How I compile my charts:

With a few exceptions, I don't go out of my way to seek out new songs - I usually wait until I hear them on the radio. I mainly listen to Radio 1 and for this reason, most (though not all) songs in my chart are those which are played on Radio 1. I don't usually add a song to my chart until it's started gaining some airplay.

Songs generally tend to climb gradually as they grow on me, peak and then fall fast, so the chart looks similar to an 80's/90's singles chart. I also usually get bored of a song within a few weeks, so songs don't generally tend to hang around the chart for more than a few weeks - typically around 9 or 10 weeks for a Number 1.

This week's chart commentary:

* So my Christmas #1 this year goes to Little Mix with what is their first ever #1 single on this chart, 'Little Me'.

* Meanwhile Avicii climbs to claim his second #2 hit of the year with 'Hey Brother'; interestingly, Avicii was Christmas #1 on this chart two years ago with 'Levels'!

* With Sam Bailey climbing into the Top 10 at #7 with 'Skyscraper', this makes it 6 years in a row that the X Factor winners single has made the Top 10; the last five peaked at 4, 3, 8, 10 and 5 for James Arthur, Little Mix, Matt Cardle, Joe McElderry and Alexandra Burke respectively.

* The highest new entry of the week goes to Katy B with 'Crying For No Reason', which looks like it could be the first big hit of 2014 on this chart!
