August 7, 201311 yr omg I'd have totally gone to see this if not for the doll. I most likely AM going to see it so I'm going to tear my boyfriend's arm off during the first 5 minutes. and I will need to bring new pair of pants too. Ok. Taking the next flight to 666, Hell street, Hell. Is it where you reside in? Yeah, see you soon x
August 10, 201311 yr So it wasn't as scary as I thought. The only bit where I jumped on my seat was that bitch on the closet. Crazy to think the whole thing was based on the real story! The doll tho :( SO creepy.
August 16, 201311 yr Thoroughly disappointed with this, having had such good reviews on Rotten Tomatoes and with so many positive comments on here and elsewhere. I didn't find it scary at all and none of the jumps were very frightening at all, I also found the music so over the top that it ruined any potential frightening visuals into complete silliness. I even would go as far the say that 'The Woman In Black' was a scarier ghost story at a 12A.

It's the best horror film I have seen in a long, long time, especially with the new wave of physiological horror films. It wasn't particularly scary (Annabel aside) but I thought it was really jumpy and creepy. You actually warm to the characters and don't want to see them die. The ending is nice, even though it's not what you're expecting! It takes all the traditional horror cliches, but still manages to create a fluid and thoughtful film.
August 17, 201311 yr Really enjoyed this. Just what i want from modern horror - the right mix of good nostalgia with some cutting edge stuff too. The scene when the photos smashed on the stairs and the subsequent basement bit in particular was TERRIFYING and some of the best i've seen in a horror film for ages. Could not cope! Left a bit cold with the ending though. I think i've been conditioned to expect so much more so this was just a bit... oh. All in all getting the hype and definitely had me squealing throughout. And Pav let's not front. I HIGHLY doubt it's close to being "based on a true story" in any stretch of the imagination
October 21, 201311 yr Finally got round to seeing this recently. Some nice touches and the first 3o mins is really well done but after the Warren's come into the house I found it began to lose its momentum and what had been clever tweaks on familiar territory became a bit tired. Also became rather disappointed to discover it was demons and exorcisms again and not a traditional ghost story. Certainly one of the better horrors of recent years but not quite a classic although I really liked the endings reference to the Long island haunting that the Warren's are called on to investigate - AKA The Amityville Haunting. Sequel (remake) n the cards perhaps? And for those doubting its relation to actual events, this - 'The Conjuring' IS based on a 'true story'…our story. However, the film is not based on my trilogy 'House of Darkness House of Light'. It is, instead, based upon the case files of Ed & Lorraine Warren. ... There are liberties taken and a few discrepancies but overall, it is what it claims to be — based on a true story, believe it or not. -Andrea Perron (in a Letter to Horror-Movies.ca, June 2013) So it all depends on whether you believe the Warrens and the Perrons.
October 21, 201311 yr I was really hyped when I watched this film, but it was a let down. I love a good horror, and had I gone in with low expectations (like I do with every other horror film), I think it would have been amazing. Despite this, it's still one of the best recent horror films. Great experience!
