With the Glastonbury effect i was not expecting Olly Murs to even have a chance of top 10 again this week, ever so happy he stayed in.

 

Poor ole Saturdays, just when they finally got the number 1 this happens, their career is so ups and downs. They are one of those groups that in years to come id describe them as "they never really made it in the end" and i explain, every album they release i seem to think "oh they will dropped after that performance" and the performance of gentleman wont that that for the upcoming album.

This is Olly's longest running top 10 album - now on its 11th week top 10, compared to just 4 for 'Olly Murs' and 9 for 'In Case You Didn't Know'. Could well get at least another 2 weeks to match those two put together.

A song that entered the chart in 2013 finally reaches the top 10 in the singles longevity chart. Still a while before that happens in the albums, as 'Babel' has only just got in there as it returns to #1 in its 41st week in the chart.

 

Random thing I noticed when typing this update up - before last year no acts with the word 'Moon' in their name had made the album chart ever, but Half Moon Run are the third since 2012, following Rocket Juice & The Moon's #85 album and Willy Moon's #75 album. WALK THE MOON also had a #82 single last year but a) they haven't charted an album and b) there was a previous 'Moon' act in the singles chart, one 'Nylon Moon' that has a #43 single in 1996. Willy Moon had a hit single as well of course, the only release by a 'Moon' act to make the top 40. Fun.

I love The Saturdays but frankly I'm not surprised by "Gentlemen" failing to make the top 10 . It's a grower but in my opinion probably one of their worst singles. I wonder what kind of damage control will be done to recover. I hate to say it they should of stuck with the formula that gave them their first number 1 single

Babel has a new peak for Mumford & Sons but as well as the obv Glasto effect the radio 1 rotation of the song has helped a bit - its alisted and played every 2/3 hours!!
