Applause climbs to Number 5 on today’s Official Singles Chart sales flash after less than two days on sale, but still trails Ellie Goulding's Burn.

Lady Gaga’s new single, Applause, has broken into the Top 5 on today’s Official Singles Chart sales flash.

Applause was rush released on Tuesday (August 13) almost a week ahead of its intended released date after it leaked online over the weekend. Lady Gaga declared the leak a “pop music emergency” on her official Twitter account. It debuted at Number 11 on yesterday’s midweek Official Chart Update.

According to the latest Official Charts Company sales data, up to midnight last night, Applause has now sold 21,500 copies since going on sale on Tuesday at 5pm. However, Applause is still 55,000 copies behind midweek leader, Burn by Ellie Goulding, which sold 13,600 in the past 24 hours and looks set to become her first ever Number 1 single this weekend.

^^ So Ellie is on

1 Ellie Goulding 76,600

Plus 13,600 to yesterday's sales, so if Ellie is doing 11-13k per day, her total roughly 108-115k, or thereabouts.

5 Lady Gaga 21,500

Ellie should easily clear 100k by Sunday, I'm pleased Gaga is looking unlikely to get that number one, she would need to be selling about 20k a day to topple Ellie so I reckon it could miss the top 3 as she was on red on Kworb, can't wait to see tomorrows update it will make interesting reading!

Not surprised R&A are still number one though I was expecting Passenger to have got at least one week but White Lies were never going to do that well with so little airplay and even with Reading/Leeds I think they would have failed anyway

Midweek Charts update: Gaga's rush-released Applause going top five

Source: MW

by Paul Willams

Lady Gaga's Applause is heading for a top five UK debut on Sunday after online leaks forced it to come out early.

The Interscope/Polydor single was commercially released at the beginning of this week, a week earlier than intended following a series of internet leaks, and is now showing as a new entry at No 5 on the midweeks, according to the Official Charts Company.

However, the track's sales in the week so far are less than one-third of those of Polydor act Ellie Goulding's Burn, which is set to debut at No 1 this weekend, giving Goulding a first singles chart-topper.

In a busy week for big new singles releases, Burn and Applause, a teaser from Gaga's forthcoming third studio abum Artpop, is joined in the midweek Top 10 by brand new entries from Domino's Arctic Monkeys and Global Talent/Island's The Wanted. Arctic Monkeys' Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High is at 6 and The Wanted's We Own The Night at 7, while above them Avicii's Positiva/PRMD-issued Wake Me Up holds at 2, RCA act Miley Cyrus's We Can't Stop falls 1-3 and the Polydor single Summertime Madness by Lana Del Rey Vs Cedric Gervais holds at 4.

Britain's Got Talent finalists Richard & Adam are likely to continue to lead the artist albums market with their Sony debut The Impossible Dream in what is a very quiet time in the market, while Rudimental's Asylum/Atlantic title Home races 7-2 with sales up 90% on the week. White Lies' third Fiction album Big TV is showing up as a new entry at 3, while Imagine Dragons' Interscope/Polydor-issued NIght Visions drops 3-4 and Nettwerk act Passenger's All The Little Lights is down 4-5.

Rod Stewart is facing a close battle with Calvin Harris to retain his Capitol/Decca album Time's Top 10 status. Time spent its first 13 weeks locked inside the Top 10 and now holds at 10 in the midweeks, but with a lead over Harris's Columbia album 18 Months at 11 of fewer than 200 sales.

That's the Vaccines definitely out by Sunday then :( Arctics and The Wanted holding up better than expected though!

ooh we have 4 new entries inside the top 10, Lady Gaga is at #5, White Lies album at #3, no change at #1 though

I'm hoping there will be 5 by Sunday, Ray Foxx should just make it after its been top 10 since Tuesday

I think The Wanted and Arctic Monkeys will end up around 9 and 8 respectively and Ray just in at 10?!

Really hope Lanas multiple versions will help to keep her above Lady Gaga and have a third week at 4

Ellie's sales must be looking good for at least 110k hopefully

Glad to see The Wanted are still as high as #7. Fingers crossed they've done enough to remain Top 10 for Sunday's chart.

Yay for 'Bad Romance'! About time.

In a busy week for big new singles releases, Burn and Applause, a teaser from Gaga's forthcoming third studio abum Artpop, is joined in the midweek Top 10 by brand new entries from Domino's Arctic Monkeys and Global Talent/Island's The Wanted.

:arrr: Her album is not Artpop, it is ARTPOP. Get it right Paul Williams.

Hopefully she can stay in the top 5 and Ray Foxx climb to the top 10 by Sunday.

Ray Foxx should be in the top 10 by Sunday and The Wanted and AMs are safe, dont know why people thought the wanted would drop out they havent exactly dropped like a stone!
#5 is pretty much Gaga's position for Sunday sorted unless it starts falling even more drastically, I hope it can hang on to the top 5. It is really performing very similarly to Jessie's 'Wild' right now with that reaching #2 and peaking at #5, if it had a chart run similar to that of 'Wild' I don't think that would be that bad a result considering right now :(

Ah man, The Vaccines are looking to debut just outside the T40. They should still be proud though, the EP has three great tracks and they tried out a new - not as in your face - sound.
For anyone that hasn't notice on OCC

Bad Romance has passed a million

OMGGGG!

Where is Kath??? :cheer:

'Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance becomes one of the UK’s biggest selling singles of all-time.'

Well-deserved too!

At least that's some good news. I was playing Applause all day, then switched to Bad Romance just there and someone said as soon as it started, 'That song's more like GaGa!' :(
