March 2, 201411 yr Bono loves U2, Dickie http://i59.tinypic.com/ypd9u.jpg U2 rocker Bono and Notting Hill producer Richard Curtis were in high spirits when they stopped by the Royal Hibernian Academy to take a glimpse at Richard Mosse's striking exhibition The Enclave. Artist Richard, who is the son of potter Nicholas Mosse, was "delighted" the two gents found time to call by; let's not forget the U2 frontman is taking to the stage at the 86th Academy Awards tomorrow night to sing his heart out. "I was thrilled they visited," Mosse said. "I'm a big fan of both of their work, so it's wonderful to be recognised by people you admire." The Enclave – which was the 2013 Irish entry for the Venice Arts Biennial – is packed with fuchsia-filled photos of The Congo. "I think the exhibition hits you in the stomach," Mosse said. "The sound, the colour. People have an idea of what it's like over; I wanted to show how beautiful The Congo can be." Both Bono and Curtis, who recently retired from directing schmaltzy rom-coms, were big fans of the exhibition and 'ummed' and 'ahhed' at different pieces before bidding Richard adieu. The exhibition is currently doing the rounds; it opened at New York's Jack Shainman Gallery this month and the Arts Council are bringing it to that shining city of culture – Limerick come March 28.If it's good enough for Bono and Dickie, it's good enough for us. March 2, 201411 yr Glenda lands Xposé Exclusive with Bono http://i61.tinypic.com/2lkqp3a.jpg In an exclusive for TV3, Xposé presenter Glenda Gilson gets up close and personal with U2 frontman Bono ahead of this year’s 86th Academy Awards. Bono was more than happy to take time out from his busy schedule to chat to Glenda about being nominated for an Academy Award and U2’s impending performance at this year’s Oscars ceremony. U2’s “Ordinary Love” from the film Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom has beennominated by the Academy for ‘Best Original Song’, and although it is an unlikely winner, according to Bono, his main concern is doing the song justice by “connecting” on the night. Speaking to Glenda from the Sunset Marquis Hotel in West Hollywood, Bono said: “The Mandela film was very present around the world. In the United States, it [the film] didn’t have such a strong presence so I don’t know, but it’s just great to play it. Our job is to make these songs famous so being in front of a billion people or whatever, that’s really what it’s about, and I’m going to be very proud to sing the song. We really believe in the song.” “People don’t know this but from going back in our teenage years in Dublin, the anti-apartheid thing was really big in Dublin and we did our first anti-apartheid benefit, I think we were about eighteen/nineteen years old, so we’ve been working for Mandela for a long time, so it means a great deal to us. “But you know in the middle of all this schmaltz and Tinseltown glory, can we find it in ourselves to give a true performance? That’s really the question I’m asking. Can we connect? If we can connect then I feel there’s a reason to be there.” http://i61.tinypic.com/2yxq1jp.jpg Bono also revealed to Glenda that he’s been hanging out with fellow nominee, English actor and comedian Steve Coogan who he describes as “Irish in every other way”. Bono said: “I’ve been meeting him; I met him at the Golden Globes at the Palm Springs Festival so I’m getting to know Steve. I was a big fan of Steve Coogan for years and years, so it’s great when you meet someone and they’re not actually an ass, they’re even better than you imagined.” And when Glenda mentioned our very own Michael Fassbender, who is this year nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for his role in 12 Years a Slave, Bono said: “I got a chance to hang out with him [Michael Fassbender] also and he is fantastic. He is someone that you or I would love to bump into if you were out of an evening. He’s just great fun.” Glenda also spoke to Bono about his daughter Eve and her success as an up and coming actress. Proud dad Bono told Glenda about a new TV series that she will star in and also revealed how he was recently bypassed for an autograph: “Eve is flying. She’s got a TV series on HBO coming up with Steven Soderbergh directing. It was shot in New York. It’s a turn of the century thing set in New York, I think in 1920. “I was out with her in some restaurant the other day and somebody came up and asked me for an autograph, at least I thought, and I said “yeah”, and he just reached over to Eve. It was a great moment, really cool.” Ordinary Love is up against Let It Go from the Disney film Frozen, Pharrell Williams’ Happy from Despicable Me 2, The Moon Song by Karen O and Spike Jonze and Alone Not Yet Alone from the film of the same name, for Best Original Song at this year’s Oscars. xpose.ie

March 9, 201411 yr U2’s Bono Wants Europe-wide Campaign for Spain At the European People’s Party Congress in Dublin the venue was packed with some of the most powerful people in Europe. But the politicians weren´t the stars of the show... U2´S Bono was invited to speak at the event and outshone famous faces of EU politics including Germany´s Angela Merkel and Spain´s Mariano Rajoy, delivering a speech that was the most applauded of the day. The Irish U2 front-man spoke about a range of issues, from capitalism and the European Union, Ireland’s bailout and racism against Roma and Africans, to EU leaders Merkel and Rajoy, who were seated in the audience. And he also talked about Spain. Bono argued that Europe still has a lot to do before it can fully put the crisis behind it, not only in economic terms, but also in terms of its unity. “You’ve got Prime Minister Rajoy just this week urging the EU to make structural reforms that will create liquidity in the Spanish economy.” he said. “Maybe you will. But beyond that, where is the family’s response?” he asked, after comparing the EU to a family in which everyone should help each other. “Where is our Europe-wide campaign to spotlight Spain, to encourage others to take their holidays there, to buy Spanish goods, listen to Spanish music?” The question surprised the Spanish delegation, who were already applauding the speech. Spain´s Prime Minister Rajoy, though, did not seem so thrilled. He only applauded at the end, after the longest speech of the day was over. Bono´s speech wasn´t all serious though - the singer added some jokes between his political messages, including one about Spain: “Perhaps U2 should make a flamenco album [to support Spain],” he said. “Well, maybe not.” Euroweeklynews.com

March 16, 201411 yr U2 feared to be splitting, but 'Bono doesn't want to go out with a whimper' ROCK legends U2 are feared to be on the verge of quitting after 38 years in the music business. http://i58.tinypic.com/nmgrpk.jpg Their recent singles Ordinary Love and Invisible flopped on both sides of the Atlantic. Now music insiders say plans to release an album this year and stage a world tour have been “indefinitely delayed”. Thousands of fans have been expressing their anger online and many are urging the band to “go out with dignity” like R.E.M. in 2011. Even an official forum on u2.com is filled with comments blasting the band over “broken promises” about the follow-up to 2009’s No Line On The Horizon. “There are very strong rumours they are ready to pack it in after one last hurrah” A music industry insider, If an album is released in 2015 it will be the longest gap ever between U2 albums. Now the group could choose to go out with a bang and make their next tour a dramatic farewell, packed with greatest hits instead of new material. A music industry insider told the Daily Star Sunday: “The pressure is really on Bono and the band. At this point there’s every chance the next tour will be the last. “They simply aren’t selling anywhere near the same amount of records that they used to and the singles have performed awfully in the charts. Bono doesn’t want to go out with a whimper. “There are very strong rumours they are ready to pack it in after one last hurrah.” U2’s label Universal was planning to start pre-selling a new album this month but that has been put on hold. The Irish band’s apparent nosedive in popularity has come as a shock as their last concerts on the 360° Tour were the most profitable ever, raking in more than £450million. Our source added: “They never wanted to be the kind of band who just toured over and over again without new material. “Bono would rather pack it in if it got to that stage. “At the earliest they will hit the road at the end of this year and after that it’s hard to see how they could carry on. “Bono is always getting offers to go solo and write his own album. That’s looking like a very likely option in the coming years.” Earlier this year Bono admitted the band were living in fear of becoming irrelevant. He said: “We were trying to figure out why would anyone want another U2 album? “And then we said ‘Why would we want one?’ There was some unfinished business. “We felt like we were on the verge of irrelevance a lot in our lives.” dailystar.uk
March 17, 201411 yr This round is on Bono... U2 star crashes stag in sunny Dingle  http://i57.tinypic.com/6prnnn.jpg http://i61.tinypic.com/6f8oxl.jpg http://i59.tinypic.com/16gltuv.jpg Bono joined stag Matthew Kennedy and his friends for an afternoon pint in the seaside town of Dingle, the party-goers hardly able to believe their eyes when the rock star joined them. (Photo: Matthew Kennedy) Nothing beats having Bono as an impromptu guest at your stag weekend. The U2 gang might not have picked up an Oscar Stateside recently but that didn’t affect their star status in Kerry on Saturday. Bono joined stag Matthew Kennedy and his friends for an afternoon pint in the seaside town of Dingle, the party-goers hardly able to believe their eyes when the rock star joined them. A pint of the black stuff in hand, Bono sat with the party and chatted to them as his wife Ali Hewson socialised with friends. The 53-year-old singer was at the wedding of a close friend– and then dropped in to local watering hole Dick Mack's for a few pints. Bono was joined by a wedding party of around 130 people, but it was soon crashed by locals as news of his impromptu visit spread. Manager of the pub Finn McDonnell said Bono sat in a snug at one end of the bar with his wife Ali and a group of four friends, and ordered four rounds of Guinness. Mr McDonnell said: "They went into the local church at around 2pm, and came back out around an hour-and-a-half later. I didn't cop him coming into the pub at all. "Bono went into the snug at the end of the bar, leaned over and said: 'How are you getting on?'. That's when I copped it was him." Mr McDonnell revealed that a customer at the bar purchased a round of tequila shots for the group during their visit – but that the spirits were left behind when the group departed almost two hours later. Owner of the Dingle Record Shop Mazz O'Flaherty told the Irish Independent that when she heard Bono was in town, she grabbed a copy of U2's album 'Pop' and went to the pub to ask for an autograph. Ms O'Flaherty said: "I went into the bar and asked him to sign the CD. He told me he'd come over to the record shop in a few minutes, which he did." The group later retired to the popular luxury wedding destination Ballintaggart House, where they stayed overnight and yesterday enjoyed a barbecue. Irish Independent
