June 26, 201312 yr This is a BIZARRE day at Wimbledon. I don't remember ANY injuries last year, now it's almost reached double figures in one day. And even several seeds who managed to stay uninjured are getting beaten; bottom half of the women's draw now looks unrecognisable.
June 26, 201312 yr Murray vs Djokovic final looks set then. They're by far the best two players on the tour currently, and their focus must surely be even more now. Makes for a bit of a damp week and a half, you'd be surprised if either of them lost a set. Maybe Del Potro will take a set.
June 26, 201312 yr I don't think I've ever seen such a strange opening 3 days at Wimbledon before. Nadal out in the first round, Federer/Sharapova in the second. Multiple injuries of top seeds. Serena must have been sitting in her hotel room rubbing her hands with a huge grin.
June 26, 201312 yr I don't think Federer will retire until he wins one last Slam. The greats don't like to go out on a low-point -- Sampras struggled for years late on in his career but was determined that he would go out on a high, so he kept going until he finally won a final Slam and then retired immediately afterwards. I expect Federer to do the same.
June 26, 201312 yr Author Once they're on the decline most players don't have that luxury. Look at Venus. She will never win another slam. If Roger can't this year, I would say he never will.
June 26, 201312 yr Really shocked at Federer and Sharapova crashing out today although the latter can have erratic form to say the least. I still think that Federer should continue to reach quarter and semi-finals for a couple of years, maybe the odd final but perhaps he will retire soon, rather than tarnish the legacy too much. Serena will almost certainly win the women's but there should definitely be some 'WHO?' type names making it to at least the quarter's this year in both the men's and women's. Hewitt is hilarious to watch and I'm gutted that he went out so soon, although the German/Jamaican guy that beat him looks like a star of the future (both on and off the court). He sweats more than anyone ever, watch any Hewitt match and he rubs his face with his sweat band or shirt after EVERY movement. Even if the other player chucks the ball into the net and he's not had to do anything it's enough of an excuse for Hewitt to break into a mass sweat

From the looks of him he's a good player, probably better than his ranking suggests. But from his interview it's clear his mentality isn't the strongest. Hope I'm proved wrong as he seems very humble and proud, and the victory clearly meant everything to him, but I don't think he has the mental toughness.
June 26, 201312 yr Once they're on the decline most players don't have that luxury. Look at Venus. She will never win another slam. If Roger can't this year, I would say he never will. Venus is a special case though because of her illness which means she physically can't produce the tennis that she used to be capable of. Federer still does occasionally put on genuinely great performances (he looked flawless just in his 1st round match at this tournament), it's just he can't consistently produce it day in day out anymore. His days of consistently playing world-beating tennis at tournament after tournament are behind him, no doubt about that, but I'm fairly sure he can atleast muster up one last fortnight of great tennis in order to win that last Grand Slam. I mean it has only been a year since he last won one.
June 28, 201312 yr Another fantastic win for Laura! Apparently she has the next round of the doubles this afternoon and then her 3rd round match tomorrow, so she's very busy!
June 28, 201312 yr Another fantastic win for Laura! Apparently she has the next round of the doubles this afternoon and then her 3rd round match tomorrow, so she's very busy! If she wins tomorrow she'll have enough points to crack the top 30 and could be a seed by the time the US Open starts!! :o
June 28, 201312 yr Robson looks to have a great shot of making it to the Qtrs! There are no seeds left in her section of the draw. Although she'd probably play Serena Williams in the QFs if she did get there, so that would be the end of that.
June 28, 201312 yr Author Robson can at least get to the fourth round but it wasn't a brilliant performance today.
June 29, 201312 yr Robson through again, she staged a pretty good comeback there though, I thought it was all over for her at one point, although winning round 4 will also be a challenge if she doesn't up her game. But yay, that was a very tense last hour.
