Posted August 30, 200618 yr With the debate raging on about where to site the UK's first super Casino various cities are trying to win the battle. London,Cardiff,Glasgow,Sheffield,Newcastle,Blackpool and Manchester are all in the frame. There is no doubt jobs will be created, but with gambling causing serious financial problems for those hooked and their families, is this what we really need. With online gambling at the touch of a mouseclick, the National Lottery, horseracing etc etc do we really need this or are there much more fundamental issues facing the country. Or do you think its a great idea and mega casinos are just what we need.
August 30, 200618 yr Gambling is repugnant and immoral and I am totally against these casino's, they will encourage family break ups, bankruptcies, people spending beyond their means and so on
August 30, 200618 yr im not fussed either way.... people with adictive traits will get their fix wether theres a mega casino or not..
August 30, 200618 yr I think that gambling culture is fast becoming a rather large problem in UK, and I seriously dont think that this is gonna help matters at all, just make it a hell of a lot worse. Blackpool seems to be the place that's most likely to become a sort of UK version of Las Vegas.. Frankly, I find that prospect about as welcome as finding a turd in a box of chocolate doughnuts..... I dont believe in a "Nanny State", but there surely has to come a point when you draw a line and say - "enough".....
August 30, 200618 yr im not fussed either way.... people with adictive traits will get their fix wether theres a mega casino or not.. The state should not encourage it though as more often than not its the state that has to pick up the tab in the countless divorces, bankruptcies and so on Casinos are different to online etc because people get lured by flashing lights and the mistaken belief they will hit the jackpot on the slots
August 30, 200618 yr Gambling is repugnant and immoral and I am totally against these casino's, they will encourage family break ups, bankruptcies, people spending beyond their means and so on I can agree with what you say dude, but for me, it's just the sheer fukkin' pointlessness of it all.... The house always wins in the end, you can go on about 'systems' and 'form' till the cows come home.... When was the last time you saw a skint bookie or casino owner....? Plenty of skint punters though.....
August 30, 200618 yr people get lured by flashing lights and the mistaken belief they will hit the jackpot on the slots Absolutely correct, look at the 'glamour' and 'glitz' associated with Las Vegas as an example.....

Plenty of skint punters though..... yeah absolutely that's why I don't gamble, I never bother with the lottery for instance unless its a double rollover in which case I buy 1 ticket out of curiosity With gambling though in casinos it seems to attract those that can afford it the least, every piece of news footage of the slots seems to show row after row of old ladies with white hair and a fag drooping out of their mouth gawping aimlessly at a fruit machine thinking they are going to win millions, the same people that can't pay their heating bills in the winter etc, casinos attract the poor more than anything and I think the government needs to show some social responsibility and not build these abominations
August 30, 200618 yr I buy a lottery ticket on Saturdays and that's the limit of my gambling. Personally, I think gambling is a mugs game and you hear about people who are in dreadful debt because of it so I certainly don't believe Britain needs a Super Casino.

August 30, 200618 yr Personally I wouldn't go near a casino, but not all people are the same, it's about being responsible, or end up with the consequences of your actions.
August 31, 200618 yr Says the person who bet on Big Brother :o I didn't ;) I made a handful of calls to get someone evicted
August 31, 200618 yr I think the government needs to show some social responsibility and not build these abominations That's a rather forlorn hope mate... "Social Responsibility" and the average Politician would seem to be total strangers given the utter shower that we have in the Houses of Parliament these days.....
August 31, 200618 yr I didn't ;) I made a handful of calls to get someone evicted ah yes, sorry. I remember now.
August 31, 200618 yr i dont think there is anything wrong with gambling as long as you win!!! :D The only people who win long term at gambling are bookmakers and casino owners
August 31, 200618 yr i dont think there is anything wrong with gambling as long as you win!!! :D In a way isn't it better to lose. The problem with a win is that you think your going to keep winning. And unless you have a major real edge and great management of your risk, then your going to end up with end on your face. I think those that get most of of gambling are those they know they are going to lose, they place a bet as entertainment, something like paying to go to the movie. If you lose you lose and that's part of the financial exchange for your entertainment.
