July 23, 201311 yr No 'lowest rates' being included? Probably for the best, it would just be my name repeated. :D Everything so far is awful. "National Anthem" or "Summertime Sadness" need to win but I'd settle for "Ride".
July 23, 201311 yr Author 21 MILLION DOLLAR MAN AVERAGE RATING: 6.39 "It isn't that hard boy, to like you or love you; I'd follow you down, down down. You're unbelievable." http://i42.tinypic.com/atlv1w.png The first song to surface from the original standard version of 'Born To Die', 'Million Dollar Man' has been rated as your fifth least favourite track, just missing out on the top 20. I find it very difficult to criticise this track because I really love it, but maybe it's not as instant as the others. Her vocals are a little monotonous on it however, the rich smokey tone to them really helps the song out IMO. Once it grows on you, it will not leave your head. Lana tells the story here of the troubles of trying to love someone who is screwed up but appears all round perfect at the same time, and it isn't straight forward as you can imagine. This track has a very retro 60s vibe to it, and although some have rated it as a low point of the album, the sombre mood and themes of struggling to deal with romantic love are as free-flowing as the waterfalls of emotion throughout the album. People have commented that the live versions of this song are much better than the studio, which have helped them like it a lot more. July 23, 201311 yr Author No 'lowest rates' being included? Probably for the best, it would just be my name repeated. :D I can include some at the end, I have the spreadsheet with all the scores on so won't be too much hassle. :)
July 23, 201311 yr Author 20 BURNING DESIRE AVERAGE RATING: 6.45 "I drive fast, wind in my hair, I push you to the limits 'cause I just don't care" http://i44.tinypic.com/9fzate.jpg Just scraping in the top 20 is a song that is perhaps one of her least well known. 'Burning Desire' was penned for a Jaguar commercial and was released exclusively on iTunes for the iTunes edition of Born To Die: The Paradise Edition. The video features Lana singing in a large hall wearing a red dress, being completely alone. Lyrics in the song also speak of feelings of being alone and isolated with such lines as "Have to touch myself to pretend you're there" but also a massive desire to love somebody who perhaps doesn't show the same desire back. It does seem very average in lyrical content and style for Lana but that doesn't stop it being an enjoyable listening now and again. Another track to not receive a single '11' vote, but with the of the exceptionally high quality from the overall album, perhaps that's not surprising. zx_dTSPzXlk TOP RATES: 10 J▼hnkm 9.5 Calum Sandé

July 24, 201311 yr Author 19 DIET MOUNTAIN DEW AVERAGE RATING: 6.52 "Diet Mountain Dew baby New York City, never was there ever a girl so pretty. Do you think we'll be in love forever?" http://i41.tinypic.com/izxhd1.png 'Diet Mountain Dew' is the the next song in the countdown at number 19. It is the fifth track on the 'Born To Die' album, and the first song to appear in the countdown named after a drink; 'Cola' is still yet to come. 'Diet Mountain Dew' is quite light in tone with a vocally tickling chorus. Catchy or annoying, I'm sure you'll all make your own minds up. It does lighten things up after 4 quite heavy tracks but perhaps it just feels a little too different and out of place. Much like 'Yayo', it appeared to be a marmite track amongst raters, but to a lesser scale. Either way, it is refreshing, just not enough so to completely quench your thirst, just like a bottle of Mountain Dew. yGKZd8IeROE TOP RATES: 11 Calum Sandé 10 Luciano Edited July 24, 201311 yr by cookie_monster
July 24, 201311 yr Author 18 RADIO AVERAGE RATING: 6.55 "Lick me up and take me like a vitamin, 'cause my body's sweet like sugar venom" http://i43.tinypic.com/554dwh.jpg Next up is another track from 'Born To Die'. 'Radio' lurks in the latter part of the album and contains lyrics about fame and love. It speaks openly about how fame not only acts as increased attractiveness, but also as a reward for working hard. "Nobody even knew how hard life was" shows how love and fame have made the persona feel content and more comfortable with the direction life is taking. Although the song is performed frequently live, Lana sometimes swaps performing it for another track. The chorus is great and though sounds miles apart from the verses, the high vocal chorus is repeated many times towards the end which is where the song is let down I think. However, as a body of work, it tells a good story not dissimilar to something Lady Gaga might sing herself. However, it did fall short to the top half of the tracks in the rate! uVGAcbMUJfQ TOP RATES: 10 Cal 9.5 CallumTheSats4

July 24, 201311 yr Author 17 LUCKY ONES AVERAGE RATING: 6.75 "Everybody told me that love was blind, I saw your face and you blew my mind" http://i42.tinypic.com/2hwn38x.png 'Lucky Ones' is the second track to appear so far, from the deluxe edition of the standard 'Born To Die' album. Although it is similar in sound to some other Lana tracks, the lyrics speak very positively of a relationship, perhaps the most positive (without being ironic) from the whole album. The lyrics appear to be speaking of meeting someone who is head and shoulders above everybody else and having the opportunity to get to know them better/ be in a relationship with them. It didn't reach lofty heights in the countdown, but bonus tracks regularly seem to peak lower in rates. Personally I find the bridge to be a lot better than the rest of the song, which I find is slightly lacking that Lana spark. 3qTRQx_jkKE TOP RATES: 11 J▼hnkm 9 vidcapper randomfurlong
July 24, 201311 yr Diet Mountain Dew so low? What are you all on? It should be at least top 10, it has enough quirk in it to stand out even in a discography this strong.
July 24, 201311 yr WHAT EVEN at Lolita so low?! Expected though, I swear I'm the only person on earth who loves it. Glad Diet Mountain Dew was fairly low, although I do like it. I thought it was more loved than that though!
July 24, 201311 yr The original of Diet Mountain Dew is fairly standard, its this remix that really makes it: aJBVYgbCVqw As for who will win this, I'm supporting Video Games.
July 24, 201311 yr I find 'Lucky Ones' quite grating at times, so I'm not bothered by its low placing. 'Radio' is far too low though. :(
July 24, 201311 yr Author 16 CARMEN AVERAGE RATING: 6.89 "Darling darling, doesn't have a problem, lying to herself 'cause her liquor's top shelf" http://i41.tinypic.com/2iabrle.png Next up is a very tragic and sad tale about a girl named 'Carmen'. There are themes of homelessness, alcoholism and even hints of prostitution. Lana has never confirmed who Carmen is about, but it is knowledge that she suffered from alcohol dependency at a young age. The lyrics are very poetical yet sharp in technique, leaving a chilling feeling. It is very surreal because the vocals are very dreamy but unnerving at the same time. The reason why this might have not finished higher in the top 15 is because it isn't as instant or catchy as other numbers on the album. The rates provided were a lot more positive than I thought they'd be, it's nice that a few others have made a connection with this. 'Carmen' did receive a home made music video, Lana Del Rey style! The track was rumoured to be the third single from 'Born To Die' however it later surfaced that 'Blue Jeans' was in favour. vzxqOQXBFoI TOP RATES: 11 Cal 10 Mariah Scary Rabbit Heart vidcapper
