Cool. I am enjoying this round - perhaps because I didn't enter.

AnthonyT: It's not being an ass, you might be right, as I don't know about the others. I'm definitely one "who don't really bother too much with it apart from during Unknown Pleasures", but this is my third UP, I sent in 3 totally different entries (nope, not "electronic/dance songs with a female vocalist"). My entries do poorly, they always will, but if there's only 1 person who likes them, I'm fine with it. On the other hand, I always find 1-2-3 songs that I get to like (sometimes these are "electronic/dance songs with a female vocalist" :P ). Athough I started UP-ing to find something 'indie' (for me, indie is what I call indie, I'm not good at genres and stuff), I gave up this idea, as usually 3-5 out of 30 entries are what I call 'indie', and I'm lucky if I like one of them.

I must admit after listening through I found this quite a strong edition overall. I don't think they're all THAT similar? The genre of electronic may be a common one throughout, but there's different styles of it to balance it out so it all doesn't sound too samey.

so what exactly IS I/A/S? I take it to mean anything that's not Rock (in the modern sense of the word), Dance, or Pop. A bit leftfield, a bit non-mainstream. I enter a wide variety os differing styles and ages of music to the various comps, and I'm happy if someone likes it, but I do note that 2014 seems to be almost entirely EDM-based in the comps, certainly the winners. Not saying it's a bad thing, just that when something dominates to that extent there's going to be a backlash against it by the next gen of kids, or at least they'll pervert it a bit and give it a new fancy name. Stating the bleedin' obvious there of course...

I think the instrumentals could do well, but I still think it is Seinabo Sey's to lose.

It just seems to give off "winner" vibes to me. It sounds like something that could get consistant points, rather then a few big points then nothing else.

The Juan Maclean - Feel Like Movin' and マクロスMACROSS 82-99 - Want Me (with Soul Bells) are seriously unsuitable in this forum.

Well, if you want this to DIE then yeah I guess it's a good idea to ban all genres but a few.

I listen to a lot of Macross and while 'Want Me' is quite pop-sounding almost all of their songs definitely belong in this forum. Juan Maclean is an electronic/house musician, so I'm not sure where else he'd belong. Besides, different genres have been represented in this contest since its conception and that's one of the best things about this. You always stumble upon something you'd never think you'd like, and I'd rather it stay that way then the genre police dictating what gets sent. I'm certainly not against themed editions, just as long as the "this doesn't belong here, please leave" thing doesn't become a rule.
