October 18, 201311 yr Author From http://www.showbiz411.com/2013/10/17/bono-...r-mandela-movie Bono, U2 Write and Record New Song for “Mandela” Movie Bono and group U2 have written and recorded a new song for the Weinstein Company’s “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” movie. “Ordinary Love” will debut in a new trailer for “Mandela” this evening on Yahoo and various media. The trailer will also run before showings of “12 Years A Slave,” which debuts tomorrow around the country from Fox. Mandela, of course, was 27 years a prisoner. Bono and U2 have long been supporters and friends of Mandela. This also gives the movie a potential Best Song nomination. It’s not the first time Bono has teamed up with Harvey Weinstein. He recorded the title track for “Gangs of New York” a few years ago. U2 received an Oscar nomination in 2001 for “The Hands That Built America.” “Mandela” is directed by Justin Chadwick, and stars Idris Elba and Noemie Harris in Oscar-buzzed performances. The movie won cheers at the Toronto Film Festival and is scheduled for a holiday launch.

October 30, 201311 yr Author From http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/u2-...friday-20131030 U2 Ready Two New Songs for 'Back to Black Friday' Band will release 'Ordinary' and 'Breathe' on 10-inch vinyl By KORY GROW October 30, 2013 1:25 PM ET U2 will release two new songs, "Ordinary Love" and a new version of "Breathe," on 10-inch vinyl as part of Record Store Day's "Back to Black Friday" event on November 29th, according to Billboard. The cover of the 10-inch features a painting of Nelson Mandela because the group wrote and recorded "Ordinary Love" for the biopic Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, which is based on the South African president's autobiography and comes out the same day. "Breathe," which originally came out on U2's 2009 album No Line on the Horizon, is listed on the Record Store Day website as the "Mandela Version." The vinyl is limited to 10,000 copies. The band members befriended Mandela years ago and, according to their website, they were inspired to write the songs after seeing early cuts of the film. The movie stars Idris Elba (The Wire, Luther) and Naomie Harris (Skyfall, 28 Days Later . . .) and was directed by Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl). The song appears in the trailer for the film. "When I asked them to consider writing a song for Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, it was the fastest 'yes' I have ever received," producer Harvey Weinstein is quoted as saying on the band's website. "The band saw various cuts of the film over the summer and worked diligently to write a song that truly reflects Nelson Mandela. I think they did a brilliant job honoring the man and the leader they have known for over 20 years." U2 are also working on the follow-up to No Line on the Horizon. "I think it's a bit of a return to U2 of old, but with the maturity, if you like, of the U2 of the last 10 years," bassist Adam Clayton recently recently said. "It's a combination of those two things and it's a really interesting hybrid." He added, "We're in the studio. We're trying to get these 12 songs absolutely right and get them finished by the end of November, and then we can kind of enjoy Christmas."
December 3, 201311 yr U2 "Ordinary Love" Rolling Stone: star rating ***** U2's return starts like funky church–synth-choir hosanna and the gentle hammering of electric piano – and rolls with steady, compelling restraint. Bono fires a few bolts of falsetto in the chorus, and the Edge's terse guitar break suggests the ring of a wounded church bell. But "Ordinary Love" is about the seeds of dreams, and U2 play it perfectly: down-to-earth, while looking up. December 2, 2013 Rollingstone.com
December 6, 201311 yr Author From http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2013...on-mandela.html Published at 12:00 PM on December 6, 2013 BY ERIC GOSSETT Bono Pens Tribute Essay to Nelson Mandela Bono, a longtime civil rights activist and supporter of Nelson Mandela, has written a tribute for the former South African president in Time. “As an activist I have pretty much been doing what Nelson Mandela tells me since I was a teenager,” Bono writes. “He has been a forceful presence in my life going back to 1979, when U2 made its first anti-apartheid effort.” The U2 frontman went on to praise Mandela for his efforts to end Apartheid in South Africa, as well as his struggle to put an end to AIDS and poverty in Africa. Over the years, Bono and Mandela worked together on several nonprofit projects. Last week, U2 also released the first track “Ordinary Love,” off their new album for the upcoming Mandela biopic Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. Mandela died yesterday afternoon at the age of 95. December 6, 201311 yr Author From http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/u...rack-song-2653/ U2 to enter Christmas Number 1 race with Nelson Mandela soundtrack song 06/12/2013 U2 to enter Christmas Number 1 race with Nelson Mandela soundtrack song By Daniel Lane Ordinary Love, from the soundtrack to Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, sees overnight sales boost as fans pay tribute to late president of South Africa. Following the death of Nelson Mandela yesterday evening (Thursday, December 5) U2’s new single, Ordinary Love, has emerged as a contender for this year’s Christmas Number 1 as the British record buying public pay tribute to the late president of South Africa. The single is taken from the soundtrack to the film Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, which is based on Nelson Mandela’s 1994 autobiography of the same name, and stars Idris Elba and Naomie Harris. According to today’s Official Charts Company sales data, Ordinary Love is on course to enter the Official Singles Chart Top 75 this weekend. It is currently at Number 89 on today’s sales flash, and just over 3,000 copies away from a Top 40 placing. It is not unfeasible that Ordinary Love’s momentum will continue to grow in the run up to this year’s Christmas Number 1 race, which officially begins a week on Sunday (December 15).
January 9, 201411 yr U2′s Bono and The Edge The 2013 film Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom has been garnering a fair amount of awards buzz, and U2′s song “Ordinary Love,” written specifically for the film, has not gone unnoticed either. They’ve been nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Song. SnowbizNow talks to vocalist Bono and guitarist The Edge. Bono says that “when you’re writing music for a film you’re trying to connect to the emotions of the scene.” Of the particular scene that he wrote for, he says that “it could be quite a triumphant moment because he’s finally become president… we didn’t want to write a triumph; we wanted to bring it back to the relationship” between Mandela and wife Winnie. January 14, 201411 yr  tvus1H_lmQ8 Bono Makes Out With Amy Poehler, U2 Wins Golden Globe Award U2 won a trophy for Best Original Song last night at the Golden Globe Awards, but it’s unlikely that’s what lead singer Bono will remember when he looks back on the evening years later. That’s because the show’s co-host, comedian Amy Poehler, decided to spice up the night by making out with the perpetually sunglasses-adorned singer upon winning her first ever Golden Globe, for Best Actress in a Television Comedy Series for her work on ‘Parks and Recreation.’ In just another example of his charitable mindset, Bono gave Poehler a relaxing massage while the nominees were announced, despite the fact that his lovely wife was sitting right nearby. Upon hearing that she won, Poehler comically swapped spit with the rock star before going up to accept her award. U2 won their award for ‘Ordinary Love‘ from the movie ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,’ their first new song in over four years. They are expected to release a new album later this year. ultimateclassicrock.com
