Posted August 29, 200618 yr Just got this one today. http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProduct...1;-1&sku=538754 The Tube - Series 1 DVD £13.99 (HMV) Aug 2006 This double DVD set is a compilation of the best live performances from the first series of The Tube – the groundbreaking and anarchic Friday night music programme hosted by Jools Holland and Paula Yates. As well as featuring up-and-coming acts, The Tube also played host to a number of well-established groups giving live performances which, for the most part, have not been seen since their original transmission and have never been released in any format before now. The live spirit of the series (first broadcast on Bonfire Night 1982) is further underlined with the inclusion of live interviews and behind the scenes footage, as well as original linking sequences from Jools and Paula. This volume including sets from The Jam (in their last performance), Culture Club, Robert Palmer, Soft Cell, Iggy Pop, Depeche Mode, The Stranglers, Thin Lizzy, Madness, The Eurythmics and The Undertones.
August 30, 200618 yr the tube was sensational, although at the time i dont think we knew just how much a good thing it was. the early 80's were a time of inovation, there were new things happening all the time, it was exciting especially for young people as there was so many opportunities to express ourselves. the poor buggers today have nothing new, just re-gurgitated stuff of what we had, be it music, fashion, comedy. 1982 was a good time to be alive if you were young :)
August 30, 200618 yr I agree the music scene between 1979-1984 was brilliant, compared to today's music scene, although the Brit-Pop movement of the mid 1990s was great.
August 30, 200618 yr The tube aired the bands that didn't always fit on TOTP, bands who wern't high in the current charts and they usually showed the first plys of new videos. Great music show

September 2, 200618 yr it's great that, finally, this DVD has been re-released after being sold for £50+ on eBay recently after it was deleted. Hmm, I'm betting the people who bought it for £50 quid are feeling rather stupid now....
September 3, 200618 yr the tube was sensational, although at the time i dont think we knew just how much a good thing it was. the early 80's were a time of inovation, there were new things happening all the time, it was exciting especially for young people as there was so many opportunities to express ourselves. the poor buggers today have nothing new, just re-gurgitated stuff of what we had, be it music, fashion, comedy. 1982 was a good time to be alive if you were young :) well, at least until you left school and tried to get a job that is! The downside was 3 million unemployed and quite a lot of bleakness. Which, of course, encouraged a lot of people to form bands as an escape from the humdrum of reality of a life on the dole... The strangest thing about that time, was one of the biggest songs to make the charts which was about being on the dole was "Wham Rap" by Wham! George Michael wrote it just after he had filled in a form for Supplementary Benefit, a forerunner to Job Seekers Allowance...
September 6, 200618 yr 1982 was a great year for music... Yazoo, Soft Cell, Bauhaus, Siouxsie, Depeche Mode, Roxy Music, Japan.....
