Yeah that's what I thought too, the comments and explanations seem to contradict each other.

Doesn't matter really though, does it? As long as she delivers and wins the NF, plus they find a decent similar performer, the song is still winning.

I really can't see 'Saule Riet' winning, but at least Latvia would probably qualify for the first time since 2008! I'd see it finishing mid-table if it did qualify but it definitely wouldn't go top 5 and probably not top 10 in my opinion.

Why on earth would something as standout as that 'definitely' not be going top five? It may well miss it, but that's the exact kind of thing you can't at all rule out.

I could even see it not qualifying it what is likely to be by far the most difficult semi-final based on the countries in there, but of course we don't really have any idea yet until more songs are selected. I just don't get a top 5 feeling from it at all.

Well the first comments were posted on ESC Forum and I thought they may be of interest to you all seeing as you all like this song so much.

 

It was a "definite not top 5" remark actually but obviously there's nothing definite about anything yet, so I should have said probably. But anyway it's just a feeling I get from listening to this song - I like it and I think I can see its appeal but I just can't imagine it doing as well as you are all predicting even if we don't have many songs yet to compare it with.

omg Hora Din Moldova isn't even BEGINNING to match the levels of this song, as much as I LOVE Nelly. It's 2014 meets folk and they hook up for 3 minutes and have beautiful Eurovision babies. One child is named Riga 2015 and the other one is Eurovision 2014 Trophy.

 

Eurovision is literally MADE for this type of shit.

'saule riet' is essentially DEFINING the sort the start of the year for me :( failure to make the finals will actually devastate me i suspect. i caught the other acts

Saule riet sounds like such an obvious smash it's unreal! I'm inexplicably loving it too, hopefully Latvia do choose it but I try not to get myself invested in the Eastern European NF songs too much because like Tyron's said you just can't bank on them making the right choice a lot of the time :drama:

I keep listening to this to see what all the fuss is about and it is. Not. Clicking. It just leaves me a bit perplexed.

Are you only listening, or have you seen the performance? If it's just the former then that's understandable.

I've heard it with and without. I can see some appeal but not in such huge amounts. :(

The studio version is pretty wondrous! Took me quite a few listens of the both live and studio to fully get it but it was worth it.

 

The performance still really quite fun though, will be quite the highlight on the stage if it does win. If nothing else it'll be great to see the Latvian language return to the contest in such a glorious way.
