How can you tell that this whole era is going to be like that of Femme Fetale after the lead single has only been out a few days? That's not realistic that's just crazy, and this Gaga on album 3, with lots of hype and support behind her.

Well look how well it is performing on iTunes it to down to #3 already...and I am a GaGa fan i just think that the UK well a majority of the UK have moved on...

The thing is Only girl/We found love/Diamonds >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> BTW or Applause. Seriously Rihanna has really picked great lead singles the last 3 eras, it is not just down to her name (Rihanna has her fair share of 'flops').

Well it is GaGa's fault then...Applause is not very radio friendly...looks like she will miss out next week to with Sonnentanz claiming that number one spot then Katy after...she really needed another Pokerface, Bad Romance or Telephone....they all had something that Applause sadly lacks...

#Devastated, but I think so too :(

There was 0 hype about this before it was released. Now we know for sure why.

Don't even :cry::(

But I think you're right.

I can't believe t, her last single sold 60,000 in one day and now this!

If THIS single sold 10,000 first day, then what will the second sell?

A number 20 single and flop album would be disastrous for GaGa. Britney will never be dropped, just like Madonna wouldn't be, massive history and they can just keep trying. If it happens for GaGa, she would be almost irrelevant without the long history to back up a flop :(

Dunno how she's gonna recover from this, Rihanna stayed relevant from yearly releases, GaGa didn't and alienated a lot of people with BTW :( .

I think you need to calm down Michael. Gaga is going to be fine this era just watch. The whole idea of this era was for it to win over the casual listeners again after BTW and this won't happen over night with Applause as its OA/OS. And BTW had pre-orders behind it which is why its sales were so good the first week, Applause has had no pre-orders or airplay behind yet. Its doing just fine!

I don't think GaGa's album campaign is going to go quite down the pan in the same way Femme Fatale did, but I can realistically see her on the path to becoming a niche gay icon in the way Kylie and Madonna are now seen as if she doesn't pull her socks up.

Thats not a bad thing...I mean look at Kylie's albums recently Aphrodite got to #1 and ARS got to #2 Kylie has done BRILLIANTLY from her 25 years in music!

It's true though, let's be honest! 'Blackout' is one of my favourite female pop album of the 21st century, but 'Gimme More' was handled atrociously, 'Womanizer' was incredibly limp, 'Hold It Against Me' a few years on sounds very dated... 'Toxic' still stands the test of time and that's why she hasn't had a massive hit here in the UK since 2004 (don't even get me started on '3').

I seem to Think OA/OS releases dont do that well tbh :) there has only been a few situatons where it has been successful....Maybe she should have pulled a Miley/Katy for a UK release....wait a few weeks to get them momentum going and do some TV shows/Promotion in the UK then i would think it would have gotten the #1 very easy....

People are being blind-sided by 'Applause' going to #1 in all those tiny countries on Itunes, where very small sales are required to do so.

In the main markets, US, UK, Germany and Australia it hasn't done anywhere near as well. She could have released Applause next week and it still wouldn't have been #1, it is just not that good a song.

Yeah I'm with you there i think she has missed out big time with this song...She shouldnt have been bothered if it leaked i remember and artist saying before...i think it was Kelly Clarkson....that she didnt mind her song leaking because of the feedback she got before it's release so in a way she....also if people loved the song they would buy it on iTunes anyway....GaGa should have played it out how it should have been originally planned she should have just been like 'I'm glad you are loving the song...Don't forget to buy it etc etc'

But no we get it rushed onto us...now her promo schedule seems messed up...it is one big mess.

As if good songs only get #1s? Lol. Look at Roar for example, so badly written and the melody is complete rip off of Sara Barellies' song Brave and it's #1. That is an awful logic. Applause is a great song and has been well received, with no preorder and being OA/OS its still got a great chance to achieve better saleswise than its doing right now.

I think this might peak at #3 eventually, if it doesn't make it this week it might climb there after radio support and video play. I quite like it but it's far from her best.

If she waited for one week after it leaked in the UK I think it would have had a lot more hype and could have possibly gone to #1 officially.

I have to agree with marc.Like I said in the Lady Gaga forum, maybe I should write a horrendous song blow it into a microphone, leak it and I'll be number 1 on itunes even though I can't sing (Katy perry).

If people say Gaga isn't number one because its not a good song, have they heard Roar or Thrift Shop among other MILLIONS of bad songs that have got nr1!!!!

When will you manic gaga fans learn....People are not going GaGa for GaGa anymore...people just need to accept that...Im both a GaGa and Katy fan....why is this war that your 'mother monster' didnt want going ahead anyway....Katy is gunna get a #1 and GaGa looks like she is not.... GTFOI! Seriously all the fan waring....most from what i have seen around is coming from the GaGa side is really starting to put me off a lil and makes me hope Katy topples GaGa

Im not a lady gaga fan or katy perry fan. I will tell you honestly what i think of both songs.

Katy perry- her teenage dream era was perfect, roar sounds like it should be placed on that album, it is definetly not as strong as her previous singles (maybe on par with Part of me), its an decent song but not good enough to be her launch single.

Lady gaga- i actually liked born this way (album and song), applause does sound like a mix between the fame and born this way, but again its not as strong as her previous singles such as bad romance and poker face. It would make a good album track but as her comeback single? No way! It sounds very 2011 and very di fresh. However it is a solid pop song but many have too high hopes for her. She will prob chart at 4-5??

Which single will win the chart battle- KATY PERRY

However if gaga releases and outstanding video and promotes her bottom off she could do it, however katy perry alwayays makes amazing pop videos.

That's entirely subjective, everybody has a different idea what a good song is and isn't. Some people aren't going to take to 'Applause' and think it will miss #1, and other people (like me) really like Thrift Shop and am glad it got to #1. I'm a bit of a Lana loon but accept that she and her music is not to everybody's liking.
