Congratulations are due to PJ Harvey who has been awarded an MBE in the Birthday Honours List. It may be a bit of a journalistic cliche but it is safe to say that it never occurred to me that this might happen in the days when I went to see her play in the backrooms of London pubs in the early 90s. She may not have sold anywhere near as many records as Adele (who was also awarded an MBE) but it is good to see her being recognised in this way.
