January 7, 201411 yr I'd love Scott to do it but I still think it's more likely he'll leave the station altogether in the next couple of years. See what you're saying about Chris, but he was ridiculously popular. They are clearly all about making the chart show appeal to the youth now. But the current format is so ridiculous how they rattle through the 40-11.. yet it still doesn't flow very well or sound like a chart show. Listen to how they did it in the late 80s/early 90s with quick snappy links in-between the songs over an audio bed. Now she either speaks over the song or over dead air and just says something like "I love this band so so much". and then drag out the top 10. Why is it necessary to start with number 10 at 6 o'clock anyway? And as for Jameela. I like her a presenter but she's annoying on the chart show. I like her more than Reggie but she's actually managed to dumb the show down even more than he did. I actually miss JK & Joel now. They don't seem so bad in hindsight! Of course Mark Goodier is still the king. I still listen to his (and Bruno's) old shows and his way is the way to do it. I started listening to the Top 40 back in 1999 when Mark Goodier presented it. I was gutted when he left. I didn't mind Wes Butters, the chart sounded fresher, they used to do the Top 20 albums at the start of the show, but that used to end up in them missing out tracks in the Top 40. I wasn't too fussed on the format with JK and Joel as they used to spend the first half hour of the show waffling, look at the album chart Top 20, then do a 15 minute retro mix inviting the listeners to guess the year, then at 5:15 they would start the Top 40. Numbers 40-21 were rushed with them only playing the New Entries, then playing the Top 20 in full. I didn't listen at all when Ferne and Reggie took over, started listening again when Ferne went to daytime and Reggie went solo. I prefer Jameela over Reggie. I can actually listen to the chart now, but if I wasn't posting on Buzzjack chartshow thread at the same time, I probably wouldn't bother.
January 7, 201411 yr As someone who doesn't listen to the chart every week these days, I must say that's definitely not because of Jameela, in fact I make an effort to catch it when I can partly because of her. She strikes a good balance between being incredibly into it (and giving off a good 'one of us' vibe, at no point have I felt like she's disinterested in what she's talking about) and making it fun and lighthearted. The content of the show besides the music is a little rubbish but that's hardly her fault, and it's just padding, I think she's been doing a great job presenting up to now.
January 7, 201411 yr I am pretty indifferent to Jameela as a presenter but I don't enjoy listening to the chart any more! It's almost like the presenters or the producers don't really care about the actual chart, the number of mistakes that occur happen far too often and I think Radio 1 are trying to focus too hard on getting a younger listener that it feels like the shows being 'dumbed down' but that might just be me. But anythings better compared to the Reggie Yates era...
January 12, 201411 yr Author So by these votes, it has been an improvement the change of presenter, but it still could be better. unless any other votes 22 (56.4%) for yes, & 17 (43.6%) for no.
January 12, 201411 yr she has done a decent job... bad points below. -the constant overuse of 'sure' -she blabs a lot -im not really sure that she knows muh about music -i listen to bigtop40 so she has turned me off in general i do listen to the midweek update though, even though its a pain for following itunes chart and the official one with jameela. overall nothing special and she is a bit 'same old same old' week in week out to be honest.
January 12, 201411 yr Preferred Reggie much more. That said, she's not a terrible presenter and I still enjoy the chart show.
January 12, 201411 yr I don't like her as a presenter. She is pretty dull and boring. Bring back Scott Mills!!
