I thought 2008 had quite a few standout performances! Dima and his ice skater, Ani's light box show, Harlot's bizarre blue, black and white setup, Maria's classy vocal, Sebastien's golf buggy (Divine was so ahead of its time, in a post Get Lucky world, you have to assume it would be a top ten contender now), and Laka's general eccentricity!

I'm hoping that the uk's odds go up a bit once all the songs are out and molly releases the music video which hopefully has a reworking of the song so that it's better than its current state. In a year that is so dull if an average pop song from Romania/Hungary/Armenia or a bland song from Russia or Azerbaijan win over Molly's entry I'll be annoyed!

I don't think any of norways potential songs deserve to win either and I really like sanna but I'd like a Scandi win break this year.

You're right, I'm not saying 'Day After Day' is the only performance I remember. I too remember the performances from the likes of Dima, Ani, Kalomira, Sebastien and Laka but Elnur & Samir is another one I can clearly remember, that's all! :kink:

Jumping of the band-wagon here saying GO NORWAY Carl Espen for victory!!

amazing song, but hardly a winning song...?

:P

I really don't see where the Sognu comparisons are coming from for Silent Storm, other than that they're both favourites. The two songs aren't a thing alike - and performance-wise Silent Storm fits the song far more than it did for Sognu. Popera isn't a genre that has form at all for success in Eurovision. Stark ballads at least do - just look at Kuula, and Silent Storm is about ten times the song that was.

And on conspiracy theories, I've never thought the EBU has ever really tried to influence the winner. Plus, in terms of cost we've seen moves towards that anyway - why do you think they went for a 15k capacity show in Malmo rather than a 65k capacity one in Friends Arena. And on the EBU's actions regarding Azerbaijan - yeah right. There's not much an organisation can do if there's systematic bribing amongst the juries other than attempt easily subverted transparency, and the televotes aren't exactly difficult to rig either if a country has enough will and cash to stump up for 500 SIM cards.

Just noticed when scouring Oddschecker that Armenia to win is currently in the 'Most Popular Bets' bit for the whole site, their odds slashed as low as 5/2 now.

well i hope they are wrong. It seem a lot of the comments on how great the song is on eurovision.tv and youtube are made by new accounts commenting them same kinda thing. I wonder if the armenian team are doing it to try and convince everybody else that the song is amazing haha

The Armenian song is fantastic, it took me a couple of listens to fully appreciate it but it is definitely one of my favourites. I can see why it's a favourite, but it still doesn't quite feel like a winner to me.

I do think it's a grower but i find the first half very boring - the 'dubstep' 2nd half is pretty good but it's not a song i could see myself ever loving and wanting to win. I want sirusho back haha

I love the way the production builds throughout the song and the dubstep influence at the end is a brilliant finish like you say. If it was between this or 'Silent Storm' for the win, I'd definitely prefer Aram Mp3!

Hmm yep I think I'd agree with you there as silent storm is not my cup of tea at all. But I'd prefer neither to win ;p
Armenia favourite to win and the uk down to 9th place - really surprised that it is being ranked so lowly.

Armenia are now Evens in some odds, I understand why it is a favourite but I'm surprised their odds are as short as this! :o
I'd be surprised if Armenia won. It's a good song and top 10 seems certain but it doesn't scream winner. Especially the sort of winner to be at evens at this stage in the odds.

I honestly think this will be another 2011 style year with really inaccurate odds.

By which I mean, Malta at 66/1 is a total steal!

Let's not have another Azerbaijan/Armenia drama for at least a few more years okay. Everyone, don't vote for Armenia~

I totally agree about Malta, very high odds for an entry that, in my opinion, has a outside chance of winning!

Bizarre odds all round this year, but I guess that's down to the fact that no song screams 'winner'. I have no idea why Armenia are supposedly the strong favourite. Strong song but it wouldn't make for a memorable winner. The only songs that I could imagine as possible winners are Norway, Sweden, UK, Hungary, Malta, Denmark, Azerbaijan and Armenia. And I REALLY hope that Azerbaijan don't slip through a win with that song somehow. At this moment in time I'd be inclined to say it'll be Norway vs. Malta but I'm crossing everything for Molly and Sanna.

Armenia isn't standing out for me true, but neither are Malta. Besides offering up another super feel-good entry I don't think their song is strong enough to put on a huge winner performance, it took me until last week with the WW1 video for me to even like it. They are all among my favourites so at this early stage I'm probably just blinded by that but Norway, Sweden and the UK seem to be the only ones I'm looking at as winners, and if Carl doesn't work on his live skills he's probably out for the title.

This openness is EXCITING at least.

Just read through the Eurovision 2011 Odds thread. With the top 4 favourites being like: France, UK, Estonia and Ireland and with Norway dubbed a 'certain qualifier' by Tirren (if only :(). A fun read knowing what we now know.
