The Voice UK contestant Leah McFall hit the Top 10 of the Official Singles Chart last weekend, with her live version of I Will Survive reaching No.8.

According to Official Charts Company data seen by Music Week, the track has shifted close to 54,000 copies to date - making it by far the biggest-selling record to be connected to the UK show in its two-series history.

With the final of The Voice UK set to take place this Saturday, McFall's I Will Survive is continuing to perform well, sticking at No.11 on today's Official Midweek Sales Flash ahead of Sunday's final chart.

Looking back to the last series of The Voice, the biggest-selling record to emerge from the show was Tyler James' single Worry About You. Released in February this year on Island Records and featuring rapper Kano, it reached No. 38 in the chart and has sold close to 37,000 units to date. Another James single, Single Tear, has sold 25,292.

Last year's Voice UK runner-up Bo Bruce has the best-performing album so far, with her Before I Sleep selling just over 20,000 copies. Her highest-selling single is a track performed on the show, Kate Bush's Running Up That Hill, which has sold little over 11,000 - around a fifth of McFall's I Will Survive.

If you combined all the single and album sales of the winner of the first series of the Voice UK, Leanne Mitchell, they're still nowhere near McFall's overall record sales haul.

Mitchell's self-titled LP has sold just over 1,400 units according to Official Charts data. Her best-selling record is her initial single, Run To You, which has shifted 9,920. Another single, Pride, has sold just over 2,000.

One other track from Leah McFall performed on the show, a cover of Roberta Flack's Killing Me Softly, has sold 2,390 and sits at No.37 on today's Midweek Sales Flash in its second week on sale.

The live final of the second series of the Voice UK airs this Saturday evening on BBC One, decided by a public phone vote. McFall will go up against fellow finalists Matt Henry, Andrea Begley and Mike Ward.

This just makes me gutted for all the series 1 finalists. They could have shifted a load of single sales if they had studio versions of all of their live show performances released.

It's also really quite sad that a cover that was probably recorded as quickly and cheaply as possible by Leah has sold more copies than any of the singles/albums that were promoted with music videos, radio interviews, advertisements, and had a lot more work on them in terms of song-writing and such. But hey, that's the way it goes.
