January 22, 201411 yr Me too but I can't realistically see that happen. They need the money to finance a move for a striker, be it this window or summer. This could sway the deal for Rooney if they go for him. And finally Man Utd are not a risk to Chelsea anymore, but they still have the chance to take points off their title rivals. Plus Mata will want to leave because he's not playing and his World Cup place is possibly at risk now. Just don't think Mata is the type of player they need. Moyes didn't rate Barkley, passed signing on Ozil and can't play Kagawa. Hope Mata's good at running aimlessly. I think Mourinho realises that in the long term United will be a threat again, and Chelsea never need the money.
January 22, 201411 yr I think Mourinho realises that in the long term United will be a threat again, and Chelsea never need the money. They need the money to get through the FFP though. Don't ever think they'll be title contenders again under David Moyes. Said that in the summer, still say it now. Just doesn't have the mentality to be winner.
January 23, 201411 yr Author I guess Mata to Man United is HAPPENING. Surely this must be linked to Rooney joining in the summer? Regardless of Man United's current position, I can't see why else Chelsea would be so willing to strengthen a rival especially when Mata could help in the title push

Regardless of Man United's current position, I can't see why else Chelsea would be so willing to strengthen a rival especially when Mata could help in the title push Plus they've just made a huge big for Salah. The problem is Mourinho and Chelsea must be convinced Man Utd will not be a significant threat to them with or without Mata, and to be honest I can see that. A signing of Mata's caliber is needed cos they've not going to win the title, have little chance of getting Top 4, and look unlikely to win the CL.. although stranger things have happened.
January 23, 201411 yr I still think it's dangerous long term because United are still United. They still stand a chance of top 4 with a squad that doesn't really merit it and all sorts of signings are being talked about for the summer. If they don't make the top 4 NEXT season I'd be shocked.

All the talk is PR talk though. Realistically they will have Mata, but Rooney will be gone. They have a chance for Top 4, but I'd be surprised if they got it without winning the Champions League. They'd need Liverpool, Everton and Spurs all to slip up, and take points off them in the process. Again, stranger things have happened, but they're just an average team at the moment. If they get rid of Moyes they have a chance, but without him they'll rot. The comparisons with Liverpool from 1990 are eerily scary!

Yeah, I don't think they will get top 4 but my point is that they're in with a shout despite probably having a weaker team with Rooney and RVP missing than those around them. It's obviously all talk about transfers in the summer at the moment but even with three good signings I could see them comfortably in the top 4 next season. I'm not saying they'll be the players to go there but if for instance they bought Baines, Koke and a good centre back then they'd be in contention.

But realistically there's no chance they'll get Baines or Koke especially if they miss out on the Top 4. Baines looks like he's going to stay at Everton, and as good a player as he is, paying upwards of £20m for another 30 year old just doesn't have any value, especially for a club like Man Utd. It says so much that their best player this season has probably been Januzai. And as good as he potentially can be, his decision making at times is absolutely atrocious. I just can't see them doing anything with Moyes at the helm. I said it in the summer and everything that I thought would happen has happened - just at a far quicker rate! The guy is not a top manager. The longer Man Utd stick with him, the harder it will be for them to ever properly compete again.

Whether Moyes can take them where they want is another matter but I don't see why they can't attract top players from teams who aren't in the CL either (so maybe Koke was a bad example).
January 24, 201411 yr Author So Fergie thinks that there are 6 title contenders. Man City Chelsea Arsenal Man United Tottenham and Everton Spot the missing team
January 24, 201411 yr The man's a fruit loop. For one there's only three title contenders, and secondly if he thinks Man Utd have more chance of winning the title this season than Liverpool, then he's just been on the whisky again. Liverpool still get under his skin so much, it's hilarious.

February 1, 201411 yr Glad we won against carlisle today. We needed the points and even though we played poorly, im just so happy to be out of that bottom 4, although we need more wins. Wes burns is gonna be one hell of a player if he keeps progressing like he is. Wade elliott really didnt impress me though. Still, to the carlisle fan on here, beat you home and away now bud ;) onto the next and hopefully better performances with wins in the future from bristol city. Ctid
February 2, 201411 yr Thought you'd rub that one in thanks. Congratulations, hope we both avoid the trap door to League two. Looks like the home defence has gone away. Normally we can't get a clean sheet at home and had a few away this season, last two results have contradicted that.
February 6, 201411 yr Surprised nobody has discussed the Chelsea vs. Manchester City game. The match was a rather good match considering the score line was 1-0. Chelsea got their tactics spot on and thoroughly deserved to win. The last 10 minutes were incredibly nerve racking. I'm still not 100% sure how I feel regarding Willian - I think he's a good footballer but he's nowhere near as good as Juan Mata. I thought his decision making against City was rather poor - Hazard was the stand out.
February 6, 201411 yr This tactical "masterclass" from Chelsea is bullshit. They were lucky to be playing Man City without Aguero and Fernandinho. Arguably their two standout players this season. The match highlighted that Man City can be stopped as Liverpool showed a last year, but like most teams they're so much better with their best players. For me I still can't see past a Man City title win. Whilst Chelsea are good, their lack of a proper goalscorer hurts them, and I can see them dropping more points to teams that try to shut up shop against them.
February 6, 201411 yr I fully agree regarding Chelsea being lucky not being against Augero / Fernandinho. I think City have the title won this season but Chelsea's tactics were spot on. City in the midfield were bullied and outplayed - Fernandinho was missed for City though. Chelsea are in desperate need of a striker. Eto'o is off to Mallorca at the end of the season and I'm expecting Torres joining Athletico in the summer with Costa coming to Chelsea. However, I think Chelsea could potentially win the league next season - their attacking options / midfield don't need to be strengthened. I wouldn't mind a new CB and a new striker. I assume Demba Ba will also be sold and Lukaku will be provided with a chance.
