Cops' alcohol warning to Robbie fans

ROBBIE Williams fans arriving in Glasgow for this weekend's shows have been warned not to drink on the streets.

The singer will play at Hampden tomorrow and Saturday to sell-out crowds of 55,000.

Police today welcomed fans to the city - but warned them to behave.

Chief Superintendent Robin Howe, head of policing for south Glasgow, said: "We are expecting a maximum capacity of 55,000 fans each night.

"However, due to the sheer volume of people attending, I would urge fans to make their way to the stadium in plenty time for the show.

"On this occasion, alcohol will be on sale within the stadium, but it should be noted that there are by-laws in existence prohibiting the drinking of alcohol in the streets outside.

"Beer and wine will be on sale within the stadium. But I would urge people to drink sensibly.

"We will have a full policing plan in place to ensure everyone's safety."

The concerts, featuring support Basement Jaxx and Orson, mark the start of a five-month tour for Williams .

The gigs had sparked controversy because Saturday's date clashed with Scotland's first Euro 2008 football qualifying tie, which would have been played at Hampden.

The SFA was forced to find an alternative venue - Celtic Park - for the clash with the Faroe Islands.

Stadium gates at Hampden will open at 4pm and directions and traffic information is available online at www.strathclyde.police.uk

I hope your headache has gone by the morning Jupiter, and have a brilliant time and fingers crossed the weather is not going to spoil the party.

Give him a big warm Scottish welcome. The Hampden Roar isn't it..I recall him saying something about that in 2001.

I think our man needs to feel the love at the moment.

Tickets warning for Robbie Williams fans

Hundreds of Robbie Williams fans will be turned away from his concerts at Hampden Park, Glasgow, tonight and tomorrow because they bought stolen tickets, police warned last night.

They said a total of 560 tickets had been cancelled by the gigs' promoter and anyone turning up at the venue with one would be denied entry and asked to explain where it was obtained.

A police operation will be mounted at the turnstiles for the Falkirk and Dunfermline areas, and officers will be able to spot stolen tickets coming through.

It is understood genuine purchasers did not receive their tickets and agent Ticketmaster and promoter DF Concerts contacted the police. An inquiry is under way into the theft.

Chief Superintendent Robin Howe, who will be in charge of security at the concerts, said: "It is likely that the tickets have been sold on to unsuspecting fans who will be hugely disappointed as these tickets have been withdrawn by the promoters and are no longer valid.

"It is believed that about 380 tickets for the Friday concert and about 180 for the Saturday, all originally destined for buyers in the Falkirk and Dunfermline areas, may have been stolen. All tickets are for the seated areas in the stands."

A spokesman for DF Concerts said: "We are extremely vocal in warning music fans not to buy tickets from unofficial outlets. These concerts are sold out and any fans who have taken a risk here will be disappointed. We are working with the police very closely on this."

More than 55,000 fans are expected at the National Stadium each night. Those who did not receive ordered tickets should still be able to get in, provided they can prove their identity. Further information is available from Ticketmaster on 0870 1690100.

Hope you have a brilliant time Jupiter.

You are probably queueing in the rain as I type this :D Can't wait for your report.

POP star Robbie Williams is to be presented with a special souvenir of his sell-out Hampden concerts.

Around 110,000 fans will be at the Queen's Park ground tonight and tomorrow to see their idol in action.

To mark the visit, Irn-Bru - the main sponsor of the third division club - will present the star with a Queen's Park away shirt.

Mark Jephcott, of Irn-Bru, said: "Robbie is a big football fan and we hope he will be pleased with his shirt and also offer his support to a Scottish side."

Thanks everyone.
