August 3, 201311 yr Mark Goodier was the first presenter I heard, think it was November 1999 after I'd spent most of my childhood listening to Neil Fox when he did the commercial radio countdown. I thought he was great and he sounded like he cared about the chart with the facts and the build of tension leading up to new entries and the number 1, and i thought Scott Mills did a great job when he would cover! I was gutted when he left in 2003, I had a funny idea the way things were going to go... Wes was ok, I remember hating the fact that the chart began with a top 20 album countdown before the top 40 singles chart and then skipping certain songs. I don't remember that much about his presenting or if he did anything to annoy me but I can't remember! Though I remember wishing Scott Mills would do it! JK and Joel I thought were ok but they weren't really focused on the chart it kind of turned into a bit of a joke! The one thing I do remember was that they skipped a new entry from Richard Hawley and there was a lot of controversy but again I don't really remember much about them as presenters. I'm not going to bother commenting on Fearne and Reggie its already been said on here but this was awful, i believe this was the point where every text said 'i want xxxx to be number 1 cos theyre fit' and other anal comments! I think they just didn't care about the chart but at the time it was quite static and we stopped getting those 15 new entry weeks that we had prior to 2007(?) I couldn't bear to listen to them on their own shows let alone together! Jameela, nice enough but FAR too many mistakes! Each quarter of the chart could be completed within 45 minutes but if they insist on having the live section in order to help reduce the age of the audience then please get a guest in every week because it is torture having to listen to her try and spread the show out and the recap sections are all over the place, the stupid competition that takes WAY too long...the quality and production of the show has gone downhill so much that I only listen if its a good week or there's a big battle for number 1 otherwise I just follow the chart on here!
August 7, 201311 yr Tommy Vance: I only know him from a few shows he did in the early 90s but I really enjoyed them! I was listening to his Chart Of 1991 only last week. He had a really cool jock's voice and made some funny quips. I noticed he made several slip ups though as previously mentioned. Bruno Brookes: My love affair with music began at some point in 1993 or 1994, and I started renting cassettes from the local library for 25p - mostly dance compilations! I didn't discover the charts for several months, when one day my Dad told me about it and suggested I listen to it on Sunday. The first one I listened to was the week Whigfield went into number one. I was hooked! So I just caught Bruno's last six months, and because he was my first he has to be the one that I will always love the most. He did shout a lot but he had the best chart voice of everyone and I used to be amazed at how quickly he did the chart recaps. I think the beds and stings they used for this period were by far the best - I loved the way the show flowed and it never feels like three hours. I was very sad to see him go. Mark Goodier: Took me a while to get used to Mark - I didn't like the new sounds to the show they used in 1995, though the ones used from 1996 onwards were better. In retrospect Mark was actually a better presenter - he gave more information than Bruno, particularly when introducing new entries, when quite often Bruno wouldn't even tell you the name of the song! When I listen back to old shows now it's really interesting to hear some of the later shows from 1999 onwards - I agree that he started to sound bored and the show lost a lot of energy. Wes Butters: Was it really just his accent that was more annoying than anything else? JK & Joel: I really couldn't bear these two at the time but I warmed to them towards the end - one of them even said on their last show that his radio idol was Bruno Brookes, and it made me wonder if they'd have been better if they were allowed to just play the top 40. Fearne & Reggie: I used to really like them on Top of the Pops so I was pleased when they got the gig initially, but they dumbed down the show even more and Fearne could barely count backwards from 40. Jameela Jamil: I was initally optimistic because I liked her on the Request Show, but she is totally wrong for the Chart Show. She just doesn't seem to care very much and she doesn't have any sound of authority in her voice. It's just too chatty and I hope she doesn't stick around too long.
August 7, 201311 yr Unpopular opinion: I kinda liked Reggie by himself. I think Jameela can be a bit annoying because she makes too many mistakes.
August 8, 201311 yr TBH I have never listened to the Official Chart... I listen to the Vodafone Big Top 40 instead because theres no 9 minute gaps between songs! But then again, at least the O.C. plays all 40 songs instead of skipping anything with Kanye West in it. Nuff said.
