MONTY MAKES ROBBIE GIG DASH

By Mark Garrod, PA Sport Golf Correspondent, Munich

Colin Montgomerie moved into contention for another golf title in Munich on Saturday - and then dashed away to a Robbie Williams concert in Glasgow.

Montgomerie was in a rush the moment he holed his final putt for a third round 66 and 12 under par total.

"People say I'm mad, but I'm on stage at 9.30pm with the Ryder Cup. I'm not singing, don't worry," said the Scot.

The private jet was due to bring him back to Germany by around 1am, after a round trip of 1,730 miles.

Less than an hour earlier, on the other hand, Ryder Cup team-mate Padraig Harrington announced he was abandoning plans to go to the Republic of Ireland's match with Germany in Stuttgart - just 135 miles away.

The reason was that he, like Montgomerie, had given himself an opportunity to win.

After firing a 64 for the same 12-under aggregate, the Dubliner commented: "If I'd scored 80 I'd have gone - and probably to the player party afterwards.

"I think I'll probably try to find an Irish pub to watch it. Unfortunately when you're doing well at a tournament you don't travel around the world for two hours.

"These are the side-effects when you're in contention. You have to be disciplined and go to bed early and all that stuff."

The Ryder Cup on stage with Robbie.

The terribly heavy rain we've been having today has stopped. It seems to be drying up.

Looking a lot more hopeful for the people going to Robbie's Hampden concert tonight.

thanks for your fantastic report Jupiter :cheer:

I will be rolling out my 'Scotland loves Robbie' flag next week for Leeds.

I just new Hampden would be a fantastic place to see Robbie. I hope Leeds and MK fans will be just as great for him.
