She never planned to compete with Katy? What crap?

Ok time out folks, let's play nice, if we can't address each other like adults and disagree in a constructive way then you all know what will happen.......

Bhangra was a thing over here years ago but it hasn't really been relevant over here since like... 2004?

It's still VERY relevant. The charts aren't the only means to measure relevance.

Bhangra music, despite how it sounds, actually started out in the UK I think.

Lol.

I don't know. I wasn't there when it started out. But I'd definitely say it's centered in the UK today.

Lol. Well it is prominent in the UK but fairly sure the population of Punjab and wider India is where it's actually centred and born out of.

Looking at the pop bars Katy Perry is slaying Gaga worldwide. Only a few markets where Gaga in number1. Generally she around 3-4.

Her plan to release and compete with Katy has backfired

If that's what you want to believe ok. Whereas in fact Gaga is currently the #1 artist worldwide with Katy Perry #6. Hate to compare but 'Applause' is #1 in 43 countries and 'Roar' is #1 in 17 countries. Both are doing extremely well and dominating everywhere which is what was expected.

Not sure when the theme of this thread became post absolute tripe and pass it off as fact.

Of course she did, you think this whole leak thing and pop emergency were coincidental?

The song didn't even leak in full....there was no need to rush it out.

Oh please. If Gaga wanted to compete with Katy, she's release on the same day as her. Snippets of the song and fake versions of the song were spreading like wildfire on monday and a few websites did have the full leak. It was also a great strategical move to rush release as it would get lotts of hype behind it. It has nothing to do with Katy, Gaga even tweeted about it. Katy even released early in the US, I'm sure she wanted to compete with Blurred Lines so so badly right?? :P

You do realise that both artists have openly said they support each other and they're laughing at the people who are arguing that they're competing, right?

Exactly!!!

Yeah. I thought Katy wouldn't stand a chance against Blurred Lines, but seeing her lead on iTunes I think she actually has a chance now.

You do know I was being sarcastic about the whole 'compete' thing?

Yeah I meant the charts, I can't speak for everything else but in terms of bhangra artists getting hits, it hasn't happened at least eight years.

You still haven't "ignore listed" me yet?

I didn't think Katy stood a chance at being #1 next week, I thought if she got there it would be climbing after a month or two. Depends how she holds up I guess.

I don't know when the last chart hit was, but there was the Freemasons remix to Work by Kelly Rowland did sound suspiciously like Mundian To Bach Ke (yes, I know it's not a bhangra song).

Any news on how Ellie is doing? Is she increasing or slowing down? Hoping she can get number 1

I think the last one I remember was Raghav's Angel Eyes. I still think it's popular, just not in the charts though!

the last 10 pages is just horrendous can we just have some time out, I don't think some members want to read some of the crap that has been posted. A bit of a turn off.

In 24 hours this thread has gone from 14 to 38 pages.........

Ellie holding on by more than 40% which surprises me, I hope she holds on!!

Yeah don't worry, I knew what you meant.

On a sort of related note though, there's one particular chart hit from this year that I feel has a Bollywood vibe to it.

Thank you,

Come on Ellie you can do it!!

And even more exciting, if nothing changes and all the tracks in the iTunes top 10 chart on Sunday there will be 5 (!!!!!) new entries and no Blurred Lines!! (until it climbs back in next week when The Wanted fall)
I'm sorry. :( I'm going to try to not talk about her anymore. But yeah, I tend to have a Lady Gaga melt-down every 6-8 months, so put me on your ignore list to be safe.

Sorry, but can you watch that video I posted please. Robin Thicke HIMSELF says that, it's not a statistic I made up.

And he counted all of the fans himself, right? Please don't be so daft. He's most likely saying that judging by who goes to his concerts or twitter followers or just random fans jumping out in the streets asking for his autograph.

Correct. He's made an estimation based on his experiences. It won't be exactly 90%, might be a bit more or a bit less. It will also have changed in the past few months for obvious reasons. :P

She has the number 1 in the bag, don't worry.

The big question is, when will 'Roar' be released?

Seems like we are the only country without Roar! Come on Katy. Lets hope its next week :)
