey” for the promo this is the fourth biggest hit from the group. The parent album “Gran Turismo” is by far their best selling album and sent the band global- 80s popstar Sabrina covered this track in 2008 in an “interesting” move on her part.

74. REAL GOOD TIME- Alda (135,000)

YEAR: 1998

PEAK POSITION: 7

Apparently she’s still making music, but Alda (or Alda Olafsdottir as she is known fully) was a only really a popstar for about 6 months in 1998 with two top 20 hits “Girls Night Out” and this one “Real Good Time” .

Alda's good fun but Erase/Rewind is the gem there, absolutely brilliant. Nice to see the almighty Alcazar too, shame Stay The Night was never pushed here!
