I would say that they probably aren't allowed to broadcast it on the Red Button but I don't know for sure. I can see them putting the semi-final we don't have to vote in on the Red Button though, maybe the other semi will go on BBC Four as that will still be available?

I think they are obligated to broadcast the one we have to vote in (so semi 2 in that case) on a bbc channel but I think they can put the other one on the red button.

Obviously the ideal is have all three shows on BBC1 but that'd be too simple/unrealistic.

This was my first thought when I heard the news.

Semi we vote in on BBC2 and the one we don't on BBC4 or 2 or NOTHING. :hitler:

Seriously, both semis must get enough of an audience to justify being on terrestrial TV rather than just online? I'm not sure the public would know a huge difference between the one we vote in and the one we don't.

According to the EBU rules, the semi that the country are performing/voting in must be broadcast live. The other semi is optional.
I'd be surprised if they didn't just whack it on BBC Two. What ELSE is on that could get over the ~1-1.5m that the semis normally pull in on BBC Three?
Anyone else going to the Preview Party on April 13th? For the first time, I'm FINALLY going this year! Mainly because I'm definitely not now going to Copenhagen due to a huge lack of funds.

I might go yeah. Not going to Copenhagen either because of the same and no cheap rooms left in the city. Also, no one to go with and I was in Copenhagen last year anyway.

Who's singing at the Preview Party? Any names yet?

The acts from Switzerland, Malta, Austria and Montenegro are confirmed so far.

Armenia and Macedonia (Warning! Tijana seems like a potential QoL) were confirmed yesterday/this morning too.

Yay for more! Nay for most of the countries confirmed so far!

Can Sanna please haul herself over to London!?!

I wanted to go to this but up to now only terrible entries have been confirmed ha. Poland is good but the others...! hmmm if Sanna shows up then i might buy a ticket + i've heard the Romania are likely to take part too.
Azerbaijan/Russia have a HUGE opportunity to win again this year, even an 8/10 song would be better than all but about 3 songs confirmed so far! At the moment Sanna is the overwhelming favourite, which just seems bizarre, as much as I love her!

I don't see Sweden winning, as slick and professional it is, I just don't see it as a winner or at least a runaway winner.

This may get a few laughs, but I think Malta will be the big dark horse this year.

I'm at a loss as to how Sweden completely lost their Eurovision mojo between 2007-2010 (The Ark, Malena and Anna were huge niche genre misfires) but I'm glad that they're back on track now, sending the high quality massive pop songs that they've always been known for. As long as Sanna goes top 10 I'll be happy!

The general Eurovision quality has taken a bit of a nosedive for me in the past few years. Practically every song in the 2009 final was amazing, and since then a lot of countries just aren't putting the effort into sending memorable, standout songs. I know we have this discussion every year and it all seems fine in the end once we've let the tracks grow on us and heard the final versions, but I long for another year like 2009 where everyone sends a great song at the same time.

2008 was better.

But I do agree with what you're saying. I find that every 3 or 4 years there's an average contest with not much to shout about it. 2014 is gonna be one of those years.

I aggree about Malta! BuzzJack will obviously hate it but I think it could well give them one of their best results ever.

Top 3? I don't see this happening. It's very Portugal 2009 / Belgium 2010 with a dash of hipster and with Icelandic budget.

"Fairytale", "Is It True ?" are great. Maybe we can add "It's My Time", "La Voix", "Et s'il fallait le faire" in this list.

But many very bad songs were in the final : Be My Valentine, Hora Din Moldova, Jan Jan, Mamo, Always, This Is Our Night e.t.c.
