Posted August 31, 201311 yr I have been checking artist total weeks for another thread, and one of the figures I don't agree with polyhex's total is that of Elton John. I have 14 weeks (12 weeks, a 2 week gap and then 2 more weeks), while Polyhex (and the Guinness/Virgin books have 16 straight weeks). Turns out this is due to differences relating to "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" in late 1973. The chart I have is only a Top 30, with the following week being a repeated Christmas week chart and then the Top 50 returning for the first week in January 1974, with a whole host of re-entries of what one would assume are most of the records that would have appeared from 31-50 on 22/12/73. Polyhex seems to have either a) an expanded chart of 50 positions or b) repeated most of the 31-50 positions for the shortened chart weeks. They can't have repeated everybody as Roy Wood, Golden Earring & Cozy Powell moved up into the top 30 from 31, 37 & 38 respectively replacing Eddie Kendricks, David Bowie & The Simon Park Orchestra, so the same will apply when adding up Bowie's chart weeks. Can anyone shed any light on this period of chart history? Have positions 31-50 been published anywhere? Has it become common practice to interpolate 31-50 for those two weeks?
