In the year that the much loved compilation series celebrates its 30th birthday, Now That’s What I Call Music! continues to dominate the albums market in the UK. According to Official Charts Company sales data, Now That’s What I Call Music! 85, the latest instalment of the hugely popular franchise, has sold an incredible 815,000 copies to date; it is not only the biggest selling compilation album of 2013 so far, it is also the biggest selling album of the year over all, with a lead of some 224,000 copies on the biggest selling artist album of 2013, Emeli Sande’s Our Version Of Events. Its predecessors Now! 84, Now! 83 and the 30th anniversary release, Now That’s What I Call 30 Years!, are also among the Top 5 biggest selling compilations of 2013 so far. Released in July of this year, Now 85 boasts 44 Official Singles Chart Top 40 hits including Number 1s from Daft Punk (Get Lucky FT Pharrell Williams and Nile Rodgers), Robin Thicke (Blurred Lines FT TI and Pharrell Williams), Naughty Boy (La La La FT Sam Smith) and Rudimental (Waiting All Night FT Ella Eyre). During its first week on sale, more than 317,000 copies of Now! 85 were purchased in the UK, making it the first summer-released Now! album to sell upwards of 300,000 copies in its opening week since 2008.
